  1. That was actually my favorite episode this season. I liked how a lot of things stayed in the office. Part of me, however, wishes Dwight would have been in the office for the whole debate. I really loved the opening part, and Kevin's short part was great.
  2. Ok, here's an explanation... I was a senior in high school on Jan. 1, 1999, the day of that game. I was trying to decide where to go to college. I narrowed it down to two places...University of Minnesota, or UW-Madison. The moment Jamar Fletcher took that pick to the house, I decided to go to UW. My reasoning? How could I possibly cheer against the Badgers?--OR--How could I cheer for anyone other than the Badgers? As stupid as it sounds, I based my choice of college on the athletic teams. So I chose to go to UW, fell in love with Madison, met my wife, and am now employed. Had the Badgers stunk it up that day, who knows what my decision would have been.
  3. I came to the realization today that I am where I am in my life because Jamar Fletcher intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown in the 1999 Rose Bowl.
  4. You call this a storm? This is nothing. I'd rather have the high predictions and have less snow, vs. having low amounts predicted then getting slammed.
  5. We are hosting my parents for Thanksgiving for the first time. They live near Milwaukee, and we live in Madison, and my grandparents/extended family all live in central Iowa. Their initial plan was to come here, eat, then leave Friday morning for Iowa. My mother likes to have the big meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas around 2 PM, but my wife was raised to have the meal at the dinner hour, 5 or 6. Personally, I like the later time too, so I told my mother it would be during the normal dinner hour. Needless to say, she was not very happy about the decision. She proceeded to ask me if we could move the dinner time up a few hours so they could drive to Iowa Thursday evening (4 hours from Madison), because it would be "more convenient." I'm now convinced my parents never really wanted to spend Thanksgiving with us, but were going to stop, eat, and run, because we happened to live between them and the rest of the family.
  6. In northern cities, like Milwaukee, it's not just about saving 5 games...it's about creating a comfortable setting in the cold Aprils, Mays, Septembers, and if lucky, Octobers that we get up here. Without a roof, not nearly as many people would come to games when it is 40 outside. I'd argue it's about selling tickets, not saving 5 games that would be made up later on anyways. Heading back to the original question... Say Tampa plays Houston in the World Series. Would they still move it to a neutral site? They wouldn't really need to since the weather would be a non-factor (even though October is the end of hurricane season). If those teams did have to go neutral, the argument that they need to go neutral for weather is thrown out the window. If they didn't have to go neutral, and say Philly and Cleveland did, how would that be fair?
  7. Here's a really dumb question... When the president heads to a foreign country, or a foreign leader come to the US, do they have to show a passport?
  8. As much as it pains me to say this, The Simpsons should have stopped after about season 12. I think they are on season 19 or 20 right now. It is my favorite show of all time, but I just can't watch it anymore (and haven't been able to for a few years now).
  9. I'm seeing ads for the first time tonight. I will admit, it is quite annoying.
  10. How come the in the Boston Celtics name, Celtics is pronounced like "Seltics", whereas people from Ireland/Scotland/Wales pronounce it "Keltic"?
  11. I heard today on Madison's sports radio station that the Brewers offered Fielder a 5 year/$60 mil contract extension, but he declined the offer. I've been looking for a link to that story, but have come up empty. Has anyone else heard this story?
  12. I try to avoid downtown Madison as much as possible over Halloween weekend. I never liked the huge crowds and pepper spray. And now, I don't feel like paying money to walk down a street I can walk down for free the other 364 days a year.
  13. I loved that episode. It was one of the best ones in a long time. I loved Darrell calling Kelly, just so he didn't have to listen to Michael and Holly. Creed was fantastic, and I loved the Andy/Dwight stuff.
  14. Today, 93.1 The Lake in Madison changed from classic rock to hip-hop. 93.1 was a much better classic rock station than 101.5, in my opinion. Now I have no station to wake up to in the morning that actually will play classic rock. All I will get will be talk. I guess I should buy an iPod alarm...
  15. I watched it a second time, and really enjoyed it. I loved Dwight..."$700 and one penny. $800 and one penny."
  16. Hill Farms out by Hilldale Mall is probably the closest. There is also a DMV express service center at Westgate.
  17. I'm not surprised at this one bit. After hearing Melvin say that experienced managers have approached him, I thought that was the kiss of death for Sveum. I'm getting this gut feeling that Macha is one of the guys, especially since he was Melvin's first choice back when they hired Yost. I'm hoping Showalter isn't the guy...he seems to wear out his welcome where ever he goes. I'd be OK with Valentine, but I'm really still hoping for Johnson.
  18. I'm looking up info on Davey Johnson, and I honestly can't find material I really don't like. The only negatives I see are 1) He hasn't been a MLB manager since the 2000 season, 2) He's not the youngest person in the world (he'll be 66 in January)...but there have been managers a lot older than him. That's about it. In 14 years as a manager, he has had 2 losing seasons (his first year in Cincy, and his first year in LA), won a World Series, and made the playoffs on several occasions. He was fired after his second year in LA because of differences with the ownership/GM. Sounds like at the time, the owner and GM expected a lot from the team that wasn't possible. They had gone through 4 managers in 5 years, and had a broken club, all the way through the farm system...so it was them more than Davey. I haven't looked at his managerial style or how players respond to him, though. I'm thinking if he will leave Team USA, and will want to manage in the majors again, sign him up.
  19. Dwight was...awesome!!!
  20. Going to the gas station and it costing me $45 to fill my tank instead of $65.
  21. How come, in many fonts, the uppercase "i" looks like a lowercase "L"?
  22. In Madison, Wisconsin Active Sportswear and Pro Image at East Town had the gray wild card shirts. Pro Image didn't have a price on their shirts that I could find, and they were $28 after tax at W.A.S. Didn't see any hats, but I didn't look.
