  1. Probably too risky anyways for a small market..... it's one thing to get a pitcher with a proven MLB track record. It's entirely another to throw big money for multiple years at a talent who hasn't showed he can cut it.
  2. Thames has to be a part of this deal if it is going down.
  3. After thinking about it more, there is no reason to give him an extension now. Do we really think he is going to improve on these past two years? I'm only for an extension if these next three years are at a nice discount and the years in free agency are Club options.
  4. Same here. I like the added versatility that he brings. Right...... he can sit anywhere he wants. Beware, be wary, or be weary.
  5. Rodgers sat last season even though he played week before (Week 16) to its conclusion. So he quit on his team last season? Funny how the narrative changes from year to year, yet the situation is relatively the same. Glad he wants to play and all that..... management simply should go with their young guys.
  6. Not sure why you are thanking these players..... you are RIGHT! They should want to keep playing if they can. Agree wholeheartedly! Yet, it is management's role here, even more so than coach, to see the bigger picture and be the voice of reason and sit some vets on the books for next year. Unlike you, I want our backups and young guys to get it done in the finale.
  7. Sitting Rodgers is a slam dunk. Sitting other regulars or at least freely subbing them for other young players with the team next year is also the obvious play.
  8. Without looking up numbers, guessing this would add 16-17 million to the payroll. If we could get the right match (Not sure this it), I'd blow a silo and field of the farm up for a #2 SP for three years, a starting 2B/IF that could hit #2 for two years, and an all star quality veteran C with 4 years of control. As long as we are sparing/spreading out who is traded (not both of Peralta and Burnes), we could really put ourselves in a nice spot. Not sure there are any great matches...not high on Castro and Urena.
  9. And the Brewers gave it away for nothing Because no team was willing to offer anything of value after Scooter was one of the worst regulars in MLB for two straight seasons. Still.... he is right. Gave it away for nothing.
  10. Whole month? Just the last two weeks. We had a shot until we lost to the Bears.
  11. Rodgers still isn't 100% healthy. No debate there, right? You are rolling the dice here with his 2019 when they are legit title contenders again. Of course, the coach wants him playing. He wants the job in 2019. This is when Murphy should be pulling another overreach and sit Rodgers down if the coach is thinking about his own hide. Why stop now? Also, Rodgers could have played in the final game last year....... but didn't. Why? Health concerns and because primarily, we were out of playoff contention. Where were all these heartfelt speeches for quitting on the team then? It made perfect sense last year to sit him ( and others) for the last game. It would make sense this year too. Let the young guys and backups get their shot. Quitting on the team? I think I could turn that right back on you with this: you don't trust your 2nd and 3rd string to get it done? Who is quitting on whom? Sorry all those in denial and all those millenials who don't know what it is like to not have the Pack in the playoffs. This is what is called for when the playoffs are out of reach. It's like another preseason game. Let's see what some of these other guys have or don't have during actual NFL game competition. Going same ol, same ol, is a wasted opportunity to see some young, 2019 contracted players play a bit more and an unexcuseable NEEDLESS RISK to harm key players for 2019 and our Super Bowl hopes. Get a clue, Green Bay.
  12. I tend to feel we can get Lowrie for two years at a premium cost (2yr for 25 mill). We could get the best bat on the market at our weakest position. When Hiura is ready, plug him in. Lowrie could play some 2B, SS, or 3B and serves as insurance to injury or poor play. Shaw could play some 1B or 2B. If they feel Lowrie is legit, AND they've kicked all tires and have nothing else on the FA front burner for the rotation or C, this becomes a great way to get immediate production at a weak spot for a pennant chasing team.
  13. Broxton and Santana for Gamel, then?
  14. Why many starters were going last week I'll never know...kinda like leaving your 4th grade basketball starters in when down (or up) by 20 in the 4th quarter. Actually, it's worse because we are talking about a violent game where key cogs could be wiped out for the following year on a wrong move of the knee. Murphy letting it go is crazy caving to Rodgers desire to play. Get a clue.
  15. Who is playing in the OF vs lefties? Braun, Yelich, Cain. Perez when Braun is hurt. Is Broxton on this team?
  16. I'm with you on maybe Shaw... If we could get three years for 25 million with a couple of Club options for 9 or 10, that would interest me. He could deliver a power lefty bat and uniquely play 3B, 2B, or 1B for the next few years.
  17. Right now, we have five(?) arbitration eligible guys (Shaw, Knebel, Guerra, Davies, and Pina) on the team. Do we see DS offering any long term deals? I think all have three years of team control left (not sure of Guerra, actually).
  18. Who is playing in the OF vs lefties?
  19. if he is looking for playing time and being on a contender, the Brewers look as good as anyone. If it is about being in a large market or somewhere warm, not so much. Yet, Denver and Toronto do not bring up images of sunshine or big time markets..... we have a shot.
  20. Seems like they are selling low on Santana.... Santana indeed had a spot on the team this season. Cain and Braun should be getting off days or on the DL for a minimum of half the season, and his 4th bat was some nice insurance, especially with the power righty bat against lefties. I know little about Gamel, other than the stats shown in this thread. I like that he makes more contact. Just otherwise seems underwhelming.
  21. Salary relief would be worth it. First base is covered by several others.
  22. A big leap of faith
  23. She liked milk with Pepsi, if I recall correctly. I remember Happy Days having a pregame reunion on field In Like 2007 or so.... Potsie sang the National anthem..... not sure if she attended or not. It was when Fonzi's statue was put up downtown.
  24. Braun is the backup, you'd have to believe, in 2019. Shaw and Hernan can play there too. Somewhat surprised, not shocked though, if he is on the team for opening day.
  25. We wouldn't be getting much back for Thames..... if someone takes on his contract, that would be enough to send him elsewhere.
