Turner would be fabulous to have, but I figure it's got to take at least three years to get him. If he was willing to go for two years, he'd probably have signed with the Dodgers already. Just a guess on my part. Turner would fit this club really well right now, but I will add that I'm wary of a 36-year old player. His defense is now probably just average, and it's unlikely he'll get better at this point. And Turner has missed time almost every season for the past four years. Still, he's a good player who would fit a huge need for us. I'd be surprised if we splurged on him. Too bad the other options aren't great.

Nice article about the deal at Fangraphs: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/brewers-sign-kolten-wong-to-overhaul-infield-defense/ The author illustrates the value quite nicely (and includes some sweet video of Wong showing off his glove).

Angels only owe $1.75M of Fowler's salary. Cardinals are paying $12.5M. Total salary dump. They clearly wanted to move on from him. Cardinals got 2.0 bWAR for $82.5M. Pretty brutal.

BRef list Mathias as maintaing rookie status for 2021, so I believe he should still be eligible. You are correct. Thanks for catching him. I will update him on the intro post. Also, going to baseball-reference.com and checking the 'rookie status' row is how I'm going by things. So check there if anyone else is missing.

Interesting note: Tyrone Taylor was #2 on our very first poll back in 2014. Seven years later, he is still eligible for voting. No one else from Top 40 or so players is eligible anymore. The players still with Milwaukee from that initial list: Orlando Arcia, Devin Williams and Brent Suter. viewtopic.php?f=64&t=39654

Greeting, we would like to invite everyone to take part in the 2020 Pre-Season BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects voting. Voting is now open. You need to submit on this thread your top 25 Brewer prospects. Feel free to list any resources or news that you feel might help people with their voting. Voting concludes on March 19. You can change your votes at anytime through that date. RULES 1. Submit your Top 25 prospects, in order, by end of day on March 19, 2021. Put the player's full name to avoid any confusion. I appreciate it you would number them. Also, please list your players from #1 to #25. 2. You MUST submit 25 prospects. If there are only 10 or 15 or whatever, your list will not be included. 3. You are encouraged to go beyond pick #25. This way if a player you vote for is released or traded, or you list someone twice, or whatever, we can just bump up your next player. 4. Rankings are determined by total points. The top prospect gets 25 points, second prospect gets 24 points, etc. 4. As noted above, if you submit your list and want to change something, just add the change to the thread via the edit function. I'll accept changes up to the deadline. 5. Within a week or so after the deadline, we'll publish the new BF.net Community Top 25. I will add that I have always liked Wong. I wanted the Crew to draft him back in the day (we got Taylor Jungmann and Jed Bradley instead). The dip in power last year was a tad worrisome, but let's hope that comes back a bit. The average should be solid, and I love his glove. We just need to limit his exposure to left handed pitchers. No matter, I'm happy to have him.

Hey! I actually got this one right back on Nov. 2. viewtopic.php?f=66&t=39968&start=80#p1324959 I said sign Wong and move Hiura to 1B. The blind squirrel finds a nut!! Of course, we never signed Tommy La Stella or Robbie Ray. And Wong got more than I anticipated (I had 2-years, $16M) - but hey, it's fun to have gotten one slightly out-of-the-box idea correct.

My wife got her second shot yesterday. Her first one had no side effects whatsoever. This time she got tired and just felt a bit off about 8-9 hours after the shot. This morning, her arm was definitely sore, but not terrible. She still felt a little groggy - but has gotten pretty much back to normal by this afternoon. So pretty good results for her. I'm happy she got the vaccine, and looking forward to when I can (it will be a long while for that).

Filling Out the Roster
Matt Breen replied to BrewCrewBlueDevil's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Renato Nunez is a power guy - but nothing much else. Strikes out a lot, doesn't walk that much, probably be lucky to hit around .250, mediocre defense. Has played 1B/3B. Just kind of 'meh'. -

I was thinking the exact same thing. Well done. Not that I want these guys - but I can see that's where we land. -
Free Agent Signing Thread (Non-Brewers)
Matt Breen replied to Eye Black's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
This was a solid buy for Philly. Didi and La Stella at SS and 3B would have been nice moves for us. But I realize that neither move is a game-changer. I just have a feeling the club is looking to deal someone - likely Hader - to fill some spots. We shall see. -
Free Agent Signing Thread (Non-Brewers)
Matt Breen replied to Eye Black's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yeah, this was a pretty solid addition for SF. He would have been a decent addition - perhaps slot in at 3B. Not a great player - but a decent one. His versatility would have been a plus. -
The tough part about the Arenado trade is that no one was stepping up in the NL Central. It seemed like everyone was shedding payroll. Thus, it would have been a good time to make some sort of move(s). Of course, it's easier said than done. And there's still some time to add some players. I just doubt we'll be making any big splashes.

Turner reportedly asking for a 4 year deal. Dodgers offering 2 years. They'll meet in the middle is my guess. Turner doesn't want to leave LA.

