  1. Unless they want to pay the whole contract and take a mediocre type prospect back it doesn't make sense. Chicago would never do that within the NL better yet the division. I think he is done. His arm is basically chopped liver.
  2. Darn there goes the one guy you could blame for all the teams problems even when he wasn't pitching. Best of luck to him in his future ventures.
  3. Yep. Simply because I think it would be easier to re-trade Jones for value than to try and trade Jenkins for anything else now. Geoff has just downgraded his trade value by publicly spouting off. If we don't trade him he likely becomes a disgruntled player at which point we trade him for nothing just to get rid of him. He just showed his true colours and what he thinks of the team. A guy with any character would have walked into Doug's office and spouted off or had his agent do it for him. Then the media doesn't find out. This just shows his lack of class.
  4. Bell may be the only answer left unless we can make a trade. Concussions are a funny thing and I hope Koskie can bounce back. Signing Bell to a one year deal is not a bad thing as if Braun or Koskie come back later in the year we can likely still get a prospect for him then.
  5. The problem is Boston wouldn't want one of the players involved. Actually come to think of it neither would the majority of any other major league teams. All the players we have offered are either overpaid or coming off of poor years, or old.
  6. Taking the Brewer Bias out of it I'm not sure who you take first if you have a choice between Hughes, Gallardo, and Bailey at this time. We could argue all day on which one has more upside and no one would be wrong.
  7. There is no way a 3 way deal works in this case as the only relevant number to consider is salary. I believe he has 6 years and roughly 90 million left on his deal. No one takes him unless half or so is paid by the Rockies. That leaves only a handful of teams to even consider him. I doubt he is moved for another couple of years when the salary numbers are more reasonable. The Rockies are the one's anxious to move him here, not the other way around. He needs to have a bounce back year this year to get other teams interested.
  8. Please don't remind me of Homer "Cy Young"Bailey anymore. There is no comparison between him and Rogers. Bottom line our scouting staff screwed up when they took Rogers. The saving grace is we got Yo Gallardo in the 2nd round and there isn't much difference between him and Bailey. They will both dominate in the majors for the next 15 + years barring injuries.
  9. ZachJack, Inman and a guy like Hammond would likely get it done. Not sure what Cordero's contract status is but if you could tie him up for 3 more years it would be worth it. If it's less than 3 years we'd need to be in the thick of the pennant race at the deadline to do it. Then if Turnbow can turn it around we would suddenly have a very good bullpen.
  10. Geoff Jenkins is Wes Helms. If you can keep him on the bench and only play him when injuries are happening and pinch hit him selectively he could be a very useful player like Helms was in Florida last year. Watch Helm's numbers drop this year now that he is full time. At Jenkins current salary who is going to want him? Maybe at the trade deadline if we are out of it someone who can afford the salary for the rest of the year trades for him to pinch hit. Otherwise we pay most of his salary so he can be the 24th or 25th guy somewhere and get a washed up player in return or a high risk prospect.
  11. Great trade if we could make it but we aren't going to get anything of value for Jenkins. There is no way that the Nationals give up Wagner for Jenkins even if we pay most of the salary.
  12. Typical example of million dollar talent and a 10 cent head. Guys like this seldom make it for long and often end up dead young or in jail. Wouldn't touch him if he's released. He's a multiple time offender who obviously just doesn't get it.
  13. The who cares what we give up I want to win now camp is bang on the money. That is the attitude of a winner and what most fans want to see. That being said I think we are one maybe 2 years too early to do that. You can still be stupid about it. If trade deadline time we are in the playoffs and the odds look good to make it Doug had better be dialing Atlanta and offering up Braun and Villaneuva or some combination of talent like that for Jones or a similar move or he should be canned. You only get the chance to win once in a while and if we could win or go deep into the playoffs the majority of the fans and owner won't care if we gave up two future allstars. The problem as Brewer fans is we all have the wait until next year attitude. If we didn't we wouldn't be Brewer fans. There comes a time you need to pull out all your punches to get it done or at least go down swinging and having your fans know you gave it everything you had as a front office. We are finally getting close to that time.
