  1. If Gagne doesn't turn it around in the next month he could be the first 10 million dollar DFA in the history of the Brewers. Who would trade for him even if we paid his entire salary right now?
  2. I think Gallardo and Lincecum are a fare comparison. No San Fran isn't competing now but then neither are the Brewers. The Brewers never traded Sheets in 03 and the Giants would be dumb to trade Lincecum now. Sorry but without Yo we don't have the pitching depth to win this year. We can still be a favourite for next year but that means signing Sheets or replacing him with similar calibre pitcher. We don't have the pitching depth and don't have anything coming from the minors anytime soon that is realistically going to help in the pitching department. Bush needs to go and hopefully one of Parra and Villanuava will turn into a decent starter. Without Sheets that only leaves us with 3 viable pitchers for next year. When I mean Viable I mean playoff hopes.
  3. Would anyone out there trade Gallardo (even injured) for Henry Sosa, Tim Alderson, Nate Schierholtz, and Angel Villanola ( I think I spelt his name wrong) Feel Fee to substitute San Fran Prospects. Bottom line is it would never happen. Players get traded for prospects all the time but not when the team still controls them for the forseable future (Lincecum). That almost never happens unless the player being traded is a problem (Elijah Dukes).
  4. San Francisco is not going to trade their best player anytime soon for prospects no matter how much upside they have. Not sure where these rumours started but they need to be put to bed. The asking price before Gallardo went down for the year would have been Gallardo. There is no other match even close on this team. The guy is a stud and they control him for several more years.
  5. Good luck to him. All hustle and gave it all he had every time on the field.
  6. Not trying to start any controversy but no one claimed him. It just goes to show he is overated on this site. Hopefully he can go down and work things out and come back later in the year. Turnbow is still here only because of his contract. I also guarantee someone would claim Mclung. Parra and Villaneuva are better pitchers. Really wasn't that hard a decision.
  7. Let's hope he continues to hit like this. It will make it hard for the Brewers to leave him in the minors if he keeps this up for another month or two. I'd love to see him recalled for the interleague games and never go back. Mike Cameron would be a great 4th outfielder.
  8. Loved BJ Surhoff and whatever happened to him? Hated mr one flap down Jeffrey Leonard.
  9. Not as funny as you think. Different sport but the Winnipeg Jets traded Kris Draper to Detroit for $1 when he was still trying to establish himself. He's won several Stanley Cups since and is still an integral part of the team. With that being said I don't see the same for Helms but if Florida goes back to playing him once or twice a week and letting him pinch hit he could still have some value.
  10. Bush is what he is. A .500 type pitcher who every team has. He's a great #5 type pitcher. They can't all be stars and I'm sure that is what he'll be by the end of the year on this team if not a long releiver. Don't expect the world from him as your not going to get it.
  11. I think comparing him to Jeffress is fair. Jeffress's drug issue shows a large mental lapse. Maybe it's not the same type of lapse as De La Rosa's but what's the difference? Either you got it or you don't and neither of them seem to have it. They have the raw talent but don't know how to use it and put it together.
  12. Wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in independant baseball shortly. Although I'm sure some major league organization will sign him for there AAA team. Lots of talent here but not the mental makeup to succeed at the major league level. Kind of reminds me of Jeffress except without the drugs.
  13. That would have been a steal for us if the Giants picked up most of Roberts contract. Not sure how you could possibly criticize this deal from a Brewers standpoint. What exactly were we giving up? We would have gotten 2 minor leaguers to boot and Roberts can still run. He could win games off the bench as a pinch runner. The key would have been how much of the contract San Fran were picking up.
  14. Hopefully Doug can beat this and get back later in the year. Good luck to him and his family.
  15. I live in Winnipeg Canada home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes the number one independant franchise in baseball for getting players back into affiliated ball over the years and we are always near the top for attendance. Each independant league works differently in regards to the number of veterans etc. Notables to sign out of the Northern League and go onto MLB careers include Jeff Zimmerman in Texas, Bobby Madritsh in Seattle who both had career ending injuries, Chris Coste came out of Fargo and George Sherril who was signed by Seattle out of Winnipeg almost as an afterthought when half the teams in MLB where in town fighting to sign Madritsch.
  16. It's not going to matter from a Brewer perspective as Crabbe is going to make the Padres. We won't be getting him back.
  17. There are lots better options for Patterson out there. I think he must be pretty much done as well. Why would Washington release him otherwise. They have the worst rotation in baseball and released him. That says something in itself. I don't see him as a better option than Vargas or Bush at this point either. Capuano possibly depending on what his injury turns out to actually be.
  18. Weeks is the question mark for this team this year. It's make it or break for him. If he excells we are right to hold onto him. If he bombs, which he has the potential too, we will be trading him for a prospect or two later this year or next before he has no value left. He is one of those guys you can't trade because he has the tools to be an allstar but it really remains to be seen whether he can do it or not. I sure hope he can. One or two months is not a large enough sample size to say he is there.
  19. I couldn't care less if a veteran has an 11 or 21 ERA in spring training. it has no relevance. If they are working on pitches that's great. What I like to see if a solid last start spring training prior to the start of the season where they work at least 5 innings. Prior to that the numbers don't mean much for a veteran. They treat spring training differently than someone trying to make the team.
  20. We are now officially one injury away from having to trade prospects for a Capuano/Vargas type pitcher. This is why you should never be in a hurry to move your depth pitching. Anything can and usually does happen.
  21. This team could prove to be the ultimate challenge for any GM. It's going to take at least 5 years of good drafting, proper signings, etc to even be close to competing again. Lincecum is a nice building block to start with. It will be interesting to see who has a better career. Lincecum or Gallardo. I think they will both turn into all stars and put up amazing careers.
  22. Teams are still busy evaluating their own talent and hoping that a young guy will step up and fill one of the starting positions available. There are lots of teams with needs in the pitching department. I'm pretty sure Bush, Capuano, and Vargas will all be inquired about. I would expect the talks to get serious towards the end of next week and that they may drag into the start of the season as Parra and Villaneuva could be sent down for a month and Gallardo is likely to start on the DL. There is no rush to move any of them. We are an injury away from wanting to acquire someone similar. If the right move is there it will be made. It's also not a bad idea to start Parra off in AAA. He will contribute this year but with his injury past the slower we move him along the better. No point in wrecking him for a few April starts when it's August and September that we are really going to need him.
  23. Every day that goes by makes this look like a good solid trade from the Brewers standpoint. We didn't give up any blue chippers to make a run for it. What we gave up was 3 solid prospects which many on this board myself included had ranked higher than they really are in reality. In reality the Padres will be lucky if one of them has an impact at the major league level. I don't mean play a few games but play a full year and stick around. Being ranked in the top 10 on any team is no slouch. But you do have to give to get.
  24. Not that I don't believe the coach but something doesn't smell right to me here. We find out often what these guys test positive for. They come clean and try to move on. Jeffress was in instructional league why wasn't Salome? What the coach is saying makes no sense when you stop and think about it. Why would he be working out locally around where he grew up rather than instructional league or playing winter ball? Why would the Brewers endorse doing that? No offense to the coach but why would the Brewers want him working out without their instruction? I'm afraid we are likely going to find out there is a lot more to this story down the road. I hope I'm wrong but it wouldn't surprise me if Salome doesn't play next year.
