  1. I know I may be only speaking for myself (and maybe some others), but I think we should plan this for down the road a little ways, maybe in July or sometime in August. Could we coordinate a game with BF.net Fan Fest? Personally, I can't do much on weekends from here until the very end of June. It is wedding season soon (friends as well as my own) as well as graduation madness for a lot of people, so May/June could be sort of rough. If we do the softball game before a Brewer game idea, I personally say do it in Milwaukee. We would all end up there anyways. Also, we could do a group of tickets and have a BF.net softball section.
  2. Weatherwise? Last weekend was pretty darned nice, unless you were right next to Lake Michigan.
  3. The worst part about this is Dessens will probably be in there for a couple innings. Great, the flood gates are wide open.
  4. I am not enjoying the train wreck known as Elmer Dessens.
  5. Hardy has had a rough day in the field today. How was that an error on Hardy though?
  6. Why was Fielder showing bunt on the first two pitches of his AB?
  7. This may be specific to only me, but I need to vent what's bugging me... People. Really general, I know. I work at a hotel, and tonight has been hell.... Diamond VIP's not getting their water and snack in their room People complaining that their room is a smoking room because the housekeeper accidentally put an ash tray in the room (and the room was non smoking, I checked) A person complaining because their computer was not hooking up to the wireless network (this woman thought that she was the only guest in the hotel hooking up to the internet at 11:15 PM, and insisted it was the network, not her computer, despite the fact she was the only person who called to complain that the internet wasn't working...and she also said that internet support people never help. I've called our support a few times, they are AWESOME). Then she proceeded to complain that we don't have a lobby computer. Well, if kids didn't download every virus/worm infested thing that they came across, we would still have a computer. The phone ringing pretty much nonstop for 8 hours, most of them wanting to confirm their reservations or make reservations for a night every hotel in Madison is sold out. People complain too much, yet here I am complaining about people. I guess I'm just venting. Maybe they don't complain too much, they just have too high expectations and are angered when those expectations are not met. I wish I could tell everyone who complains to me to stay at an Exel Inn or a Motel 6, then come back and see how nice our hotel really is. Sorry I had to share my personal misery at work tonight with everyone. It is customer service, and I know that everyday when I come to work (and it is a part time job, so I don't have to deal with it everyday), but even the most level-headed person get's upset and annoyed every once in a while. Ok, I feel a bit better.
  8. Greg Aquino is my new whipping boy. I didn't have one up until this point, but throwing 10 straight balls (though 2 were intentional) is enough for me, not to mention the base clearing double.
  9. I really wish, that just once, the Brewers made a pitcher making his first major league start look like he's making his first major league start instead of looking like the ace of the staff. What kind of line up can we expect from Yost tonight? He's had a couple interesting line ups the past few games.
  10. How about listing the games for each series with start times? This could go under the Scoreboard. So right now, you would have the first 2 Brewer/Cub games with the final score with tomorrow's game and start time below. Yes, we should know the start times, being we are all diehard fans, but honestly, I had no idea today's game started at noon.
  11. I've got a couple. My first one is directed to those who schedule games. Why on Earth did they schedule the Cubs to play in Milwaukee before they had their own opening day at Chewing Gum Field? Friday was like opening day to Cubs fans, and they got a bobblehead out of the deal (which was pretty dumb on the Brewers part to give away a bobblehead at that game in the first place). Many Brewer fans who wanted a bobblehead lost out so a Cubs fan can sell it on Ebay. I realize I should be thankful that the Brewers have had 3 sell outs (I think today was a sell out) the first week of the season. However, the games vs the Cubs would sell out anyways. Not only that, I was happy to see over 20,000 in attendence for the second and third games against the Dodgers, so crowds may have been alright this weekend. Next vent goes to Carlos Zambrano. In the 4th, after he gave up a run, the Brewers managed to get runners on 1st and 3rd with two outs. Zambrano gets Jenkins to strike out, again, to end the inning. Why did he have to start yelling and screaming? With 2 outs in an inning, facing a guy who at best is a .275 career hitter...expect to get him out. Chances are you will get him out. Chances are you will get anyone out who comes up at that point. If he had runners at the corners with no outs and managed to get out of the inning unscathed, I could understand getting a little excited. But not with 2 outs and Jenkins making the 3rd out. My final vent goes to the Brewer hitters, especially Bill Hall and Johnny Estrada. Please, please start laying off that first pitch. There was an inning today where Zambrano recorded 2 outs on 2 pitches. Make the opposing pitcher work to get you out. I will say, it hasn't hurt Estrada too much yet, put patience is a virtue, and the Brewers are not looking virtuous early on.
  12. I thought they are platooning Mench and Jenkins because Jenkins CAN'T hit left handed pitching, yet he is the first off the bench? Weeks and Fielder have looked horrible in this game and in the first week in general.
  13. Last year, the Webb's downtown Milwaukee wouldn't honor the 6-for-5 deal. The Brewers scored 6 or 7 runs one game, went down there a little after midnight, and wouldn't give us the deal. We were a little peeved.
