  1. I'm still on the bandwagon that we move Hardy to second or third when Escobar comes up. Here are our 2010 options: 1. Fielder 1B, Weeks 2B, Escobar SS, Gamel 3B with Hardy traded 2. Gamel/Nelson 1B, Weeks 2B, Escobar SS, Hardy 3B with Fielder traded 3. Fielder 1B, Hardy 2B, Escobar SS, Gamel/Hall 3B with Weeks traded 4. Gamel 1B, Weeks 2B, Escobar SS, Hall 3B -If this option were to happen, a replacement for any of these guys could come in trades for Hardy and Fielder. There are many other options than this, I know. But, I like #3 the most, unless we get a great haul back in #2. Also, doesn't anyone think that Lars Anderson could be moved if the Sox acquired Fielder?? Or maybe by the time Anderson is ready, Ortiz is ready to hang em up?? I seem to be rambling here, but Fielder and Escobar for Bucholz, Delcarmen, and Ellsbury would be what I would offer. Hart or Gamel can play first with Hardy staying at short.
  2. *Got a Brewer Spring Jacket *Got the new Denis Leary Book (What I've read is terrific.) *Leather Jacket *Candy (duh) *Oklahoma Sooners sweatshirt.- I guess betting on them 10 straight weeks and winning 9 of em makes me a fan. And best of all, got to see my 3 year old daughter go berserk over all of her presents. Never saw a kid hug every gift she got. Even clothes.
  3. It is more than a bit scary down here in Janesville. I've never seen so many SUV's, boats, and Harleys for sale, cheap. If you're looking for one of those items, I'd suggest looking in the Janesville Gazette or gazetteextra.com. I own a bar down here that doesn't necessarily depend on GM. I have a lot of friends that are bar owners that depend on GM and Lear. I feel for them. Now they are talking about getting rid of the jobs bank. That would put a ton of UAW workers on unemployment, cutting their pay basically in half. Gonna get real ugly around here soon.
  4. I had a feeling DM would be looking for another outfielder if we traded for Cabrera. That trade should have been made. I also believe a Dunn signing makes a ton of sense. I think DM should go even longer than 3 or 4 years though. Hart and Hall to KC for Grienke makes sense too.
  5. If we don't spend 10mil per year on a pitcher, we may still add a left handed bat. I hear guys like Abreu and Dunn will have to lower their asking price. Would love to see a 2/20 for Abreu or a 4/40 for Dunn. Looper is a sinker pitcher. An essential quality for the NL Central ballparks.
  6. I think the couple is uninformed. That they may not have all the information on how bad of a person Hitler was. Not something to forget about. Ever. Could you imagine being this kid and learning about WWII when he's in school? The amount of embarrassment and ridicule he will receive is gonna cause the kid problems. Then he'll blame his parents and have trouble with them. The excuse that "nobody else will have his name" is laughable. There are a lot of names that nobody has. He could have name his kid "AMC Pacer", after the first car he owned, or something like that.
  7. I would turn that down too. Nice call DM. Although if it were Rafael Soriano or Gonzalez and Johnson, I'd have to rethink things.
  8. I really think Ben thinks he's under appreciated here. I'm sure he could hear people all over complaining about how "brittle" he is. But I do think we need to offer a 3 year deal here. Maybe 2 years with a player option. 2009- 12 million 2010- 14 million 2011- 14 million- with player option The only other way we acquire a frontline starter will be though trade. I just don't think we can afford losing Prince, Hardy, or Hart. People say they want Fielder gone, but who in the heck is gonna hit right handed pitching?
  9. A closer is #1 on the list IMO. If we have to spend 10 mil, so be it. I would rather have a RH closer, with the Cubs mainly a right handed team. If we have to trade Cameron, so be it.
  10. A .795 OPS for a guy making 15 mil?? Being a left handed power hitter in Yankee Stadium, 9 HR in 330+ AB's is unacceptable, especially for somebody in New York. Also, he was hurt for 40% of the season.
  11. It wouldn't suprise me to see the Yanks get Abreu back. They need help on offense. Seems strange to think that. Damon DH Cano 2B Jeter SS Arod 3B Matsui LF Swisher 1B Posada? Molina? Gardner CF Cabrera RF Matsui and Swisher were awful last year. They are a joke defensively. They need more than pitching.
  12. Nice attitude. The Orioles are looking to move players, we all know that. We would be getting some good players, and the Orioles would have to replace open spots at 2nd and third. Heck, Hall could play short for them. The Orioles would get a young starter and a young outfielder as well. They want to move money so the can get Teixeira. The Yankees get what they want too. They get Mike Cameron for Kennedy and Cabrera, which has been rumored. Evidently, I'm the only one who thinks this deal is pretty fair.
