  1. BP's playoff odds bother me... the Brewers jumped 9% after last night's win. Did we really improve our odds from 1 in 5 to nearly 1 in 3 by beating the Blue Jays while a few teams ahead of us lost?
  2. Is almost never a good way to start a post.
  3. http://planetrobot.net/caplog/b2EGraphics/2007/07-05/Update_DoNotWant.jpg
  4. Yah, and while you're at it, just move to Pennsylvania. Just kidding. Or am I?
  5. Voltron, The Later Years.
  6. Then why not post in a less harsh and exaggerated manner?
  7. There's also been at least one comment on this board (WITH LITTLE/NO ACCESS TO THE SPORTSWRITING COMMUNITY) comparing the journalistic merit of taking on the Brewers to... what was it... a fat, uncoordinated school-aged child. In other words, everyone has their moments of questionable hyperbole.
  8. I'll go even farther. I bet anyone on this message board could manage any of the 30 clubs to at least 40 wins. And I bet Seth McClung could manage the Brewers to about 65-70 wins easy. So if McClung ever becomes a marginal big league manager, I'll give 100% credit to Yost on that one.
  9. That just made my day. Santo is probably my favorite Brewer farmhand of all time due to his 2006 pitching campaign. 16 innings pitched, 47 walks allowed. Oh yes. Go Santo!
  10. Bush is what he is, so there's not much sense in throwing out another pitcher to tag team with him. When the Brewers get someone better than Bush, they'll just replace him. I wouldn't object to the idea of piggybacking Parra and Villanueva for awhile to keep Manny's innings down, however.
  11. Unless Prince can find most of the 160 points of OPS he's lost from last year, my guess is that it would take Fielder and Parra to even get the Giants listening about Lincecum.
  12. With McClung? They're both already in the rotation.
  13. Since McClung is arbitration eligible for a few more years, they don't really need to lock him up. And I would hope they'd at least wait until the end of the season before thinking about a deal that extends him at all. If he finishes the year with a starting ERA around 4.00 (or better), I could see them offering a 3 year/15 mil type deal. But it has only been five starts.
  14. He mixes everything live, and has a lot more music to sort through than with records because of a computer's storage capacity. I'd say his job may be more difficult than a turntable guy because of that. Not to mention, Gillis usually sets up in a place where the crowd is all around him. So he not only has to mix live, he has to mix live within a few feet/inches of his fans. I'm just surprised he doesn't use an Apple.
  15. LF, CF, RF, 3B, SS, 2B and the pitching staff.
  16. DiFelice just struck out the side on 11 pitches.
  17. So you'd rather play them while they were healthy? That doesn't really jive with your lust for opponent injuries.
  18. I didn't say you were. I specifically mentioned the Cubs in both possibilities. Now, would you rather play them hot or see them mangled?
  19. So would you rather: a)See the Brewers play the Cubs in the playoffs, assuming the Cubs are the hottest team in baseball at the time; or, b)Find out all the Cubs suffered broken legs right before the playoffs were to begin. The two seem very contradictory to me.
  20. I suppose there's something to be said for doing things that old fashioned way, but then there's Phil Cuzzi.
  21. As a person who loves to talk sports and recall its history, I wouldn't look at it that way. Can you honestly say that beating the Phillies in a series would be exactly the same as beating the Cubs Yes. And I even like to talk sports and recall its history. The same reason I'd rather have more challenging tasks at work rather than easy ones. Getting in to and participating in the playoffs is a big enough challenge. There is challenging yourself, and there is pushing your luck. Easier team please. If the Brewers win the World Series this year and happen to beat the Cubs in the divisional round, in the future no one will be saying: "Remember that year when we beat the Cubs in the divisional round?????"
  22. All playoff victories count the same. I care about the Brewers. I don't really care who we beat en route to where we're going. The Cubs are just another team. And I don't know why you'd want to play a hot team over a struggling team. Should the Brewers try to prove something and request to play a team of All-Stars each game? Of course not. I'll take the easier team over the tougher team 100 times out of 100. About the only reason I give more than a second thought to the Cubs over say the Astros or Pirates is they're in close proximity and easy to make fun of.
  23. That is a shocker. One of my favorite journalists, a genuinely intelligent reporter. He'll be missed.
