    Why stop with just one DH? Why not go all the way! Raise the rosters to 40 and have offense, defensive, and designated pinch runners. 9 DHs, 9 defenders, and designated pinch runners. That way NO good hitter ever gets hurt running the bases, you always have your best 9 hitters in the game and your best 8 defenders along with a pitcher. Players' union would love it because there would be more jobs. Pitchers hit maybe twice a game in the NL. In the modern game there are every-day players who whiff 30-35% of their ABs and hit under .200 regularly. The uniqueness and strategy of the NL game far out weighs any argument for a DH. Yep. The arguments FOR a DH are the ones that don't make sense. That said, since it's way too late to eliminate the DH, I'd 100% be in favor of the DH only for the starting pitcher idea mentioned several times in this thread. This would be a slight concession to the traditionalists who really like the idea of starting pitchers and hate the idea of "bullpenning" as it would add incentive to leaving your starting pitcher in as long as possible in order to keep the DH in the game (or at least keep the DH from having to play the field). It keeps almost all the strategy of the NL AND pretty much eliminates the possibility of pitchers having to hit. If you add a roster spot it would almost guarantee a pitcher never hits except in the case of extra inning games. If the AL is too addicted to their current permanent use of the DH, just have this rule in the NL for a few years to see how it works. Sounds great.....

    I guess if it is an ultra homer offer, sure. I could be swayed if the money was low enough per year.

    He was arby eligible this year, and he is a FA after the 2021 season.

    No way....It would take a rare RP in this day of MLB to get a long term deal or extension beyond his arby years.

    He signs a "cheaper" deal tomorrow and that money is all his regardless of his performance. That's the incentive. He could blow out a knee, get hit in the face, have a car accident, you name it.... and his career, like many, could be cut short or dramatically changed. I agree that he probably would make more going year to year or waiting for a bigger offer. There is, however, incentive for him or anyone to sign a discounted deal in MLB where contracts are guaranteed.

    For me, he's a candidate to be dealt in a Kluber deal. I see myself sweetening the deal consistently to get Kluber. Ray, Knebel, Peralta?

    Of course, the trade and FA signing would have to make cents. Maybe 3 years for 45 for Kuechel and a package of Ray, Peralta, and Lutz.

Best not to plan on that happening yearly, be it Stearns or anyone else. That being said, I expect Miley and a better 2B option not named Hiura to be on the team come late March. Actually it happens all the time every single year and some teams always find ways to make guys overachieve. Cardinals did it for years. Overachieve? Sure. How could I go against that? Pitching like a #1 type? Rare. Both Chacin and Miley were doing that in the second half, and they needed both of their elite performances to not only win the division, but even just to make the playoffs.

    Personally I think it will be hard for Stearns to ever find a #1 starter or so to his liking price wise. He seems to be following the recent trend to spend big, whether that be draft/FA/trade, on positional players that are less risky investments and get pitching by more creative means. It is much easier to take a Chacin/Miley and tweak them to have success you would not expect. Hitters are more face value. What you see is what you get.     Unbelievably because I usually figure the Brewers will do less than more, I expect an upgrade in the IF and Miley back in the staff.

    Seems a little crazy to me to think that we are going into the season with Arcia OPS (576) and Perez (OPS 676) as our starting middle infielders with Spangeburg? as our reserve. We just picked up a top catcher for the year, yet we are going into the same year with a Brewers 2002 type middle IF? Obvious guy says we still get a guy that can cover more than one IF position on a one or even two year deal. Hiura is a comin we all know, but a little more certainty, depth, and insurance is needed at IF spots for this run this year. That leaves Marwin, Moose, and Harrison as options in FA. Perhaps a trade is coming.

    Yount questioned if he could play in today's game, batting against upper 90's mph heat daily. As a kid in the 80's, I remember hearing that a hard thrower was in the 90's...... a liltle different than today when soft tossers are in the low 90's.

    A sellout this year? Maybe it is time to have a two day convention. Add Saturday to the mix. I'm sure area hotels could get on board with that. Saturday could focus on prospects and former player, even if it was from 9 to 2. Just a thought....

    Not sure Grandal did the wisest thing, moneywise. He really needs to have a good season just to pretty much have the same type of offers he received this year. Do so so and the offers will not be there next year either, kinda like Lucroy.

    My family enjoys mini golf, yet we'd like a few more indoor options within the state during the winter months. From what we can gather, the only indoor options are in the Dells and Madison. Does anyone have other indoor options in the state? Also, our Mt. Rushmore mini golf options in the state would be Pirate's Cove in the Dells, Vitense Golfland in Madison, Action Territory in Kenosha, and The Red Putter in Door County.