I understand the frustration, but there's still a wide delta between doses available and administered. Also, doses given per week keeps going up. That tells me a shortage isn't the problem, it's that the state isn't sending enough to your area for whatever reason. I believe (but not 100% sure) larger metro areas have gotten higher percentages of the vaccines. I think this because they are more likely to be/become hot spots - so there's a desire to get people vaccinated as fast as possible. Which I think makes sense. Clustered people tend to have outbreaks more than a spread out population.
-
Here's a specific example that healthcare orgs are facing. Two weeks ago, my wife's organization got (insert number) of vaccines. One week ago they 2/3 of that number. This week, they got 1/2 of the original number of vaccines. The total number of vaccines they are getting is around 1/4 of what they are asking for. This is happening along with 700,000 more Wisconsinites being eligible for the vaccine (starting Tuesday, 1.6M people in the state will be eligible for the vaccine - basically 1/3 of the population). And we can't forget, 300,000 people have gotten the vaccine in the state - and many of them will need a second shot. The big issue is the state just isn't getting that many vaccines. We are at 70,000 a week for at least another month or so. Thus, things are not going to change any time soon.

First game I ever went to was back in 1975 or 76. Sat out in left field bleachers and Aaron came up to the wall - signed some baseballs and pitched them into the stands. Man, that would have been cool to have caught one of those. I still remember him hitting his 715th HR. Back then cable was pretty slim, but there was TBS (or whatever it was called then), and they carried the Braves. My brother was watching the game and said, "Hank Aaron's up," and so I walked into the room - and boom - history. It was pretty cool. I still remember it even though I was only 10 years old at the time. Amazing baseball player. His longevity was incredible. He hit .301 and 40 HR at the age of 39. Guys just don't do that without PEDs.

My wife's organization has gone through this same thing. It's lead to a lot of confusion and frustration. It just got announced with no heads up to the health care orgs, who are left to scramble for how they are going to manage things. The big problem is that the places that can give the shot aren't necessarily built to handle thousands of calls to set up a the shots. It's really unprecedented for them. The other big issue - at least for my wife's organization - is that they don't know when - and how many - vaccines they will be getting. If you schedule too many people for shots, everyone gets angry about being re-scheduled. And if you don't schedule enough, everyone will get angry about that. Another issue is the state is trying to organize how to get the vaccines administered throughout the state. It's a huge endeavor. This is a mass vaccination we're talking about - and there are a ton of moving parts. Is it unprecedented though? Yes and no. Everyone who gets the flu shot every year get it within the same window of time, for the most part. I understand this vaccine is different in several ways, but they've also had many months to prepare. It's pretty easy to generate a list of patients within a healthcare system that are 75+ or 65+. Then there's the high risk patients of a younger age- which is a little more difficult but very manageable if you break it down the primary physician level. The pharmacy program for skilled nursing facilities and assisted living should be even easier. We already know how many there are, where they are, and how many residents are at each one. With many months to plan, that should be relatively easy. All that said, I get that nothing is ever as easy as it seems. Actually, I this is pretty unprecedented for much of the state. It's just not something that has been done - rolling out a state-wide vaccine campaign a matter of weeks. First, the planning and rollout has just been haphazard. The decision to offer vaccines to 65+ was announced without much warning - and healthcare system were overwhelmed with inquiries. A lot could have been alleviated if a schedule had been put up weeks ago - just gradually increasing things - such as starting at age 85+ and then dropping it 5 or 10 years two weeks later. And then another 5-10 years two weeks after that, etc., etc. It would have allowed the public - and the healthcare systems - to have planned accordingly. If the feds had offered that guidance up front, it might have helped. And a lot. Of course, that's hindsight. And who knows what issues would have cropped up instead. Second, thing, right now the state is getting 70,000 doses per week, yet 200,000 eligible people are requesting the vaccine. My wife's organization puts in a request for vaccines each week, and on Friday at 6:00 p.m. they are told how many they will be getting the next week - so they can finally start to confirm appointments with people. And even then, the vaccines are supposed to arrive the following Monday, but they have arrived as a late as Wednesday. Also, the number of vaccines they receive each week isn't consistent, so they can't just count on using the number they had gotten the previous week. Third, the deep cold storage needed for some of the vaccines is unique - and has provided some limitations. But I think that was more to start. Fourth thing, people have to be trained on how to administer the shot - you have to stick them in a specific spot, know what to look for, etc. Plus the person getting the vaccine has to wait 15-20 minutes after getting the shot - and be checked on by a health professional. Not a huge deal, but important. In the end, there has just not been a state-wide, coordinated vaccine program like this established in a matter of weeks. The state - and the feds - just have not done that (at least that I'm aware of). Flu vaccines are handled years and months in advance. And shortages are rare. I want to stress that I only know this stuff from the point of view of a healthcare system. How all the nursing homes and so forth come into this is not something I know much about.

There is a proposal to get all Wisconsinites available for vaccination by March. The problem is that we are only getting 70,000 doses a week. And that won't change for at least a month or so. And the other thing not mentioned is that the distribution of those doses isn't consistent. My wife said her org doesn't know what they'll be getting very far in advance. Again, this makes scheduling a real issue. https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/2021/01/21/republicans-propose-making-covid-vaccine-available-everyone-mid-march/4231850001/ The cynic in me says this is strictly a political ploy, but I hope not. It's such a serious thing.

My wife got her first vaccine shot on Monday. She's doing well - no side affects other than a bit of a sore arm where she got the shot. As she work's in a hospital system, she's knows a lot of people who have got the shot. Thus far, it seems that the second shot has had some harsher side effects. One friend had a bad headache for two days and was just sort of wiped out. Otherwise, it's all over the board regarding reactions - but nothing too severe. Can't wait to get my shot - but it's a long way off as I'm not on any need-to-get list. But eventually.
