  1. Being able to dish out big salaries to FA builds and holds your depth. So much of MLB is tied to how much money you can dish out to good/great players. It doesn't take a genius to sign players when you have the cash, and the crap shoot that the draft is levels the playing field there too. Oh, there is some skill to putting a team together, recognizing talent, and popping your personalized algorithm in to minor league stats, but money trumps all of it, from getting free agents to hiring guys with the talent to run a team. You are right that we do not have the luxury to have a deep farm and great roster at the same time....Rarely happens for baseball's bottom half. Stearns and Melvin know this better than most.
  2. No way..... his control is so hit or miss. He's looked great recently but it's a gamble to have him in any game with a lead, much less the 9th. He's middle relief and spot starter this season, IMO. I agree with the Hader useage, but they need another team's closer.
  3. Coaching matters.... Norman Dale showed us that in Hoosiers. Then again, without Jimmy, they do not sniff Butler Fieldhouse.
  4. Shaw will be just fine replacing Moose. Grandal has been a great offensive addition but I am questioning his part in how lousy our staff has become. Chase and Davies have both been better this year. Chacin far worse. Woodruff took a step although it started at the end of last year. Gonzalez has been fine. The bullpen obviously collapsed but I think it is clearly a lack of talent. Chase and Davies are two pitchers not deemed worthy of a playoff spot last year. Gonzo can maybe get 4 quality innings for you. Don't expect much from Chacin. Nothing playoff worthy. Bullpen poor. I like the offense with Hiura in the mix, but pitching wins and we don't have it.
  5. Trotting this crap rotation out there.... uhhh. Even on our best days, they go about 5 innings. Stearns is losing the division/playoffs each day he does nothing.
  6. Not a level playing field... we aren't designed to have continual success. Even with our highest salaries EVER this season, we are just average salaried compared to the rest of the league. The best we can hope for is two or three playoff years strung together, most likely followed by trading assets and rebuilding for a future run.
  7. Pretty Unreasonable.... he most likely is not pitching for us this season. Shoot for 2020. No it’s pretty reasonable injury wise for pitcher to return. Unreasonable aspect would be assuming a roster bubble guy, gets threw all his rehab outings and makes enough impact to be promoted. If he had a strong MLB track record like say a Jeffress.... he would be able to pitch by September and up. ACL injuries are very different for sport & position you play. ACL is needed for lateral movements. A basketball and football player place a large amount of stress on their ACLs. They need to change directions quickly and explosively. You can not thrive in those sports without a strong ACL. A pitcher on the other hand doesn’t place nearly as much stress on ACL in mechanics or or on bases. Most dangerous place is fielding the baseball for them. Obviously we are talking about him being a high leverage contributing factor in the playoff push, not mop up duty.
  8. How were you feeling when we went 5-1 in the 6 games prior to yesterday's loss? Like it was a desert mirage? Pretty good actually.... BUT THEN Woodruff was healthy and could theoretically headline pitch this team in Aug/Sept. and playoffs.
  9. I haven't felt this low on the Brewers since 2017 when they were giving games away during the second half. Winning yesterday would have helped, but we hardly have a starter that can pitch 6 innings! Waiting for news of big pitching pickups...
  10. Brewers saw the "Guns" post and decided to do something about it.... the timing of the response matches up well with the posts. Not sure if I'm serious...
  11. Brewers staff might have been watching the "Guns at Miller Park" post and decided to do something (minor) about it soon.
  12. Swarzak was incredible. Moose was ok. Schoop could not have been worse. Gio was good Cedeno was bad. Granderson was great. And this year’s additions will win the central. Moose was better than ok.... very good and clutch Cedeno was ok.
  13. He should...if he goes with what they have, they will quickly fall out of contention, with a loss in that spot and Chacin's spot almost guaranteed every week. We needed a starter or TWO before the injury!
  14. Pretty Unreasonable.... he most likely is not pitching for us this season. Shoot for 2020.
  15. Brewers 16-4 with Woodruff on mound, which puts them well under .500 with everybody else. As is, we cannot hope for more than playing .500 with no upgrades in the starting staff, and this would not sniff a Wild Card. Your move, DS.
  16. So they announce this today? Why? It's not policy until 2020. Is this their way of getting people to switch types of bags this year? Doing it a few days before the Cubs series to help flow?
  17. Oh, this is what the Brewers are working towards.... of course.
  18. Time to get someone RIGHT now...they will need them for the Cubs series. It's still an upgrade when Woody comes back though. They better NOT trot out one of their crap arms they have been for a game against the Cubs in place of Woody. Burnes and Shaw will be back. Sign me up.... maybe Perez too.
  19. We are hanging by a thread here with the staff.... uh Stearns, I know you don't want to give up much of anything for a starter (it seems), but um.. yeah.
  20. Burnes and Shaw will both have roles, albeit smaller than wanted, with the team THIS year. Both are too talented to not be with this group.
