  1. Brewers are giving up too much.... Still believe that Santana is a part of the near future for this team.
  2. Lots of good infielders available.... won't need to send top prospects away for an above avg talent.
  3. This. Not many balls picked up bare handed are errors. Can you think of any off hand? The question is.... does fielding it with a hand or glove make a difference in terms of an error? For instance, if a slow tapper to the third baseman is fielded with his bare hand and missed, it is always a hit. If he tries to glove the same ball instead and it goes off the side of his glove, he might get an error.
  4. Boone Logan too then...it's not good for the soul. Yet you make excuses for Villar?
  5. Sogard 97 ABs... that's less than 100. Comes out to a little more than 1 a game. I take last year's stats into account for all players, not just Sogard, especially when we aren't at the break yet. He had more walks than Ks in 2017, had an above avg LD last year and this year, and his OBP of .397 in 2017 was impressive, hot streak withstanding. CC subbed Sogard often for defensive purposes. Villar's lack of making good contact skews those P/PA numbers.
  6. womp. womp. He was a negative player for the Brewers and got paid handsomely for it. It is his own doing that he’s no longer a Brewer by not performing. I still liked Sogard on the team for reasons mentioned for the last week.... hoping he could have had a few more opportunities this season, but I understand the uphill battle for guys like him and the nature of the game to produce lately. I was glad/relieved when Yost got fired in 2008. I still believe that they don't get in the playoffs without the switch at manager. Yet, there was something human there that said not to celebrate it. He was a player for the team. He was the manager for almost 6 years. I have wanted Villar gone since 2016 for different reason mentioned, as well. Yet to joy in the day it happens.... ehh, I hope to be more excited for what they have.
  7. #1 - Saladino is a better hitter and defender than Sogard. Saladino makes Sogard pointless. #2 - No one is celebrating Sogard the human losing his job. #3 - He is getting a $2.3 million dollar severance. He'll be okay. You make it sound like his factory got shut down and he's got to come home and figure out how to make the next mortgage payment. #2 + #3... he isn't losing his job. He's free to accept an assignment to AAA like he did the last time he was DFA'd. And if he plays well he could earn his way back to the 25-man. Optioned last time....
  8. Sogard DFA, Villar leading off.... Sad news. More wise middle infield decisions apparently. Sogard needed to hit, granted, and he needed to impress, but his at bats were not regular or often.. not even 100. I liked his solid contact, ability to work an at bat, and solid d. His skill set was unique to our K/power/questionable defensive players. I thought he made a solid backup and pinch hitter, still. He had his own injury issues not so long ago and I thought he had something left now healthy. Just wasn't impressing enough this year when given limited at bats. Glad Orf is getting a shot, though, and hopes are high that we can have a better unit there second half. Sad to see a couple of brewerfan.net posters' celebrations of a Brewer likely getting cut and losing a job.... class acts. Even I wouldn't hope that for these posters. Great for these human beings to lose their jobs? Uncalled for by any Brewers fan.
  9. The Brewers are 10-7 against the AL Central. Not exactly beating up on them. They have the best record in the NL. I'm personally not scared of anyone and I'm sure the guys aren't either. Keep playing well and the playoffs should be in sight. 10/17 = .588 = 94 wins 68 losses
  10. We often have had a below avg fielder in a position, but we want his bat to play. Why not Shaw (or Braun) at 2B for a similar reason? Get a lead and then switch positions-throw a better glove in. If behind, we still have a better lineup to catch up. With all the shifting and with all the times there isn't a runner at 1B, there is a only a small percentage of time when Shaw would have to turn 2. When those times happen, play him closer to the bag so he doesn't have to make as an athletic play to turn two. If Miller can play 2B, so can Shaw. He doesn't' need to play there daily, but once or twice a week seems right. Same thing for Aguilar at 3B.
  11. Can you trust the health though? Probably not but I can't imagine he would cost much of anything. I would rather target a difference maker versus a ho-hum addition. He can't be that motivated now with the SoX and Yanks in the playoffs basically by July. A move would do him good, if healthy. I could part with a #10-20 prospect for him.