  13. Seems to me that the relationship between Sheets and the Brewers is pretty much on the rocks. He went to college with a friend of mine and said in August he was basically gone. That he couldn't wait to be a free agent. I'm beginning to think that we are gonna have to deal Corey Hart. I don't want to, but we need another arm and there is a glut of corner outfielders on the market. This is what I would do. 1. Trade Hart and Nelson to San Francisco for Matt Cain. pencil him in at slot 1B with Yo at 1A. 2. Sign Dunn and stick him in LF, moving Braun to RF. 3. 3 way trade: Brewers get Roberts, Sherill, Huff Yankees get Cameron and Suppan Orioles get Weeks, Hall, Ian Kennedy, and Melky Cabrera 4. Sign Mark Kotsay to a 2 yr deal. Roberts Kotsay Braun Fielder Huff Dunn Hardy Kendall Cain Yo Parra Bush McClung
  14. How about Hart and Weeks for Johnson and Mike Gonzalez?? We certainly need the relief help, and Gonzalez could be our closer next year. I like Kelly Johnson. He does nothing great, but everything very well.
  15. Kendall was great defensively. No doubt. But I think Hernandez's offensive numbers are a significant upgrade. My thoughts are that the Brewers may be thinking about puting Escobar at short and Hardy at third. There is no way that Kendall and Escobar hit 7th and 8th in 2009. So, maybe it's Hernandez and Escobar hitting 7th and 8th.
  16. I have a couple of points on this. 1. Melvin certainly isn't gonna say he's looking to trade JJ. That would make the offers less attractive, depending on the number of suitors. 2. Looks like he's willing to trade Weeks and/or Cameron for pitching help. 3. It's either CC or a FA closer. It will not be both.
  17. I don't want to see Hart playing CF at all. I like Dye but I would rather have Hart in RF than Dye. Hart is average defensively in RF what would that make him in CF? I wouldn't trade Hall straight up for Jenks. With the departure of Branyan 3B is really weak and if you trade Hall in this deal you are either relying on Gamel to be playing 3B next year or finding another platoon option for Lamb or someone else. I don't see how this improves the team. I would rather take my chances with Hoffman, Wood, or Fuentes than with Jenks. I still see the Crew getting Hank Blalock. Just the Melvin connection makes me think he'll be here.
  18. Because when supply > demand, the closers will come cheaper in trades too. The Brewers match up pretty well with the Sox. Maybe Cameron, Hall, and Nelson for Dye and Jenks??? The Sox are cutting payroll and need a centerfielder. Dye is locked up for a couple of years, but he still is decent and can play RF with Hart moving to center.
  19. I am a fan of the Maid-Rite, and I remember the Frost-top being in Janesville, back in the day. Tip: Nifty 50's in Madison, in a strip mall on Odana Road (a few blocks east of West Towne) has what are essentially Maid-Rite sandwiches. The owners parted ways with the franchise a few years ago, but their secret spice combination is still the original maid-rite recipe - Maid-Rite has since changed its formula a bit. Hawing, I found the recipe online with a simple google search and was very happy with the results.
  20. Everybody's license plate is a car phone number and can only be reached by people within a certain distance around that car.
  21. Sounds identical to my story. Except, it was Indianapolis and the Badgers Final Four Semifinal night. To this day, WC makes my skin crawl.
  22. I guess I have to be a little clearer than in my original post. Say the Brewers were to offer 6.5 million with another 1 million in a weight incentive (under 260), would an arbitrator find that more attractive than 6.5 million straight up? Could the Brewers actually sway an arbitrator with incentives for the player? If so, I would offer that to Prince, maybe even bump that incentive to 2 million. If 2 million dollars isn't enough to get him to get in shape, he needs to be traded this offseason.
  23. Still love Hardee's roast beef sandwiches. The rest of the menu is expensive crap, but the roast beef is great. Also, the Spicy chicken sandwich at Wendy's is great. I love a good Whopper, the key is to not put the lettuce and tomato on til after the burger is ordered. But, living in Southern Wisconsin in the early 80's, Geri's Hamburgers had the best french fries. 10 pack of cheeseburgers and a 1/2 pound of fries? $7.99. The fries were so greasy that you could see thru the bag like it was cellophane. Also, the Maidrite burger was amazing. Still would like to know the recipe for that. Anybody remember the Frostop franchise??
  24. There is no way that Julio is our closer. Pretty sure a guy that would be a closer somewhere would get a guaranteed contract. Alot of former closers think they can still close, hence the performance bonuses. Remember, we not only lost our closer, we lost our set up men too (Gagne, Mota). So the first reliever that gets signed isn't necessarily the closer. BTW, Steve Phillips predicted Kerry Wood to be our closer on BBTN last night. Not sure if I believe him, but he said Wood would get around 2yr/18 mil from the Brewers.
  25. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here it goes anyway. When the Brewers go into the arbitration hearing with Fielder, can they put a clause that Prince gets a bump in pay if his weight is in a desirable range? Say the Brewers offer 6 million for 2009, with an extra weight incentive of 1.5 if he comes in under 260lbs. Can they do that?? I guess the question would be can incentive laden contracts be put on the table at arbitration???
