  1. I think that Franco is a limited player - but perhaps the guy who offers the most at this point at 3B. I mean - it's not like there's a bunch of good 3B sitting around looking for work. It's the mediocre and the dregs. Franco has been inconsistent throughout his career, but at 28, you have to hope he can put things together. His defense has improved to the point where it's adequate. He doesn't strike out a ton. He's got some pop. He's had some decent batting averages (as well as some bad BAs). If the club feels there's a .275 hitter with 20 HR and okay defense in the guy - that's pretty good. No, he won't win a gold glove. Or take a lot of walks. Or be a plus baserunner. But the package could net you a solid full-time player who would be a respectable power bat in a lineup that's lacking in pop. Of course, this all means you're hoping he improves - or at least can replicate his 2020 season. In my opinion, I'd just roll with what we have. Let Urias and Robertson have the gig. They are cheap. And I think both would be good 3B. I'd love to just double down on the good defense - and hope that both these guys can hit enough to justify their playing time. Add in a ground ball pitcher like Brett Anderson for a few million - I think that would be fine. This team has so many unknowns - I'd rather take a few risks with younger players, and see how they play out. We can then make moves in-season if necessary. I like that over spending on 'proven' players who just aren't that good.
  2. I've always felt he's a bit underrated and I think that would be a solid target. Obviously cost would determine whether the trade is feasible or not I had forgotten about the guy. Seems like a reasonable guy to look into.
  3. Season one and two were done by Syfy season 3-5 is done by Amazon. Season 3 and 5 are my favorite seasons I didn't like season 4 as much as the others and season 2 can drag a bit here and there. That's cool. I loved the world-building and crazy fun points of view the story provided. Kudos to the script writers for weaving in so many compelling story lines. Looking forward to more. And I don't mind a little slow burn on a story. As long as the payoff is worth it.
  4. Yeah, that seems perfectly reasonable. Would have been nice to have at that price.
  5. I watched the first season of the sci-fi show 'The Expanse' on Amazon Prime. Really impressed thus far.
  6. Yep, Rich Hill to Rays. Done deal. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/02/rays-rich-hill-progressing-toward-deal.html Closing thread.
  7. My guess is that agents get their percentage of the money when the player does. I mean, let's say a player gets a $100M deal -- is the player expected to fork over 6% or 10% or whatever of that $100M at that moment? He might not even make that much in his first year (especially true for pre-arbitration guys who sign long extensions). And then there's incentives and split contracts and opt outs. It seems to me the player only pays when he's been paid. I can't see how it would work otherwise.
  8. According to the ground rules, Rasmussen is no longer eligible. I had to look twice, because I thought I may have forgotten a guy that would have been in my top 3 Yep, you are correct. A couple of people have put him on lists. This is why I want more than 25 players - for things like this. Thanks for pointing it out.
  9. As a note, Olczak was released by the Brewers last May. https://www.mlb.com/player/jon-olczak-664144?stats=career-r-pitching-minors&year=2020 No team - at least according to MLB - has signed him thus far. Perhaps someone else knows more about his situation. I could be wrong, but I believe Aaron Familia, Anthony Bender and Francisco Gonzalez also aren't still with the organization. I checked and you are correct on all three counts. Thanks for the notice.
  10. Sox send Benintendi to Royal, plus $2.8M (his salary for 2021 is $6.6M). Red Sox will get two players from the Royals - OF Franchy Cordero and a player to be named. They will will get RHP Josh Winckowski from the Mets. The Mets will get OF prospect Khalil Lee. More details to come... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/02/red-sox-reportedly-nearing-trade-involving-andrew-benintendi.html

  12. Here are some recent nuggets for guys under consideration mostly outside the current top ten... Thanks, Eye Black. This was awesome to have.
  13. I'm so skeptical of Turner leaving LA. It's his hometown. People love him there. He's really involved in the community, including lots of charity work, a foundation, etc., etc. He's made a lot of money in his career, so I just don't see him bailing for an extra year with Milwaukee or wherever. Unless the Dodgers are really putting the screws on Turner, I'm guessing he re-signs. It just makes too much sense.
  14. I'm loving all the voting so far. Please throw out your support for specific players if you want to promote them. This is especially true for the young international players - who many of us (including myself) know little about. This is especially true since we don't have data from last year. Thanks!
