  1. f we fail tonight, we need to win the next three... but i say we win tonight and then 2 out of three... That's why we need to win tonight. Fun time is over... this team needs to start winning series, and win them often.
  2. Am I more worried about Nix-Gross-Bell in the 8th or Rivera-?-Hart in the 9th?
  3. It's actually kind of strange that any team is weak in first basemen - it being the easiest to switch to, most teams have at least a guy or two who have failed at other positions but can hit alright. The Brewers, on the other hand have a somewhat-failed farmboy (Nelson) and a few guys who are many years away (Alonso, Errecart and Palencia). Katin and Anderson could be first basemen, but they need to play outfield just to maintain some good value. I would say the biggest weakness in the system is with first basemen, but the biggest weakness relative to the big league team is definately at catcher. And I tend to rate 2Bmen lower than other guys because they aren't nearly as valuable defensively. If Iribarren could play short, he'd be in the top 5 and Holmberg would be in the top 20.
  4. I actually think it's quite the opposite. In my view, they look at too many pitches and get themselves down in the count and have to go at it with 2 strikes on them. Last time I looked (and this was a while ago), the Brewers, as a team, took a lot of pitches. While I'd rather have them take too many pitches, in the end, I'd rather have them taking the *right* pitches as opposed to just taking to take or swinging to swing. This is a young team getting younger on offense, and if most of them figure it out on offense in the next year, it could be really good.
  5. Pretty bad night for Corey Hart so far. Well, I'd rather see Corey fail than Brady or Geoff fail. Edit: Wait, I sound like a long-suffering Brewer fan.
  6. I really want the Brewers to win this game... any kind of streak could set this team on fire enough to get into the heat of the division/wild card race. http://g-images.amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/37/98/c10892c008a042072136b010._AA240_.L.jpg Milwaukee Brewers: Set Yourself On Fire
  7. Getting into the enemy's bullpen in the 3rd inning of the 1st game of a 4 game set = wonderful.
  8. True, but he's a HS draftee, so still nearly the youngest position player on the roster, so I don't think that's a valid complaint. The Helena roster is made up almost totally of college kids this year. My point was that most good prospects (especially hitters) don't repeat rookie ball. What worries me is that Chapman sure had the chance to make the WV club this spring, but didn't. He also didn't make an impression when he was assigned there into the season a bit. Nate Yoho beat him out for a roster spot. Caufield has two years and change on him, and Chapman still has an edge to the tune of 100 OPS points, so I don't see them as a close comparison. The comparison is that both were moved out of CF because someone else stepped in. My point is, that's not a good sign.
  9. i guess my ony complaint at this point is that brendan katin should be higher...he dominated Brevard and made it to AA his first full season...he's on pace to hit AAA mid year next year if he continues to hit...he's a top 20 prospect.. Katin strikes out a bunch... he's like a more powerful/less contacty version of Drew Anderson. Until he hits AA pitching well, I'm not going to bump him into the next tier of prospects.
  10. My question is why Cain is 13 spots above Gamel Cain has better tools across the board and really hasn't gone into a prolonged slump at the plate or in the field all year. Can't say the same for Gamel, whom I really like, but needs some consistency. Gamel has the talent to be a top-15 guy, he's just not there yet.
  11. Put it on the board!
  12. toby, quit posting here and finish the power50! I'm going to wait another 40 minutes now just to spite you.
  13. Jesse Harper with another scoreless inning for the AZL Crew. He sure would be a nice guy to have around AAA next year. I think he might be a free agent, so I hope the Brewers get him under contract for 2007. Will Inman has pitched 97 innings this year and allowed: 64 hits 23 walks 0 home runs 14 (!) earned runs. He's struck out 115 guys and actually has started more games (18) than allowed runs to score (15). Wow.
