  1. For those who want to see it, NBC's website has video of the opening ceremony up, finally. It's divided into 3 parts, so you don't have to watch the whole thing...just parts of it. I've loved watching these Olympics. Good stories, good events so far. I wish I had cable to watch them on the other stations, too.
  2. I'm taking a few grad school classes this fall. My program is designed for working adults, so I have night/weekend courses. I have a Saturday morning class, and it's supposed to begin August 30, which is Labor Day weekend. You don't really think they'll start classes on a holiday weekend, do you?
  3. some people won't date a smoker--I won't date a fan of the Eagles (the band). Hey, man, can you change the station? No...if you don't like my music, you can get your own cab. I had a rough night, and I hate the Eagles, man.
  4. I can't BELIEVE I didn't mention the Boundary Waters! I've been there 4 times, and each has been spectacular. Nothing but relaxing nature all around.
  5. I'm always thinking where I want to go on vacation next (even though it will be a few years probably), and want to get an idea of where people have been that they absolutely loved for some reasons. A couple of my favorites: Northern Arizona: Loved the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley Bavaria: Munich is the most fun city I've been to, and Berchtesgaden is probably the most beautiful place I've been That's it for favs, I guess. Anyone else care to share?
  6. Ahh, I'll play your game, you rogue... Geography US States State Capitols World War II The 1960s Potpourri! Not so serious... Words that end in "urple" Current US Presidents Continents Colors "S" words Therapists
  7. I once worked for an organization that had a basketball team, and it's fan base was kind of small. I joined that team's discussion board, with the thought that the team needed more fans to come to the game. I actually started on BF.net as another screen name long ago, but for some reason I stopped browsing for a few months, and forgot my password, so I had to re-register. At the time I re-registered, the Brewer fan base was quite small (at least in the stands), so I thought it would work here as well.
  8. I live right across the street from a set of tracks in Madison, and every once in a while, the same thing happens. It just happened yesterday...the engineer wailed on his horn for about 30 seconds without stopping. It also happens at night on occasion. I don't get it either.
  9. Here's one of mine... You are driving in the right lane of a freeway approaching an off ramp. A car comes speeding past you in the left, only to exit at the off ramp. Why did that car just pass you?
  10. There is a fast food chain in Iowa that I quite enjoy...Maid-Rite. They serve only loose-meat sandwiches, and fantastic malts. Once upon a time, there was one in Madison on the west side, but it closed. I try to go any time I head back to Iowa.
  11. I'm going to chime in, because I'm a wannabe social studies teacher. I have four different licenses within social studies...broad field, econ, history, and poli sci. Two years, no luck...just 2 interviews. I'll admit, I have a small area in the state where I am looking, because I'm not willing to pick up and leave. I've subbed for 2 years, got a long term job, but nothing permanent. My advise...give up, temporarily, the desire to be a social studies teacher and go into something in high demand, like special ed. That's what I'm doing. Special ed is a high demand area, so chances of getting a job are fairly high. Once you're in, you're in, and you can always transfer when school districts have internal postings (within larger districts, that is). My other advise, is do what I'm not willing to do, and move to a state that is fast growing, like Arizona.
  12. Tramps like us, Baby we were born to run.
  13. 2 questions with iTunes... 1) How do they determine which part of the song they cut down for their preview? I have listened to plenty of songs which the selected 30 seconds is not the best representation for the entire song. 2) Why are some albums by an artist on iTunes, while others are not?
  14. I'll hop on a bit late... 2-1 @ Arizona 2-1 vs. Pittsburgh 3-1 vs. Colorado 2-1 vs. Cincinatti (All Star Break) 2-1 @ San Fransisco 1-3 @ St. Louis 2-1 vs. Houston 2-2 vs. Chicago That would be 16-11 for the month. I could also see 14-13 pretty easily, however.
  15. So the interstate will help you on the way home, but not on the way to Milwaukee... Looking at that map...I'd take BB (Cottage Grove Rd) to Lake Mills, then A or B to Johnson Creek, then hop on the freeway.
  16. Maybe (if it's all open) drive up 151 to Hwy 19 in Sun Prairie. Take 19 East to Watertown, down 26 to the interstate at Johnson Creek. Or hop on 16 at Watertown and take that East.
  17. I went in to the name, updated it, rebooted both computers, and now everything is just the way I want it. Works great. Thanks!
  18. Both computers can talk to each other just fine. I'm trying to play with some firewall stuff, too. Sadly, this happened a few years ago, but I have no idea how I fixed it.
  19. So I'm trying to set up a network at home between our two computers. I've done this before, but for some reason I can't get it to work. I have 2 computers...one that I call Desktop and one I call Livingroom, and I named the network "Our Apartment". Both computers are hooked up to a wireless router. So I ran the wizard on both computers. On the desktop, I can see the livingroom computer, but I can't access it. It says "path not found" or check for permission or something. I can't see the Desktop computer from the Livingroom computer. Can someone help me get this configured? Thank you!
  20. Personally, I'd like to hope the run now means a little more than a 24-10 start to the season. Right now, no one can say "they're off to a hot start, but they'll cool down and come back to earth." I also like how it's gone unnoticed, because if they do cool off, it may go unnoticed as well.
  21. I've found a couple places. I like the Union terrace, but lately, so does everyone else. Last year, we went to James Madison Park, but with Gorham all torn up, it may not be as accessible. Also, the lake smelled bad last summer, so that was a negative for J.M. Park. Otherwise...not sure. We won't be attending this year because we are going on vacation leaving Saturday.
  22. Someone, somehow, hacked into my Gmail account and tried to sell stuff from China using my name...sent it to everyone in my contacts, then deleted all of my contacts. I changed my password, so hopefully that takes care of the trick.
  23. Based on your post, I'm guessing the only reason why you didn't like Arizona was because of the heat. If you took over 800 pictures, there was obviously plenty to see. My wife and I went down to Arizona for a week back in March. We went to the typical places...Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon and Sedona, and we loved it. I mean it wasn't warm and the wind blew 50 mph and it snowed in Sedona...but 80 in Phoenix sure felt nice in March. I'm sure I'd think different if we went now. One thing I loved was how the scenery changed as we drove. Yeah, most of it was desert, but the landscape was always different. I've never been through such crazy elevation changes, either. With that being said, the post is comparing Wisconsin to Arizona. In my opinion, it comes down to weather and your personal preference. I'd love a climate with the low humidity that Arizona has, reduced allergens to make me suffer, and warm winters with snow just a couple hours away (Flagstaff gets lots of snow). But, June through September would kill me. I don't care if it's a dry heat or not, 120 is pretty darn hot. It would take the enjoyment out of pretty much everything outside. I'd also probably miss green grass and lakes. So to me, it's a toss up.
  24. Yeah, I think implementing it mid-season is sort of strange. How will it help teams who have already been negatively affected by the umps in some way so far this season? I say bring it in during spring training next year, or even test it down in AAA at a few parks, then go in feet first on opening day next year.
