  1. The problem is finding this years's Jackson. Deals like Jackson and Garza still netted Matt Joyce and Delmon Young. So a Gamelesque prospect was dealt then anyway. You have to give talent to get talent.
  2. If the 2 pitchers we add posts a sub 4 ERA, we can contend. 4 of our 5 starters had an ERA over 5 last year. No doubt a small improvement can make a big difference.
  3. MLBTraderumors states that Melvin did have a sit down with Lackey's agent at the GM meetings. They said that he also talked with the agents of Davis and Wolf.
  4. Salome and Hart might fetch Jackson. But it's hard to imagine the Tigers trading Jackson without getting some young pitching in return. Maybe Bush and Hart for Jackson and a high salary player. Ordonez makes a ton, but Detroit may send some cash to get him off the books.
  5. Who cares if the guy is 27? The amount of arby years is way more important than age. If the guy is that good, we won't have him after the arby years anyway. You may get more quality from a guy at ages 27-30 than from 22-25. He certainly should have life left in his arm by age 30.
  6. WAR is offense and defense, right. Jeter was better than Andrus offensively, so Andrus had to be better than Jeter defensively. Right?? The GG award is a joke. They should just do away with it. I have more range on my bar stool than Jeter does up the middle. And this isn't written in blue.
  7. Umm, Gomez is a career .246 hitter (close enough to .250) and has 12 triples in 1,017 career at bats. So no, he won't have 15 triples in 500 at bats. And yes, there is a huge difference in the offense of Cameron and Gomez. Well, he can definitley get to 15 triples in Miller Park. Heck, Counsell had 7 or 8. And his stolen base skills and superior baserunning will make a difference. Cam got thrown out on the bases numerous times this year.
  8. They weren't going to include him with 3 other prospects. If it were straight up for Lee, it would've been done right away.
  9. Just like Carlos Gomez??
  10. The Phillies are looking for a third baseman. Just thinking that their staff already has two lefties and they may not want to carry as many as four lefties in their rotation. Right now they have Lee, Hamels, Happ, and possibly Moyer for next year. The Brewers could get a young pitcher with alot of upside and only trade one of their prospects. Thoughts?
  11. Wow. It's November kids. We have a ton of money to spend and everybody is giving up? We have 20 million to spend!! If Gomez hits .250, we don't lose much at all in center. Sure Cam hits more HR's, but if Gomez gets 500AB, he'll have 15 triples. Is there really that much difference? Hardy was a reserve over the last half of the season. He went to the minors for a month. There is no guarantee that he will even hit .240 this year. I like JJ. But we weren't even getting Bowden for him. Pretty sure Bowden was the trade deadline offer. Also, be patient. The price of free agents took a nosedive after January last year. We want to be the team to make an Abreu type deal, not a Bradley type deal. Right?
  12. Salome before Lucroy, IMO. Lucroy only hit .267 in AA. Both are better options than Kendall. Much cheaper too.
  13. Could you at least quote my whole paragraph? The point is that Gomez led off much of his career in Minnesota. Would you walk him with Mauer, Morneau, and Cuddyer behind him?? Cam batted sixth with a bunch of .230 hitters behind him. Would you walk him? Cam also took more strike 3's down the middle than anyone in the history of baseball. Exagaration? A little.
  14. Get off the ledge people. JJ was a reserve the second part of last year. The only mistake Melvin made was not trading him at the deadline last year.Weeks was great last year while healthy. There is no reason to think he cannot continue that. He replaces Lopez. McGehee can hit, period. You could see that in Chicago. With a clean knee, he could even be better. Gomez may never hit 300. But I'm pretty sure Cameron won't anymore either. Sure, Cameron walked alot last year. With Hart, Hardy, Hall, Kendall, or Rivera behind him, he should never see good pitches. If Gomez bats eighth, he will learn to be patient. Now, if Hardy/Hart/Cameron/Kendall = Escobar/Kawakami/Gomez/Salome + a free agent starter with money saved, I'll be ecstatic.
  15. I mentioned this in another thread, and Seattle also loses Beltre and Branyan. Yes, they may bring them back, but I could definately see a Hardy-Gamel deal to Seattle. Now, this wouldn't garner King Felix or anything, but the pieces sure fit nicely.Seattle just traded for Jack Wilson at the trade deadline. Since JJ doesn't wanna switch positions, I don't see him going to Seattle.
  16. In Vegas, they see ID's from all states. They wouldn't even know that vertical means anything different than horizontal.
  17. The Cubs and Cards are stacked with right handed power hitters. 36 games with more than one lefty in our rotation isn't wise. 4/64 for Lackey might get him here. Then I'd go after Matt Cain. Gamel, Hardy, and Bush may get that done. Lackey, Yo, Cain, Parra, Suppan/Narveson
  18. If you can get an ace, you have to make a deal. But the list of pitchers is short. Remember, we have higher than replacement hitters (Gamel) that can play first now. We don't have replacement pitchers on hand. We tried that this year. It didn't work well. Pitchers that we wouldn't have to sign to an extension before a deal: Cain, Lincecum, Felix, Lester, Peavy, Kershaw, Hanson, J Johnson, Grienke. Extension must be signed before deal: Halladay
  19. I seem to think Prince will be in San Fran or Boston next year too. But, there are a few other teams that may have interest also. Here is a list of what I think the Crew could get from a number of teams. 1. San Francisco- Prince for Cain and Posey. Now I know the Brewers have talented catching in the minors, but teams will pony up multiple prospects at the chance to get a young catcher. 2. Boston- Prince for Bucholz, Bard, Bowden, and Delcarmen- Arms, arms, arms. 3. Tampa- Prince to Rays for Crawford and Price 4. Seattle- Not sure what could come back, but Jack Z will be interested. 5. Toronto- They have tons of young pitching and are trying to catch Boston and NY. They may overpay to keep Prince out of Boston. Of course, he could end up in alot of places if teams are willing to include their current first baseman in a deal (Colorado, Atlanta, White Sox, Cincinnati). Gonna be a lot of talk on this board this winter.
  20. I think we need to go a different direction. I like Cam, I really do. But, we need more high OBP guys. I would love to throw Cam's money at Lopez and try Weeks in Center. A lineup with Lopez and Weeks batting in front of Braun and Prince makes me drool. I think Cam, Hardy, Hart, and Kendall all need to go. They can be replaced with Weeks, Escobar, Gamel, and Rivera.
  21. Maybe they could give Halladay and Wells to the Yanks for Ian kennedy. That may even it out.
  22. I'm beginning to think that maybe they are gonna shop Escobar and keep JJ, now that he has one more year of arby. Showing all teams exactly how good Alcides' glove is at the ML level may get teams to make offers. Just my guess. And JJ won't be breaking the bank this year either. Another reason to send him down is to keep his numbers down.
  23. If we aren't going to the playoffs, why not deal him? A decent AA pitcher would be fine witb me.
  24. He hates it in Chicago, saying recently that he roots for 9 inning games so he can go home. He would be extra motivated to perform well here in Milwaukee. The essential "buy low" example.
