  1. Well, that's ok and all.... just following trends around the game. Yet, if you really want to address this issue for MILLER PARK even more fairly and accurately, more danger to foul balls is found in the second deck behind the plate. I have been saying it for years. Take the tour and you will see several holes in walls in the press room and dents in the back wall of the 2nd deck. Some real heaters come back nightly. The area is closer to the plate than down the lines and the reaction time is shorter because of it. Raise the netting behind the plate. The must is raising the bar in the Loge Bleachers first row (or make it clear plastic or glass). A tall man could easily reach over for a toss up or hit ball and be nudged over the edge. Crazy dangerous when you consider the distance above the playing surface... almost certain death if you fall. Puting up a net below it or even taking out the first row bench seems logical.
  2. Tons of baseball fans in Miami? Ehh. New ballpark, comfy setting with retractable roof.... idk.
  3. A Computerized zone, with ump present, will give a vibration signal to home plate ump if ball or strike. This has to be what is next. No ump at home can't be an alternative, since that base still technically needs to be called with plays at the plate. Once this is in place, it'll be like replay.... here to stay. Didn't a summer league independent league try this?
  4. It has always been this way, though. It doesn't make it right, but human error used to be a part of the game. With all the technology and shown bad calls, it is just revealing the poor calls. I don't think the umps are worse now than they were 10, 20, or 50 years ago.
  5. ... Unless you look at statistical facts, which show he’s not. Offensively? Sure. 100% fair. But overall? Nope. Simply dismissing the facts-based point others are making doesn’t make your view factually accurate in this case. Again, why not just sub Santana in the 7th if winning? Bring in the glove then. With our OF always needing another bat in there with someone hurt, it makes sense to put a .800 OPS guy out there, especially against any lefty. Moose or Shaw at 2B was weird and questionable at first, then not. Playing Santana in the OF rotation and rotating him out of the winning game in 6th or 7th would have had the same effect. Not a Gamel or DS hater. Just makes no sense to compare stats career wise or even this year and say Gamel is slam dunk better. Just say Gamel is a better 4th outfielder, backup, or contact pinch hitter. I'd agree with you. Our unique situation calls for Santana playing much more, roughly 60 to 75% of the time with our fragile outfield and having to carry a load on offense. Why is our outfield fragile? Braun has stayed healthier than he has in years. Yelich and Cain have been nicked at times but nothing significant at all as far as missed time. Santana would start very rarely. Definitely not 60-75% of the time. A Braun/Yelich/Santana outfield would be a nightmare defensively, and that matters in innings 1-7 too. Six games in a week. Play for Braun twice, Yelich once, and Cain once. Then there are the times regularly when one of the three has been nicked up.

  8. I'm not saying Santana is a super overall option, just a better one than Gamel on this particular team. Gamel' bat has not been great, right? Really, Gamel could have been optioned real easily for Grisham, especially if CC would play Hernan in the OF.

  11. Didn't rip the trade.... didn't die on any hill (yet). I see value in having Domingo (and Aguilar) on this team against lefty starting and relief pitching off the bench. I see value with Gamel too, just not as much. Close trade, but I'd still rather have Santana and find other defensive guys/strategies to cover late innings. And if you can say the same 5 years from now, hooray for you, but there is a very real chance that Zavolas by himself outproduces Santana over the entirety of their careers. Hope he does...

  20. Could have added a no-hitter banner over the left field wall. Got a good chuckle out of this one! Right, cuz the team celebrates personal accomplishments with banners over the left field wall... bluish. Great attempt.
  21. To have a terrible defensive player in the OF for 8 innings instead of 9? It's not all about dingers anymore. Counting stats are great, but the reality is that Santana has eroded most of his offensive value so far this year by 'playing' his bat. Maybe 6 or 7 innings instead of 9.... yeah.

Still better than Gamel..... would like to stick his bat in the cleanup spot against lefties we cannot seem to hit. For all the times I've been told "small sample size" when looking at stats, I'll flip it and say the same to those who want Gamel in there now against a lefty rather than Santana.