  14. I'm not arguing he's top ten or anything...but 54? He's in his third year of rookie ball, repeating in Helena. His strike zone management is going in the wrong direction (possibly from trying to drive the ball more). He also really doesn't have one particular tool that stands out, and he's been pushed out of center field a couple times. His hitting tools don't really project at a corner OF spot, which is why he (and similarily, Chuckie Caufield) needs to either refine his bat or refine his defense (or both) before he moves up. I think next year will be a big test for Chapman - he's going to have to make the A-ball team, and from the looks of it, be one of the guys that carries the offense there. I understand what you're saying - kid has a lot of potential - but I'm just not quite as sure of him as other guys. Also, there's a fair degree of ambiguity between 35-60. Arguments could be made for almost any of those guys being anywhere else.
  15. Here's 51-60: 51. Mitch Stetter, LHP 52. Ken Holmberg, 2B 53. Callix Crabbe, 2B 54. Steve Chapman, CF 55. Jon Alonso, 1B 56. Julien Cordero, LHP 57. Rafael Lluberes, LHP 58. Amaury Rivas, RHP 59. Sam Narron, LHP 60. Wily Peralta, RHP Edit: I'll also say that the top 10 is comprised of 6 pitchers, 2 infielders and 2 outfielders.
  16. Gwynn goes yard two nights in a row. No power you say? Yes. 2 HR in 2 nights, or even 5 HR in 5 nights would help his career minor league ISO of <.090. Kid doesn't have any loft in his swing. He's never gonna hit more than a few HR in the bigs in any season, even if he gets 500 PA. He's just a power liability. Of course they had to point out that Drew Anderson was the lone starter who didn't get a hit, but he did get an RBI. Anderson might become an alright hitter, but he doesn't hit for any power, and that won't translate into any regular time in the bigs at LF/RF/1B. He needs more power, or he'll never stick without a lot of luck. And will somebody please talk to Brewers brass and find out what the heck Joe Thatcher is still doing in A+ ball? I don't know either.
  17. Actually a pretty cool list pogokat. I feel for Toby at this time with all of us "experts" second guessing his list. Hey, my intestinal fortitude has been stong since the beginning. I just respect that I made the statement about the the top 3, and pogo was like "yah, that's it." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Thank you, your not going to drop Yo after his start tonight? The top 3 will be: 1. Gallardo 2. Braun 3. Inman I don't think there'll be much debate about those three. The next Power 50 will be sometime in mid-September or early October. After that... sometime in December.
  19. Pretty sure you meant pro pitchers his age (19 last June). There's that Clemens guy you know, and oh yeah, Julio Franco, who could pitch if he wanted to. Semantics! Tho, I could mention that I might not be too far off, given the number of young guys signed and released over the course of baseball history. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. It's about that time. It should be up sometime around 7 or 8 or so.
  21. Joe Thatcher is apparently the greatest pitcher who ever lived Thatch, if you're reading this, Brian Shouse won't hang around forever, and the Brewers have been historically deficient in the lefty specialist catagory. Do your job, and the job will be yours.
  22. And Mark James (Baby Brewer) with the best night of his pro career. Obviously, we have no idea if something was tweaked or worked on since his last appearance, but frankly young Mark has never had a night close to this. I hope it is a stepping stone to bigger things... he's gonna have to make the Helena squad next year to continue to have a good chance. Mark has a great pitching body, but like many Canadiens, hasn't had to the chance to exploit his natural potential. On a similar note, the phenom Alex Periard has had a number of good appearances in a row. Almost wouldn't surprise me to see him in West Virginia next spring. Alex has a very, very good arm and has more pro pitching experience than 99.9% of other pro pitchers. Edit: Mike James' first name is Mark.
  23. I heart Joe Thatcher. Kid's gonna pitch in the bigs some day.
  24. Don't hold your breath though, we DO have David Bell manning 3rd everyday for us now, you know. I've had less of a problem with the guy since I've seen him play with the Crew. He's NOT someone you'd build around, but would be a nice, complimentary part. He plays the game harder than just about everyone (with a mean streak that this team lacks), is a very, very nice defender, and is someone I think you'd generally want on your side. I know that sounds like fluff to stat-heads, but for the right price I'd bring him back next year. A Koskie/Bell platoon would actually be pretty nice, allowing Hall to roam the OF a little more whilst splitting time wherever. If Bell would sign for around $4 mil for the next 2 years, I'd consider it.
