  1. The deadline came and went, leaving fans underwhelmed. We'll see how the added depth in the pen helps down the stretch. Underwhelmed though, yes, and disturbing for a number of reasons... 1. No more starting pitching picked up.. we would have been thrilled with a couple Roarks or guys hanging on as 5th starters... completely nuts this couldn't happen. Not costly (compared to other prospect packages for #5 type starters) in late July. 2. Not a fan of giving up young Dubon and middle infield depth when Arcia, Saladino, Perez, etc. are struggling.. relief pitching strengthened a little by hurting another area. 3. Huge overlook by media....Faria and Ray are out of options next year! Hader, Jeffress, Knebel, Wahle, Claudio, Farai, Ray... who is going to be optioned back and forth next year? Troublesome. This doesn't help next year's group's depth much (as is) because of lack of some guy's optioning and the risk of losing them! 4. A bad pattern is going on here. We gave Gennett away (.300 vs righties), traded Khris Davis for a lottery ticket, God bless him, catcher. We now have traded Santana and Aguilar, not at their peak but quite honestly the opposite... close to their worse. Our depth at 1B gets worse long term (Shaw at 3B next year, Thames one more year, Braun one more year). We are also worse against lefties, not being able to put out as of big of right-handed bat threats. Overall, we might be slightly better in the bullpen this year. Yet, we didn't get better for the long term with no Aguilar and Dubon. We have two of these four pitchers for next year, but neither has options left next year! Quite possibly the worst Deadline in the history of the franchise considering we signed two guys in Moose and Grandal to big one year contracts, signaling to the fan base that we are playoff bound. Now, we are unable to even pick up bad teams' #4 or #5 starters to fill in the gap for the rest of the season.
  2. I can only find 4 games plus yesterday where Pomeranz was a reliever, but he was dynamite in those five games. Very small sample, but very encouraging for next year if they re-sign him. Jeffress is scheduled to make $4.3M next year and the way he's pitched, I think Stearns lets him walk. Faria, Black, D. Williams and maybe Nelson could easily take his place if Wahl and Knebel come back healthy. Jeffress was hurt earlier this year... and by the time he was back, Knebel and Wahl were on the DL for the season. I'd give him a mulligan for the year - given his past performance, especially with the Crew. I'd be more inclined to non-tender Nelson on a major-league deal, but bring him back with a minor-league deal with a NRI if I had to choose. The Crew really should have optioned Nelson and kept him in AAA all year. No way you can blame them for trying to bring him up when they did.... we would be up in arms if they didn't knowing how seemingly every pitcher on our staff has struggled.
  3. Everyone knows it looks really bad right now. We have no starters that can get a quality start! And if we can, it is a gamble in the pen. Stranger things have happened, I guess, but no one expects the playoffs anymore. Huge let down at the deadline too. Worst farm system in baseball before Dubon trade. Terrible lineup against lefties, couldn't even help at the deadline with this.... pretty much over barring s miraculous turnaround.... which can happen I baseball. The offense needs to be a top 5 in all of baseball.
  4. Santana has his flaws, but his bat still plays. He's in his prime over the next few years. I wouldn't have traded him (or Aguilar) when they were at the low valley of their worth.
  5. Hard to quantify......in any game a crucial play that isn't made could be the difference......or not......I just don't think they are going to be comfortable double switching without a true backup SS.......but we will see. I'm all for starting Moose at SS and Shaw at 3B. Get a lead and make defensive changes late.
  6. How questionable is it then that no starting pitching as added at the deadline?
  7. This is troublesome to me.... also overlooked. Having two RP without options (next year) in the back of the pen? What is wrong with this picture?
  8. The ten bucks might be a monthly cancellation fee.... hope not. I have DISH too, and I'll be making the call next week.
  9. I initially thought DirectTV was an option, but their package with FSN is around $135 per month (avg) for a two year deal.
  10. I've literally not seen anyone say he's expected to do that. You just keep pretending everybody is. Here, here... Let's just say he is deserving to play quite a bit while our offense is struggling. He gets a chance, and if he is Hiura's sequel, we run with it.
  11. Best line-up RIGHT NOW Hiura 2B Yelich RF Moose SS Braun LF Grandal C Thames 1B Grisham CF Shaw 3B P *Put Hiura and Yelich together EARLY in the lineup and let's get a LEAD for a change!!! *Start Moose at SS and give it a shot. *Play Grisham and give Cain some time off for now. He isn't hitting. *Bring in Arcia or Cain as one of the first pinch hitters for the SP-leave him in if we have the lead for their defense. Pull Shaw or Grisham for the new pitcher. Move Moose to 3B. * Lean on our new relievers and Hader to get a win!
  12. Does our season rest on how well this guy plays? Maybe not, more likely the pitching. Yet, if he is Hiura, WOW!
  13. I will tell you what a needle mover is...To me it's a player or players that you acquire, that almost EVERYONE in baseball or associated with baseball in anyway can clearly see by acquiring that player you made your team better for a pennant race, or into the postseason. They are a proven commodity, very consistent in what they do and will make an impact down the stretch...some examples of this...when the Brewers acquired CC Sabathia=HUGE needle mover...do they make the playoffs without him?? Absolutely NOT. When they acquired Zach Greinke=HUGE needle mover. When those two took the mound every night, you felt like you had a legitimate chance to win every night they pitched. You knew they were VERY unlikely to get shelled(it happens to everyone). Examples this year...Greinke to the Stros...that pretty much locks them in as the clear American league favorites to at least get to the World Series, and now with that rotation can go head to head with the Dodgers, easily. Shane Greene to the Braves...model of consistency, night in night out when he closes. he comes in, almost always he will finish it out...=Needle movers. What the Brewers did today are NOT needle moving moves...they can be I guess, but..you hope/wish/cross your fingers that it can. Not enough of an impact for it to be a CLEAR upgrade for anything. especially the rotation. so REALISTICALLY, what did you want the Brewers to do today? We all were expecting one decent starting pitcher, right? That didn't happen.
  14. I find it extremely odd that Dubon did not get a shot earlier in the year to start at SS. We had an opportunity for him, but Saladino got the call. It was deserved too, but Saladino is more seen as a utility fill in, not our next SS. I have to assume that Dubon was atrade chip all along, not someone thought highly of at all. I am fine with this trade, although on paper it looks like we lost it. I mean, our prettynear top prospect for a FA to be lefty and a big arm lottery ticket? We'll see. Pitch wins games and we need pitching, though. This helps our pitching depth.
  15. Great news! Exciting if he is Yelich/Hiura light... Get on base!
  16. Or vice versa kinda...... some guys do more outside of the public eye and appear to be jerks on the field because they keep to themselves/aren't smiling whatever...
  17. He could be up in September for us and on the bench next year. With injuries to Braun/Cain/Yelich bound to happen, he plays next season.
  18. Greinke? Waaaaay too big of salary. How is that affordable for next season? This acquisition would be the only major move the team could do for NEXT season. Creative minds would have a major problem trying to get this thing accomplished to each side's satisfaction.
  19. -A few people are overacting on this thread, not most. - Rankins are full of meaning, just not accurate all the time... kinda like a weather forecast
  20. Yes, I can see this happening too. Why not? He wouldn't cost a prospect.
  21. Or 2B or 3B...
  22. [sarcasm]Let the kid’s play.[/sarcasm] Ha! Those MLB commercials are the worst teaching tools out there for kids on how to play the game with a little, just a little, dignity.