  14. I wouldn't touch the deal at all as we would be giving way too much up and I can't see Lidge being too happy that he is suddenly a set up man or Cordero if it goes the other way and then all you have is a disgruntled bullpen. Turnbow to his credit, took the demotion with class and acknowledgement that he wasn't pitching well last year. That being said if we could pry Ensberg away I would be all for it. I think he will rebound nicely this year. I am getting the feeling that Koskie may be done. Nothing concrete to base this on just a bad feeling based on the press reports to date.
  15. I wish him well in his recovery. But just out of curiousity when was the last time a top pitching prospect of ours had a major arm surgery like this and then pitched effictively for "THE BREWERS" after recovery? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head.
  16. All I'm saying is that we have the depth to move Gwynn. I think he is going to develop into a solid major leaguer in a year or two. However I'd rather have more pitching depth and I think we could pry a pretty decent pitching prospect from Florida for him.
  17. The guy to trade to the Marlins is Gwynn. Name recognition, young and fast. Right up the Marlins alley. Brady has more experience and would make a great depth player for us this year. He's also a scrappy player who I love to watch. I would bet we would be able to pry one of their good young pitchers out of the minors for him. You can never have enough pitching and let's be honest. Where exactly is Gwynn going to play? Hall, Gross and Hart should become fixtures for the next several years and I'd love to keep a guy like Clark to be the 4th outfielder.
  18. I don't know why but I just have a gut feeling that Dillard is going to surprise us and make the team. In what role I don't know but I think we'll see a fair bit of him this year shuttling back and forth between AAA.
  19. Foofty. That's a nice way to put it and about sums up my thoughts. It seemed like everytime last year that I was listening to a game and Jenkins came up to bat in a situation like you describe I just got up to go get a snack or something as in my head it was automatic out. Most of the time my head was right. I really don't care if he's only 32. He's a bench player now and will be out of the league within 2 more years. I used to like the guy but Gross is a much better option at this point and Mench hasn't stunk up the joint long enough yet to run out of town.
  20. Jenkins is too streaky plain and simple. Obviously he has a lot of loyal fans which I will never fault. We all start to cheer for guys and then fail to see when they have reached the end thinking there is still another year or two in the tank. But when he's only making 7 million a year and any trading partner is insisting we pick up part of the salary it should tell you something. He's very close to being done. I would imagine if he does go to San Diego he will lose some playing time to Cruz eventually. Also if he doesn't go and San Diego decide to go with Sledge and Cruz it has to make you wonder if we'd be just better off DFA him and moving on. The last thing we need is a disgruntled veteran outfielder in camp when it becomes obvious he is battling for the 6th outfielder position.
  21. If we didn't have to pick up any of the salary a bag of balls would be a great return for Jenkins. Mench is worth more as he is still seen as a player with potential by many teams. I would think we would get a pretty good prospect or bullpen arm for him.
  22. That might be the first time I've ever seen Jenkins described as a leader. I'd suggest the opposite. Jenkins is the last thing the Marlins would want, a bad influence, on a group of young up and coming outfielders. If he's not happy being a part time player here how do you think he'd feel in Florida playing behind a bunch of kids with even less experience than our group as a whole. As well Florida would never go for a guy like Sheets. Sheets has missed too much time the past couple of years for a team like Florida to take a chance on him. They simply couldn't afford to have a guy like Sheets go down. We are best to keep him now and into the future.
  23. I only consider this if it's the year 2010. We really are starting to get the basis of a team that could win a championship in 2-3 years or at the very least should seriously contend. Give Prince, Ricky Braun, JJ, Hart, Yo and Villaneuva a couple of years to develop and get more comfortable in their roles and watch out. Seriously name a team with more exciting top level prospects and young players that are actually developing and becoming more than just prospects.
  24. Call it ridiculous but the new going rate for a #3-4 pitcher is 10 million a year. I would guess 39 million for 4 years is the absolute lowest we can go if we want to land Marquis. It will likely take more than that.
  25. Dukes and Milledge have both been labelled problem's and cancer in the clubhouse. Both amazing talents but not at the stage yet where you can take a chance on them and sit them down the first day laying out the ground rules with a one strike your out rule. They'd just bark back now. Besides if they are as cancerous as they say they are you can likely get them both for nothing in 2-3 years tops.
