  1. Just a crazy idea. Thinking the Cubs would jump at saving a little dough. Bradley would definitley be motivated to make the Cubs and their fans eat crow. A switch hitter behind Prince next year would be great too. We could get a great hitter for our lineup, cheap!
  2. I just don't get the love for Mike Cameron here. Everyone goes on and on about what a great player he is, but I don't see it. I'll give you that he's a good centerfielder, but he strikes out way too much for my tastes. Going further, he has driven in 12 runs since the 4th of July. In seven weeks of playing almost everyday, that is pathetic (yes, I know that many of you think that RBI's are a worthless stat). If my recollection is correct, he disappeared in a very similar way last season. In my opinion, he is not worth anywhere near $10 million a year, and the only way that I'd take him back is at a significant pay cut. He's a great centerfielder. He makes tough catches look easy. He's the opposite of Jim Edmonds. His defense is worth about 5million alone. And batting anyone else in the lineup other than Cam, Braun and McGehee behind Prince would mean 200 walks in a season. Plus, Braun and Prince have driven in a ton of runs in front of Cameron. When the bases are clean most of the time you get to the plate, it's hard to drive in runs. That's why only one leadoff man has driven in 100 runs in the history of the MLB. Plus, Cam isn't gonna see a ton of good pitches with Catalanotto, Kendall, and sometimes the pitcher hitting behind him. Hall goes out and gets two hits and now he's gonna outperform many of the players in Milwaukee? Gimme a break. I heard nobody complaining when he was sitting on the bench here every single night . None. We got 1.75? million for the 25th man on our roster.
  3. I cannot believe anybody thinks Melvin did wrong here. He got 1.3 million for a guy that hasn't produced in 3 years. The equivalent would've been getting 1.3million for Jeffrey Hammonds before the last year of his contract. There has always been a glimmer of hope that Billy would get his stroke back. After one bad year, I could understand that. But after three? It was never going to happen here, because he would never get the atbats here. If Melvin could've gotten more, Hall would have been dealt long before any trade deadline. He got the most he could for Billy. Good deal.
  4. How about Hall, Suppan, and Hardy for Arroyo, Harang, and Tavares?? Not saying Tavares would start for us next year, but he isn't a bad fourth outfielder. And with Cameron coming off the books, we still could signa free agent for the outfield. Yo Harang Bush Parra Arroyo
  5. Considering the position he plays, he is easily the best player in baseball. But, watch Jeter win MVP with 7 other guys on that team making 10mil+. Makes me sick.
  6. I'm not against this, depending on what we would get back. Teams that could use Gamel: Toronto- halladay Baltimore- a ton of young pitching White Sox- danks or floyd Twins- Blackburn, Slowey, or Liriano Indians Oakland Seattle Phillies- a stocked minor league staff to look at Astros San Fran- Sanchez or Cain??? LA- tons of relief pitching Colorado There is quite a bit of young pitching that could be available for Gamel. Add JJ and you can possibly get a front end starter.
  7. I really believe the Brewers need to put Kendall on the bench and give Rivera an audition. Let him play five times a week. He cannot be any worse than Kendall has been lately. I would go even further and say maybe Salome should get the other game or two every week. Last year we could say Kendall was good for the staff and threw the ball well. He has been terrible throwing this year, and our staff isn't exactly lighting the world on fire. Not saying that's his fault, but it can't get much worse.
  8. I would take Dye over Cameron in a heartbeat. Not even close. Put Dye behind Prince and off you go. .290/25/110 is a pretty solid year. A lot better than .240/22/70
  9. I wouldn't offer Kendall anything. He is not good. If our pitching is this bad, we don't need a catcher that "calls a good game". We certainly don't need a .230 hitting catcher that is aging. Rivera is better now, IMO. A Rivera/Salome combo would be decent. I would like to see it. Another option is making a trade with Texas, if Salome isn't in the plans. They still have 4 catchers that could be ML starters right now. Saltalamaccia, Max Ramirez, Teagarden, and I can't remember the other. Any of them is a step up from what we have now.
  10. I completely disagree with the people that say Morgan isn't a good player. Some people just "get it" later than others. To say he and Gwynn are the same type of player is laughable. Gwynn is decent, but Morgan can dominate a game with his speed. This is the reason OPS isn't the ideal stat to go by. His speed in the outfield took away numerous shots to the gaps last week. He was terrific. Now he has approx 400 at bats right now and is hitting .300 with 30 steals. That would look good atop any lineup.
  11. Brandon Webb has one year and 8.5 million left on his contract. The DBacks can buy that year out for 2 million. If the DBacks are leaning toward buying Webb out, would it make sense to check and see if they would deal him before they buy him out? It would save Arizona two million and net them a couple of prospects. He could be great for us.
  12. Guessing Manny in left and Eithier is worse??? No way Braun and Hall are worse than Soriano and Bradley/Hoffpauir.
  13. Why wouldn't the Brewers make that trade now? Escobar is ready and waiting, and it would be better for chemistry purposes to get new guys familiar with each other this year. In Baltimore and Milwaukee. Put me on board with this. I would love one of Baltimore's young pitchers.
  14. This reeks of just putting a ineffective pitcher on the shelf. Giving younger guys a shot. If this were the NBA, this is what the Bucks do to vets to let the young guys play. Suppan has been a nightmare. Maybe it's time just to let him go.
  15. Maybe the whole deal is that teams will negotiate a 2 year deal with Washburn before any trade is announced. Who knows. I definitely would want to know if he's a rental before any deal is made. 2yr/20mil? With Cameron coming off the books, it seems possible.
  16. Just remember that Thatcher was more of a one hitter guy and Linebrink was thrown in the fire here.
  17. I'd take Harang if we could include salary going back. Hall rakes in their park.
  18. Reasons for Swindle coming up: 1. Adam Dunn 2. Nick Johnson 3. Nyjer Morgan Swindle was brought up before when the Reds came to town. Votto, Bruce, etc.
  19. Or Seattle, Florida, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Toronto, or NY Mets. There are alot of marketable bats that could help SF here. Branyan, Uggla, R.Hernandez, Rolen, etc.... To think that we are the only team on the fringe is wrong. Although it is a possibility it's us, I doubt it.
  20. What if Duchscherer only costs us a prospect in the 15-20 range? I would jump at that. Sure, he's been hurt. On the bright side, he'll be fresh come September.
  21. If Escobar is in the deal, then it will be a bigger deal than what is rumored. Also, Jack Z may think Hall has some value. Lord, I hope he does. How about Escobar and Hall for Washburn and Branyan??? I would love to see Branyan get some RF time for us.
  22. But it really doesn't matter if a guy is 21 or 27 here. If they are that good, they are gone in 6 years anyway.
  23. Our 2010 infield: Prince Rickie JJ McGehee Counsell (will be resigned) Gamel Escobar There will be trades made. If one isn't made soon, Melvin will get lowballed by gm's that know he has to make a deal. It's happened here before. Same thing is going on in Texas with their catching that's 4 deep. A deal should be made before July 31st. I have a feeling Bannister and Deutscherer will be Brewers.
  24. I say offer Gamel or Hardy, Lawrie, Scarpetta, and Brewer or Dykstra. If they say no, move on. Hardy could easily be flipped to the Red Sox for more prospects. The way Counsell is hitting this year, I have zero problem with a Prince, Lopez, Counsell, McGehee/Gamel infield for the rest of this year. I think offering that package is fair. Any more and it's too much. I do have one question though. Is making the playoffs this year less important than last year?? Just wondering because we would've made this trade for CC last year without thinking twice. If we made the playoffs 2 years in a row, we become even more attractive to free agents, IMO.
