I disagree. Inman and Salome would be very close to what you need to give up to get Buerhle. I feel Inman has as much upside as Gallardo. Your also right about Mench. There is no reason to DFA him. Yet. Come the trade deadline he might be looking for a job. Someone please explain why any team in MLB would want Kevin Mench even if we paid his entire salary? Unless your team is having a win a truck contest if your head is bigger than Kevin Mench's promotion he has no value. A team is better off bringing up a youngster that has a chance. No playoff bound team is going to want him. He demonstrated a bad attitude that went public in Spring Training. His best bet is likely Japan next year. Maybe if he mashes over there for a couple of years he could make his way back.
Don't want to touch this guy at any price. He's virtually untradable anyways. No one would pay his value as a player because of his domestic and other issues and Tampa won't give him away unless they decide to just cut bait and absorb the loss. I think we are still aways from that though.
That's my concern too. If you leave a guy like Inman at a level where he is dominating as much as he currently is you risk him getting bored and getting shelled because of a lack of concentration and just taking things for granted. I'm not suggesting Inman isn't concentrating or anything but is he really being challenged at this point? It's to the point where if you don't move him soon you could start to stump his development.
I think we need to see Rogers pitch post surgery before he can go back on the list. As for Jeffress he needs to get to and out of Helena before he even becomes a prospect in my mind. Not that I don't think he has talent it's just that is a pick I wish we could do over at this point. He has been less than impressive to date.
While you might be right about moving Jenkins I'd only do it after we had already acquired an allstar type outfield bat and then I'd move him to the AL. The two most likely Brewers to be traded are Hart and Mench. Only Mench because we want to. Hart because that is likely what it would take to get the all star bat. While we have too many outfielders I think we could still upgrade. It might mean moving Hall back to 3rd and making him a super Utility guy again once Braun is up. Then all we need is one more bullpen arm. I just am not comfortable with the outfield as is if we make the playoffs.
While it's not the greatest article am I the only one that is beginning to think Rolen might just about be done. There are several players on St. Louis that are close to being done. They got the most out of them last year. With the whole Hancock situation that team is just about to start mailing it in now.
I know the no-sayers will say what's the rush but Yo needs to get the call. He's dominating AAA. Lincecum is dominating Houston tonight. Ya he's down 1-0 but look at the K's. That could be Yo. There is no doubt in my mind that he is ready for the majors. It's Yo time.
Adding as many top quality releivers as possible is a good idea. I don't want to meet the Braves bullpen in the playoffs. Soriano, Gonzales and Wickman make for one solid closer. Who says you only need one.
With Glaus going down tonight I would think the Jays will just pack it in. What team could survive that amount of injuries. And who is going to want to give up anything for a guy who went AWOL less than a month ago? Not likely anyone. Capellan may have some value over the winter if he can keep his nose in joint the remainder of the year and start to dominate in AAA.
I don't mean the whole system just that it wouldn't surprise me if we are the guys trading for an allstar type player and parting with a high profile prospect in return. I don't want to see the system depleted either but wouldn't lose any sleep if we got the final piece and lost a Gallardo or Braun in the process. I actually wouldn't mind one of those guys beating us regulary in the future if we won a world series now.
With the way things are going with the Brewers and at every level the only way someone is going to get promoted is through injury or at the cost of some of the depth players jobs. That being said if the Brewers keep it up I would imagine for the first time in memory several of our high profile prospects might not be Brewers for long. I don't think anyone is untouchable including Yo and Braun for the right type of player if we think we can make a run at it.
A change of scenery for both guys will likely do no harm. Seriously if we got to the point where we needed Closser to contribute we were done anyways. A trade would have happened prior to a guy hitting .188 getting the call. Vinny or Rivera would have gotten the call first. Lou might have even gotten the call before him.
You got to wonder what will happen if he gets the ERA back under 2. I mean how do you leave him in the minors at that point? Someone might have to develop a sore shoulder or something on the big league staff just for a spot start to see how he does.
Brad is the type of guy who still has some value. We've been talking about him so long on this board we forget he is still relatively young. If the Brewers remain playing the way they are and I'm an opposing GM I ask for him to be thrown in as essentially an extra guy if we are buying knowing Doug would do it.
I can't see Capellan being the first one called up after his antics. Shows a lot of immaturity and we are trying to win now not develop players at the big league level. He needs a good year at AAA and a September call up if he's deserving.
I guess he was serious about retiring. Let him rot. Doug needs to set an example so that other players don't try it. Take him off the market. It's not like he has any value now anyway. I would hope if any other Brewer prospects have the same agent they fire him. Not good advise.
Really no point in even speculating. The Brewers will live and die with Ben. He won't be traded even if we are out of it early and we don't think we can re-sign him. He is Mr. Brewer.