  14. The term "Big Ben" being used for every sports player named Ben. ESPN uses this term all the time, and it becomes impossible to figure out which Ben they are referring to. They had an article about "Big Ben" being sick and had to sit out. I assumed Ben Roethlisburger, but it was Ben Wallace. Then Big Ben pitched a 2 hit complete game on opening day. Enough with the Big Ben!
  15. And you're venting because of this? I took that as a good thing, not something to vent about.
  16. Plus spellcheck won't catch "Sexton". Honestly, if someone mis-spells a couple times, I don't care. Mis-spellings like Grafanino or Vilanueva don't bother me. Getting a guy's name completely wrong, such as Richie Weeks or Greg Gross is unacceptable. There have been times where I have used an abbreviation (did I spell that word correctly?) instead of typing out the entire name just so I won't get chastized. I don't think people should be ripped on for missing a letter in a word, or putting the wrong letter in (like putting an i when you should have put an e for a sound in a word).
  17. I thought there were funny parts, but not the best episode they've had. Actually really felt bad for Pam. I didn't quite get Dwight's comforting of her. I loved Jim talking into the recorder. That whole sequence was pretty funny. Phyllis: "I can't find a whole pig anywhere." Angela: "Have you tried the petting zoo?"
  18. Yes! I'd say a majority of social studies is 'readin' and 'riting, 2 of the 3 R's. 'Rithmatic may be a bit more difficult. A main reason why I like to study social studies is because I like to write. I don't write stories, but I love doing research and writing on that research, which very strongly utilizes 2 of the 3 R's. When I student taught, I really stressed writing and research, because they are very important skills to develop. I hope I helped my 90 students learn to read better. ----- Continued here: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=30514
  19. I'm not trying to make a political statement here (because I love this thread and don't want to see it locked), but as a want-to-be educator, No Child Left Behind bugs me. I thought science was supposed to be on the test. I thought one of the things of NCLB was to increase student knowledge in science, math and reading. I thought standards were created for those subjects. The original law has no mention of social studies, English (literature), any of the arts, tech ed, phy ed or foreign language. So what places are seeing is an increase in time learning science in math, while lessening the requirements for how much time a student studies everything else. This hurts me as an aspiring social studies teacher. There are so many licensed SS teachers without jobs right now because SS is not considered that important right now. I believe the law is up for renewal/revision soon, so maybe some other subjects will get added.
  20. Our neighbors just got a new surround sound theatre system for their apartment. Now, all we hear is a thunderous roar of loud movies and music, no matter what room we are in in our own apartment. In situations like this, should we talk to them directly, or go through the building manager?
  21. Principessa and TooLiveBrew...check your ezInboxes...I sent you messages that don't have anything to do with what is bugging me...though it does bug me that our apartment building doesn't get the Wisconsin feed of FSN. Can't watch Badger hockey either. Quite annoying.
  22. Yes...Awesome place to live. Looks like something that was bugging me is no longer bugging me. 92.1 in Madison will no longer become a Fox Sports affiliate. Clear Channel decided to keep the programming the way it was. However, I did not realize 100.5 FM was a sports radio station in Madison. Goes to show how well they advertise that station. Currently, the amount of presents we have to stuff into the car is bugging me. I have no idea how we are going to get everything in the car without ruining the wrapping.
  23. This comes from my post regarding winter meeting locations... The new Great Dane in Madison not able to serve Great Dane beer. The Great Dane is my favorite restaurant in town. I love their food and it's very affordable. However, no trip to the Dane is complete without one of their awesome beers. For me, it's either a German Pils or a Crop Circle Wheat. When I found out the Dane was opening a third location, I was excited (unlike a lot of other Madisonians). I figured, less crowds at the downtown location. As of now, I have no intent to ever step foot in the new Dane (a lot of it has to do with the fact I live next to the downtown one, but if I move...). This is and isn't the Dane's fault. It isn't their fault because there is a state law that is wayyyy outdated and needs to be modified. It is the Tied House law. A brewery cannot sell their own beer exclusively at more than 2 locations. It is their fault, however, for building a Dane knowing they could not sell their beer. For those of you who are not from the Madison area, you could probably care less...but it is bugging me none the less.
  24. If the Great Dane is chosen as the destiation of choice, I would personally say go to either the downtown or Fitchburg location. Part of what makes the Great Dane what it is, in my opinion, is their beer, and they can't sell it at the Hilldale location yet. Hopefully that law will change soon. I really enjoy their beer, and I'm sure having a beer or two would be a part of any winter meeting. While I like the downtown location better (and I live literally right next door to it), the Fitchburg location is easier to find for people unfamiliar with Madison and for the most part, easier to get to. Another option would be the Come Back Inn right downtown. It's fairly easy to get to and is fairly large and has plenty of parking.
  25. The length of commercial breaks on sports talk radio. I listen to Mike and Mike on my way to work and Jim Rome on the way home (yeah, I work early). The drive takes me about 15 minutes. Last week, there was a morning where I heard 5 minutes of content during the Mike and Mike show, 10 minutes of commercials. Along the sports talk radio line...the fact that Madison is getting another sports talk radio station. We already have 1070 AM, soon we are getting 92.1 FM as well. Milwaukee can hardly support 2 sports talk radio stations. How can Madison support 2? Yeah, people can talk about the Badgers, but man...even the most die hard fans can't listen to Badger talk constantly.
