  1. I'm guessing it was more to get Dillon an AB and slightly upgrade the LF defense for the 9th.
  2. I'm looking forward to the reunions of the '05 team for the non-losing season and '07 team for the winning season.
  3. well, there were no decent FA starting pitchers out there at that point in the season, and there still aren't. if we're talking about free agent acquistion success/failure, Gallardo really isn't a part of that, as we'd have to make a trade to get anyone better than Jeff Weaver.
  4. That'd certainly be interesting to try. But, what if one of them gets blown up on entering the game? Then, not only is the 3 headed starter compromised, but the bullpens is short one arm from the 3rd addition for 2 rotation spots.
  5. It's one thing to say that a certain player (or two if you count Bill Hall) have a bad attitude or chemistry. It's quite another to say that the entire team has bad chemistry. (and, doesn't good chemistry usually result in explosions in the scientific world?)
  6. surfer, no matter who the agents are, the scenario you laid out is still relavent to the Brewers. They can't afford to have 6+ highly paid position players and 6+ highly paid starting and relief pitchers. So, building around two or three key players, filling in with second tier free agents, calling up youngsters and getting a player or two from the scrap heap is just going to be the business model, whether Boras represents 1 player or 10.
  7. I think just about anyone who has watched the Brewers the past three years would realize that Prince is not exactly the type to go skipping around the dugout singing Kum-bay-ya. He likes the grim look. That doesn't mean he's got a 'bad attitude'. I'd think he's quieter this year because he's not performing as well as he feels he should, and therefore doesn't have as much right to be as vocal in the clubhouse as he was last year. Who knows, though, as I haven't had the chance to walk around in the clubhouse for a few minutes, which would obviously tell me everything I needed to know about the teams perpetual mental state.
  8. Yes it did! That's the reason we like him! There's not too many people who can draw a walk one day. Strike out 3 times the next, and then the day after that get a walk and a Homerun.
  9. That's a great way to disccourage fandom among the young crowd. Definitely not a good decision if MLB licensing was taking the long view (which they apparently aren't).
  10. Do you say that in this thread because you feel that that injury is still affecting Bill Hall this year? This thread is kind of old...
  11. Sorry, I didn't see the play. Still, a lot of people get held to singles on hits off the wall. Did he hit it to dead center or something where it should've been a no doubt double? And I'm pretty sure Svuem has nothing to do with runners going the extra base to second, as he's not in the field of vision of the runner.
  12. The definition left out 'scary'. There's plenty of large animal whale people in the US, but not too many of them can hit the ball off the wall let alone then making it even a close play at 2b too.
  13. Hopefully with a strong mix of long ball in the ratio.
  14. Perhaps he will punch a wall before tuesday and fail his physical.
  15. "He has a couple more games with HR and doubles and he >>>will be<<< out OPSing Braun easily." is how I read that comment. It was just written in more of a speaking tone.
  16. I have seen people post that he isn't a very good bunter, but I don't recall what specific information was given about that, if any.
  17. My fastball rises. It's so slow that I have to throw it on an upward arc just to make it to the plate. I'd think that most fans would realise that 'rising fastball' is a figure of speech as well, however, I have seen some computer games that didn't quite get it.
  18. He's the best manager the brewers have had since 2001 or so at the very least.
  19. i'm pretty sure the crew chief has jurisdiction to overturn plays after a conference between the umps, if the other umps were able to see the play correctly.
  20. That's pretty close to where I'm sitting tomorrow night, so I suppose I could always ask an usher for more details. Thanks!
  21. I'll ask in this thread even though I probably could get away with making a new one: Where exactly in the park is the fan pitch radar gun thingy, just in case I want to make a fool of myself and find out that my max fastball is about 40 mph.
  22. Bill Hall is going to have a mediocre OBP and AVG. He just isn't a .300 hitter with a great eye. But, he has plenty of pop to overcome any deficiency in the BA/OBP department to be a positive part of the brewers lineup from slots 5-7. Really, I just can't bring myself to complain about a .260/.330/.500 line (my guess at his season line) from the second half of the lineup. Sure, he's definitely underperforming right now, but I don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong with his approach right now. We've seen him hit base hits, doubles and even a homer to the opposite field. For the past few years, his plate discipline is certainly better than Ryan Braun (which I hope changes from Ryan's end). He's shown some ability in working the count and taking walks the past couple of years, he just isn't likely to hit for a high enough avg to bump his obp up to the elite range.
  23. because he's not a 'prospect'? He's a 28th~30th man of the major league roster more or less is my feeling. (not the first callup for injuries most likely, but if we're getting bit by the injury bug, he's a better guy to sit on the bench for a couple of weeks than messing with a prospect who needs the consistent playing time at AAA).
  24. I don't consider Gagne to be the best pitcher in the pen, but I am a-ok with him keeping the 'closer' job until he reaches a point approaching turnbow 2nd half '06. I like that we have multiple guys who are actually able to come into a 'jam' and get us out of it most of the time, and then stick around to do the next inning. I second the opinion that we should think twice before using gagne in inclement weather. I also don't think that he should pitch more than three games in a row. With the number of solid options we have, there's really no GOOD reason to do that. I do agree with the point that we should get him as many saves as we can without detrimental effects on the course of the season to increase his FA status when he moves on next year.
