  1. Good response to yesterday’s game. Bats showed up. Decent group pitching effort. Gives a shot for a series win on Sunday.
  2. Hiura playing in the shifted infield on the left side of second base challenges his throwing ability.
  3. Should’ve had at least three that inning. But the offense did show up.
  4. So who had Arcia in the betting pool for the first two hits of the season?
  5. I'll take a guess at a few of them: C - Gabby Hartnett 2B - Ryne Sandberg LF - Billy Williams
  6. I live on the east coast and had the exact same reaction. Ugh. Was so excited for that series Add another East Coast based fan with that same negative reaction. Trips to DC and Philadelphia are fine; I usually make it to one of those visits each season. But it's almost like MLB doesn't want the Brewers to play in Baltimore.
  7. If Richmond builds a new stadium complex, I could definitely see that as a desired promotion to AAA for the Washington Nationals in the upcoming affiliate reshuffle. They could have affiliates within a 2-3 hour drive of DC: AAA - Richmond, VA; AA - Harrisburg, PA; A - Fredericksburg, VA. Each of them would have ballparks built or recently renovated, with Harrisburg being the oldest, having undergone renovation in 2009. I'd be curious if the Brewers might try to tie in with either Wichita or Omaha. With Wichita moving into a new stadium, the Royals could think about breaking their long-standing association with Omaha. If so, that could open up Omaha for the Brewers, which would be a decent location in the current AAA footprint. That's assuming there isn't a radical reshuffling of lower league cities (e.g. Midwest League locations) to the AAA level.
  8. Must be the “new normal”: Spielberg summer blockbusters in a repeat form.
  9. Finally saw it this past weekend. Fully agree with you, Reilly. I really enjoyed the movie. It's a bit of a modern twist and a partial sendup of the classic whodunits. I've seen references to a potential followup/sequel. I'll be curious to see how well that might go.
  10. Would guess that also. Get a TE that's needed.
  11. I guess that a heavy two-headed rushing attack with Jones and Dillon might be the offensive plan in 2020. Maybe moving toward a shift away from the Rodgers throwing ~35+ times a game?
  12. Figures. Baltimore seems to always have good linebackers. Makes me jealous when watching them compared to what the Packers frequently put on the field at LB.
  13. Interesting tidbit in an article about Brock Holt talking to Travis Shaw before deciding to sign with the Brewers: Seeing positive statements about the organization from former players is a good sign. A couple good quotes from Stearns and Counsell are also in the article. http://madcitysportszone.com/2020/02/19/how-travis-shaw-helped-brock-holt-decide-on-milwaukee/
  14. Between Holt and Suter, there will be plenty of improvisational musical talent in the dugout for long games or rain delays. Stearns has put together a very versatile roster for 2020. I'm leaning more toward optimism that the end result will be good enough to compete. But we shall see.

  16. Found another short journal article about evaluating baseball players’ performances after hamate injuries and surgeries: https://handsurgerypc.com/dev/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Performance-Outcomes-After-Hook-of-the-Hamate-Fractures-in-Major-League-Baseball-Players.-J-Sport-Rehabil.pdf Definitely one for our stats-interested members to evaluate. Some interesting statements from the article: “We hypothesized that a hook of hamate fracture would lead to a decrease in performance in MLB players. However, our results demonstrated that players returned to their preinjury performance level. MLB players sustaining hook of hamate fractures did not show any decrease in performance when compared with matched-controls. Our findings suggest that MLB players are able to return to their prior performance level, and continue their careers unhindered after sustaining a hook of hamate fracture. Interestingly, when controlling for all factors included in our multivariate regression model, WAR 2 seasons preinjury and ISO preinjury were predictive of performance after injury with a strong positive correlation. We believe that the players who were more productive preinjury, were more motivated to complete their rehabilitation and return to play at an elite level...... Conclusion: Hook of hamate fractures treated by operative means, in MLB players, did not impact postinjury performance. MLB players were able to return to play after their injury and perform at a similar level as their control-matched peers at 2 years postinjury.” We can hope that Urias can get back to levels in one year, though it looks like the two-year prognosis is very good.
  17. Per McCalvy, team expects full recovery, no lingering effects. IIRC, didn't Brad Nelson have a fractured hamate? Brad Nelson did have that injury back in the day. (Nice to see another Brewerfan veteran remember that name, though wish that Nelson would have turned out to be a star!) But it seems like there may have been some progress in treating hamate fractures in athletes, primarily going the surgical excision route. Looks like that has more success than past treatment. I found an interesting abstract of a medical journal about that: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6194943/
  18. Derek Jeter named on all but one ballot: 396 of 397 (99.75%) Larry Walker barely slides in: 76.6% https://www.mlb.com/news/hall-of-fame-class-of-2020
  19. About the only worse thing that could’ve happened in the 1st Half was major injury to a Packers player. Completely overwhelmed on both sides of the ball. Chiefs versus 49ers should be an interesting Super Bowl matchup. See if the KC passing offense can crack the SF defense and KC defense figure out a way to stop the SF rushing offense.
