    It would take a fairly significant pace, even by Prince's standards, to hit 40 HR by the end of the year. At this point I'd be thrilled with 35.

    The only way to judge this is how belligerent they became later. How about a Vodka gimlet?

    The Stars go up against another top pitching prospect tonight in Carolina (Florida)'s Chris Volstad. Chris Errecart not in the lineup as Freddy Parejo gets a start in CF. Callix Crabbe not in the lineup against New Orleans.

    I have no issues with how hard Fielder plays on the field, and that's what counts to me right now. I'd like to see him in Milwaukee long term, but realistically we don't necessarily need him, even if his agent wasn't Scott Boras. LaPorta and Gamel could both play first base long term. I have no doubt that Fielder will play 100% til the day he leaves. Is he miffed he's not getting more money? Sure... but wouldn't you be too if you just hit 50 jacks in the big leagues and were getting paid about half a million dollars for it?

    My only thought after reading this is... Somewhere Randy Choate is crying and cursing the name of Matt LaPorta. (Choate broke his finger on LaPorta's helmet.)

    Because they'd have to put him on the 40-man roster.

    No, it's more the second part of what I said. He probably would declare free agency and try again with a team that needed someone like him.

    Any player brought up to the major leagues must be placed on the 40-man roster. Branyan is out of options and would have to clear waivers to be sent back down, and he could also declare free agency if he cleared waivers.

    I tend to think he'll be dealt after next season. That would give the receiving team 2 years to work out a long term deal, and give us a higher return than if we waited until after '10. I don't think we'll deal him this offseason because we can still afford him and I don't think there'd be too much difference in the guys we'd get back 3 years out from FA vs 2 years out from FA. As for the trade proposal, it's a good starting point... I just don't think SF would trade both of those guys in that deal. Maybe if you upped the offer to Fielder, Hardy and Bush. I also wouldn't include Parra because I don't like the idea of trading a young pitcher for different young pitching.

    No, they're not. "By giving Braun a seven-year extension beyond this year, the Brewers would buy out Braun's first year of free agency... The new deal is an extension of the $455,000 salary Braun was given for this season back in spring training. I'm guessing it has to be worth around $45 million or so."

    I bought a really good ticket to this afternoon's game, like front row behind home plate good, as a reward to myself for some stuff. I woke up this morning, all jacked up to drive from St. Paul to Milwaukee, and then I realized it felt like my tonsils were about the size of beach balls and were also on fire.
