  2. Tell grandma to hurry up! I've seen them at Target, but I couldn't promise they still have them.
  3. Being discussed at length here.
  4. The Brewers couldn't have predicted Gallardo's injury. If he's still healthy, we're not exploring this move IMO. We're probably just going after Maddux/Wolf instead.
  5. All the proof you need of this is the salary that will be added if we don't unload a contract to Cleveland. $4.5 mil is not chump change and if we add Maddux that would be up to another $5 mil.
  6. I'm fine with trading LaPorta and Salome... they are both replaceable by other guys in the system. You can fit Gamel, Escobar and Green on the diamond at the same time, but LaPorta is limited to the corner OF and 1B (where Gamel can also play) and Salome has Lucroy and soon Lawrie hot on his tail. I would not trade Jeffress.
  7. If they wanted both LaPorta and Escobar/Salome, I'd demand Rafael Perez in return also. He might be just as good as Fuentes, and he would be under our control for another three or four years. Edit: Now that I think about it, LaPorta/Salome/Pena for Sabathia/Perez works for me.
  8. If Escobar gets traded - which I doubt he will - I would fully expect to see Hardy get an extension in the offseason. Man, I'm getting pretty excited. I have a feeling this will be going down soon.
  9. But it just did happen. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif We'll get over this.
  10. I said before the start of the road trip that I'd be thrilled with a 5-5 record. I'm still thrilled. We shouldn't have won last night, we shouldn't have lost today. And we highlighted the need for another arm in the bullpen. I'm not really that bummed a lot... losses like this happen because baseball is a really weird game.
  11. The only thing I wouldn't have done that Ned did is play the infield in, but that probably wouldn't have made a whole lot of difference.
  12. It should also be noted that the difference between Parra and Bush or McClung over a 3-4 start swing is negligible statistically. An athlete is more developed physicall at 25/26 than they are at 21/22, which was the case with Gallardo. Parra missed a lot of 2004, 2005 and 2006... he pitched under 100 innings in each of those seasons and had major shoulder surgery in 2005. I would really rather they not press the health issue with him for the long term health of his arm. A few starts here for risking many starts later = no thank you. Sure he's more physically developed, but his shoulder has a history of being in much worse shape.
  13. How do you know this? They pulled Gallardo out of the rotation last year. Like I said, they need Parra for 4-5 years after this one, not just the rest of this year. And we also want him to be available for the playoffs, so 175 regular season innings could lead to even more innings in the postseason.
  14. Absolutely not. Parra has never pitched more than 139 innings in a year, with 132 last year. That means his innings cap should be around 165 this year, and he's already over pace for that. And I'd like him around for the playoffs, too. And maybe... the future? Dude has a special arm, and a long history of arm problems. We need to do everything possible to have him around for at least the next 4 years, not just the rest of this season. His age has nothing to do with it, his arm history does.
  15. I would place Parra after Sheets so that if and when Sabathia/Bedard/etc is acquired, that pitcher can replace Parra in the rotation to keep his innings down. Then, when Parra comes back into the rotation in 3 or 4 weeks, he can replace Bush or McClung.
  16. "Neither" is in fact not the correct answer to an odds scenario involving two options. I like Nelson better because he's shown the ability to hit for average, power and draw walks at points in his career, though they haven't always been the same point. He's also left-handed and has success and in AAA, unlike Errecart on both accounts. So I'd place a bet on Nelson.
  17. Drew is going to get beaned tomorrow, for sure.
  18. Cracker Jack has slipped behind cotton candy as a favorite stadium food? Blasphemy.
  19. Hardy is about a middle of the road defender, a little below average overall due to his lack of range. Hardy is about a middle of the road offensive player, a little above when he's on. I think that puts him about in the middle.
  20. Brantley certainly should have gotten more playing time in the outfield the past few season because he's not really the instinctive outfielder that Gwynn is. Brantley's arm is what it is, which limits him to CF or LF and his range makes him more of a LF, IMO. And even if Brantley can wind up playing a passable CF, I'm tired of our major league defense being just passable. I'd rather have a good defender in CF long term and I think there are much better options in the organization for that task than Brantley.
  21. Green was drafted as a 2B, and he's good at the position. Edit: I should also add that most of the difference in their career OBPs (Green .379, Brantley .401) is due to batting average (Green .293, Brantley .311). Green gets on base in ways other than hits virtually as well as Brantley, and it's hard to argue with a .293 career average, especially after his first year when he was hurt. And I'd put the odds of Green sticking at 3B as greater than the odds of Brantley sticking in CF, FWIW.