  12. Happy 4th, everyone... let's all be thankful for the freedoms we have, especially here when we want to voice concerns about backup infielders- yes, Miller is a backup still. Men from the WWII era would be shaking their heads at the way we spend some of our time.
  13. You definitely could be right and I do agree that Hiura might be the guy already. Sogard could be better than Villar, right Brew4U, if given the chance? What are your view on Sogood, oh I mean, Sogard? Really, Villar is the one getting at bats regularly. The others get sporadic scraps.
  14. Probably didn’t help being jacked around. Yes, it could be one of the factors. Dismissing that seems odd. Ridiculous... longest leash given for any Brewer. In 2017, The team played bad Villar regularly in the leadoff spot for 5 months before finally realizing that he needed to sit. In 2018, the team still wants him to be 2016 Villar, has around 250 PA, and still gets the most time at the position. Unfair treatment to Villar rants are like complaining Votto gets unfair treatment with balls and strikes.
  15. Sogard doesn't even have 100 at bats.... that's about an AB a game. These many middle IF moves are the result of Arcia and Villar, primarily. They are the ones starting and playing in these games and not doing much. We are now scrambling for something, anything, even a Choi trade, to get numbers like Sogard's last season.
  16. CC replaced Miller twice this week for defensive purposes. Sogard replaced him. Yet Miller is way better than Sogard now? This just shows that their value is similar now. I don't think DS is using any of Miller's stats from his rookie year when looking at his current value. So for all those comparing entire careers from player to player, that is kind of like looking at Perez's SB numbers from 2016 and expecting some more of that soon.
  17. The same reason that Ivan DeJesus was basically never called up last year. OK, I promise to everyone else on the thread that I will not perpetuate this one. If a player plays good ball, the player deserves a shot at a promotion eventually. Orf is getting a shot..... maybe a short and uneventful one, but one nonetheless.
  18. Great to see a guy getting promoted for a special season at AAA...... questionable why he didn't get the call in early May when he was raking ridiculously.
  19. Miller hit .201 last season, and I'm not confident at all that he can sustain anything. Throw in the weakfish glove and he's another underwhelming choice.
  20. Sogard had a better season than all, but Arcia, last season. Yet, he isn't even in the group? I'm game.....This year alone, so far, just based on stats.... Saladino and Miller would be at the top. Villar and Perez would be in the middle. Sogard and Arcia would be at the bottom. Overall, pretty much all in the same boat for me because of limited stats for Saladino and Miller (Villar has 232 ABs somehow this season), defensive abilities, PH, LD%, and taking into account their recent past. That being said, I want Arcia on the team down the stretch for his defense alone, even if it is off the bench in the 8th and 9th. I'm ok with giving ABs to Miller and/or Saladino in July. I just don't think they are the ultimate answer to our middle IF problems or that much different to what we have already. That's why I'd be alright with trying Orf, Hiura, or making a trade. I hope someone, anyone, can make that bottom of the order and middle of the field better..... soon.
  21. Agreed. Merrifield for Ray and Villar? Thor for Hiura, Burnes, and Santana, Woodruff, and a flier
  22. Still going with this, ok..... I'm not out to prove that Sogard is a better career player than Miller. I'm saying he is in the same category of player now. Both are backup middle IFs clinging to the MLB. Miller was traded for Choi, right? Wasn't Choi a borderline MLB player? Miller is better this season and overall with stats. I believe I agreed with you. You also can't talk outlier seasons when defending Miller, of all people. 2016. Sogard was better last season overall and is doing well in the PH role, especially late in games. Sogard is better defensively..... still now. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who believes this... oh yeah, I believe CC believes this because of the Sogard for Miller substitutions this week to protect late inning leads. Biggie. You can't be THAT much better overall than another backup eh middle IF when the ol manager needs to replace you defensively for the other. Sorry, but you need that one for the win. Finally, and I'm going to keep saying this in different ways, I hope a Miller, Saladino, Sogard, or even my bud Villar gets hot over the next week or two before the break. I really just want the team to do well, get in the playoffs, and win. Who does what, when or where, just details. I just group all these guys in the same category with their own strengths and weaknesses, and I think that most Brewers fans do the same.
