  1. Which peripherals are those? His OPS against in games "late and close" is 1.053. Hitters are batting .364 with 2 outs and RISP. RH hitters are an astounding .400/.488/.686 against him. That leads to Counsell having to take him out and replace him with another bad reliever against RH hitters. His value is nil. While right handers have pounded Drake this year, I don't believe his minor league history shows him to have any sort of huge split numbers. He's got all of 22 innings this year. I wouldn't judge the guy just on those. There are hundreds of minor league innings (and some other major league innings the past couple of years) to consider. I am not defending Drake. To be honest, I really don't know that much about him. But I don't know if 22 innings of stats should paint an entire picture of a guy.
  2. Exactly. Unless there's something the front office sees in a struggling player like Wilhelmsen, just move on to someone who has some upside and could potentially help you beyond 2017.
  3. We can have fun today. Up until the draft starts tonight, we can do a runoff of the Milwaukee Brewer vote. Only the surviving players can be voted on. That means you have to vote from the following: Jo Adell, OF DL Hall, LHP David Peterson, LHP Start making your votes.
  4. What about this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game
  5. I want to thank everyone for participating in our 2nd BF.net community mock draft. I thought it was fun. I hope everyone enjoyed. Thanks again for playing along.

HS - RUNOFF BETWEEN ALL THREE CANDIDATES IN PROGRESS
  7. With the ninth selection in this year's draft, the Milwaukee Brewers selection: LHP/OF - DL Jo Peterson Or maybe there was a three way tie: Jo Odell, OF, Ballard (Ky.) HS David Peterson, LHP, Oregon D.L. Hall, LHP, Valdosta (Ga.) HS The voting went as such: Adell - 5 Peterson - 5 Hall - 5 Beck - 3 Baz - 2 Faedo - 2 Carlson - 2 Rogers - 2 Kendall - 1 That's the community mock draft. Hope everyone had fun doing this little exercise.
  8. The big buzz now is that the Twins are leaning towards McKay. Doesn't really affect Milwaukee, but it makes for some intriguing drama.
  9. Mike Fiers has given up 18 HR in 65 innings this year. On pace to give up 46 this year. It's very Bronson Arroyoesque. Amazingly, his ERA is 4.29 despite all the gopher balls.
  10. Brewers: Sogard Santana Thames Aguilar Perez Pina Phillips Arcia Guerra Diamondbacks: Descalso Peralta Goldschmidt Lamb Owing Drury Iannetta Fuentes Godley
  11. Ugh. Well, following the Cubs model, but they have some resources the Brewers don't. The thing with OF... if they draft (another) one at #9 he better be really, really special. Like, perennial all-star/HOF talent. Because what we've seen is that between Brinson, Phillips, Cordell, Santana, Broxton... they are fairly easy to obtain in a trade. They don't cost much to acquire, and you can move guys there too (Perez). They are perhaps the inefficiency in the market. So why spend valuable resources (#9 overall) on assets that don't cost much to acquire? I think that with Adell in particular, they see a potential all-star - albeit a very raw and young guy. Adell will need time to develop - no one would expect him to be in Milwaukee in a year or two. It's taking a guy with a very high ceiling (who are hard to come by) - but also with significant bust potential.
  12. I think Garza is supposed to be back -- but I'm not positive. So I was thinking bullpen. However, maybe you're right. Maybe they'll give him a start. I guess we will find out soon enough.
  13. I'm okay with this. Hader is all over the board at Colorado Springs. I'm fine with him coming up and working out of the bullpen. I'd still like him to ultimately get a shot as a starter, but for now, let's him get out of the Colorado air, and have him working with the big league coaches on his game. Perhaps half a season in the pen will help him a lot. Or maybe he comes in and dominates as a reliever. A lot of people see that as his future. But for now, if fills some needs and purposes.