  15. Was Burnes a top 50? I know I'm splitting hairs here. I was just thinking him and Woodruff were both lower end top 100 guys. I don't think Lucroy ever cracked the top 100 and he ended up being arguably our best catcher in franchise history. You're not far off. Burnes was #46 on BAs pre-season Top 100 in 2019 (and #74 in 2018). He was #69 and #60 for MLB and Baseball Prospectus prior to 2018 - but never Top 50.
  16. Narvaez will reboud. Pina will be fine. or Nottingham or one of the other 16 catchers on the roster does well. Hiura will hit better and adapt to 1B. Wong will continue to be one of the best 2Bs in baseball. Arcia will benefit massively from having one of the best 2Bs in baseball next to him. And hit better. Urias will blossom as a hitter and be one of the premiere defensive 3B in baseball. Garcia will rebound and hit 20+HR and .270+ Cain will be a Gold Glove level CF and hit .280+ Yelich will be an MVP candidate Woodruff and Burnes will continue to kick butt. Lindblom and Houser will develop into solid mid rotation arms We find a 5th and 6h starter amongst are players. The morass of bullpen arms we've assembled will be a formidable arsenal of weapons against the tyranny of Cardinals and Cubs and Yankees and Padres and Dodgers - and all the other heathens. Go Brewers!!! So excited for 2021.
  17. Dude, my head exploded.
  18. I'd take Bryant and his salary and ride all the way to bank. The guy's going to be primed to for a huge year. Take the risk. No, I won't give up a ton for him. But I think he'd be a fascinating gamble. But it'll never happen. No way the Cubs trade him to a division rival.
  19. Brad Nelson went 2-28 in his MLB career with 2 doubles. 3 walks as well. Had an OPS+ of -18.
  20. I know they started out slow but I thought a lot of progress was made in the last week. I thought they had moved up to like 28th best or something. Per this guy they are now 6th in the nation: Yep. Publicly available info lists Wisconsin as 6th in the nation as far as percent of vaccine used and near the national average in percent of people receiving one dose and percent of people receiving two doses.https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/covid-vaccine-tracker-global-distribution/ I can't read the bloomberg info as it's pay - but I can just say that my wife's organization is frustrated. The feeling is that the rural and poor areas are bypassed for the bigger cities. My wife's org can't fill all the 2nd vaccines that they are supposed to dispense this week. Immensely frustrating. Shouldn't happen.
  21. Wisconsin has actually been lagging way behind most states in distributing shots. My wife told me the state is 2nd worst in the nation at getting our people vaccinated. Roughly 1/5 of all the vaccines sent to Wisconsin haven't been used (source below). One big reason is that so many of the shots reserved for nursing homes and assisted living has not been given - or they are just starting. Much of this was allocated to the larger pharmacies - Walgreens, CVS, etc. And they have struggled throughout the country to get the vaccine distributed. My mom, who is 86, is getting her shot next week when Walgreens sends someone to her retirement facility. She's been eligible for a while - but finally getting it. I'm not sure if the pharmacies were prepared to be doing stuff like this. They may have just taken some time to get up to speed. Let's hope it goes quicker and smoother going forward. Another reason is that many vaccines are allocated for 2nd shots. Another issue is that the state simply isn't getting that many vaccines. https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/2021/02/04/wisconsin-covid-vaccine-doses-unused-so-where-they-shortage-appointments/4308990001/ I think the big thing is that the vaccine distributers (pharmacies, healthcare systems, etc.) have just gotten things under control - plus the public is understanding what is ahead (whether they like it or not). The initial surge was hundreds of thousands of people trying to get scheduled for their vaccine - and no one was prepared for that so it was just chaotic.
  22. Ozuna was awesome last year. 18 HR in 60 games. .338 OPS. 1.067 OPS. Those are huge numbers. Of course, no one expects that kind of production. But even if he hits .270 and pops 30 HR, it's pretty awesome for $16M a year. They guy is 30, so he should still have a least another couple of years of quality production. With all that, they can live with his defense.
  23. Exactly what I was thinking. He can still go year-to-year if he wants - but if he gets hurt or whatever, he's got some serious insurance money.
  24. Thank you for kicking off the poll, brooks_quichenick. Appreciate it. Thanks for continuing to set this up for us! 7 years ago I made the offer to run things. No one else ever wants to do it - so now it's just sort of my thing. It's fun, but can be a bit time consuming in crunch time. But that's life.
  25. Good for Freitas. Gets a nice chunk of cash. Let's hope he does well and can keep it up for a few years - make enough to make him and his family comfortable for a long time.