  14. I have heard from sources that the Brewers are focusing on position players at #9. Jo Adell, Adam Haseley and Pavin Smith are good bets. Perhaps Beck as well. The team supposedly is very impressed with Pavin Smith - and if he is there, he might be the pick. The club love Adell's talent, and with all the outfielders in the system, they would be content to let him develop at his own pace. I do not know if this information assumes Bukauskas is gone by #9. Of course, all is this with the caveat that the club is pretty tight-lipped about things - and with a new scouting director, you never know.
  15. This is a tough one! Four picks, four different options.
  16. Picks thus far... 1 - Tuesday, May 30 - Minnesota Twins - Kyle Wright, RHP, Vanderbilt 2 - Wednesday, May 31 - Cincinnati Reds - Brendan McKay, LHP/1B, Louisville 3 - Thursday, June 1 - San Diego Padres - Hunter Greene, RHP/SS, Notre Dame (Calif.) HS 4 - Friday, June 2 - Tampa Bay Rays - Royce Lewis - SS/OF, JSerra Catholic (Calif.) HS 5 - Monday, June 5 - Atlanta Braves - MacKenzie Gore, LHP, Whiteville (N.C.) HS 6 - Tuesday, June 6 - Oakland Athletics - Pavin Smith, 1B, Virginia 7 - Wednesday, June 7 - Arizona Diamondbacks - Adam Haseley, OF, Virginia 8 - Thursday, June 8 - Philadelphia Phillies - J.B. Bukauskas, RHP, North Carolina 9 - Friday, June 9 - Milwaukee Brewers - on the clock
  17. With the eighth pick in the draft, Philadelphia selects J.B. Bukauskas, RHP, North Carolina. Here's the breakdown of the votes: Bukauskas - 7 Baz and Beck - 3 each Faedo and Kendall - 1 each The Brewers are on the clock!!! You have until end of the day, Sunday, June 11 (or until the morning, depending on when I close things) to make your pick. This will be the last selection of our mock draft as the real draft occurs on June 12.
  18. Phillies go with Bukauskas at 1.8.
  19. Why not pinch run Aguilar? Perez is available - and could go to 1B if needed.
  20. I would say that is true for a guy like Phillips. He still has a lot to learn - and being on the bench doesn't help a lot. On the other hand, a guy like Wren is almost for sure never going to be a starter. He is what he is - a light hitting player, who is probably going to max out as a 4th OF. What's he got left to learn? Therefore, having him on the bench isn't really impeding his development. It fact, since it's his likely future role - why not just get him there (assuming you have a spot for him)? In the end, it kind of depends on the player and situation.
  21. I agree that it's questionable that the Brewers would deal a player like Guerra for a less than stellar prospect. The days of desiring quantity over quality are past. Despite his age, we still control Guerra for a long time - and if the club thinks he's a good pitcher - that makes him a key member of our rotation. Of course, never say never. You get a deal you love - make it. But let's not deal guys just to deal guys.
  22. Brendon Rodgers is one of the top 10-20 prospects in all of baseball. Rockies would want an elite starter for Rodgers - if they would even consider such a move.
  23. Draft picks so far: 1 - Tuesday, May 30 - Minnesota Twins - Kyle Wright, RHP, Vanderbilt 2 - Wednesday, May 31 - Cincinnati Reds - Brendan McKay, LHP/1B, Louisville 3 - Thursday, June 1 - San Diego Padres - Hunter Greene, RHP/SS, Notre Dame (Calif.) HS 4 - Friday, June 2 - Tampa Bay Rays - Royce Lewis - SS/OF, JSerra Catholic (Calif.) HS 5 - Monday, June 5 - Atlanta Braves - MacKenzie Gore, LHP, Whiteville (N.C.) HS 6 - Tuesday, June 6 - Oakland Athletics - Pavin Smith, 1B, Virginia 7 - Wednesday, June 7 - Arizona Diamondbacks - Adam Haseley, OF, Virginia 8 - Thursday, June 8 - Philadelphia Phillies - on the clock 9 - Friday, June 9 - Milwaukee Brewers
