  1. The Lions are perpetually such an undisciplined team.
  2. It looked like the ref assumed the hold when it wasn’t actually there.
  3. If the NFL is actually serious about eliminating stuff like this, you need to toss a guy for a play like that. 15 yards isn’t enough to discourage it, apparently.
  4. How short is his leash in Dallas? Two years?
  5. First team to turn the ball over loses.....
  6. If I’m Matt LaFleur, I drive Pettine to Austin Straubel after the game and put him on a plane to anywhere else, then drive to his house to pack up his crap and ship it to him.
  7. I don't think that's a penalty anymore if the pass inadvertently hits a lineman. Ah, thanks.
  8. So how do they overturn that and ignore the illegal touching penalty?
  9. Clark officially inactive, Turner and Patrick good to go on the o line.
  10. I can’t express how delightful it has been to watch Nebraska’s negative reaction to their updated schedule today after pouting more than any other Big Ten school about the cancellation. “We want to play football not matter what! Oh, but we don’t want to play a schedule that’s sooooo hard....”
  11. Major strawman there. They released him because he didn't perform there either. Yelich already had two MVP caliber seasons for the Brewers. The Aguilar trade itself was bad for both teams.
  12. Considering that a discussion of the trade involves the two teams actually involved in the trade, I can't see how it can possibly be considered immaterial. But if your point is that the Brewers would have been better off keeping him, you're clearly right in hindsight. But based on his depressed value at the time, I think they got what they could.
  13. We ARE talking about the Jesus Aguilar that has been basically at replacement level for the Marlins, right? Yeah, his offensive numbers have rebounded some but his defense has continued to worsen, eroding most of his offensive value.
  14. I disagree with most of this paragraph, save for maybe the first sentence. TV money would be there either now or in the spring, perhaps more so since there's no competition at that point. 'Packed football stadiums' is a bit of a straw-man as well, as no one is claiming that it's anything other than highly doubtful there'll be 100k fans in stadiums in the spring. But is it at least somewhat more possible that you'd be able to have 10-15k fans then, vs. the zero that I'll assume most/all Big Ten schools will have this fall? I'd certainly say there's at least a somewhat higher possibility.
  15. Seems like there's a contradiction within your post itself, actually. No larger number of fans in the stands before fall 2021, but "let's see if we can have 25k fans on 10/24" seems at odds with each other. I tend to agree with your basic point about capacity in the spring, though. I just think that taking a virtually 0% chance of having large crowds in 5 weeks up to even a 5-10% chance may have been worth the wait financially. This sums up my position fairly well, actually.
  16. Care about what? The money? I think it should have been a huge factor. You're right, nothing is guaranteed by waiting another 4 months. But there's a much stronger possibility that there will be a vaccine that might allow for more significant numbers of fans in the stands, which would have led to more revenue. Starting in October truly guarantees nothing, but creates a lesser chance of fans in the stands and a higher chance that the season will be cancelled early or that games will be missed.
  17. Yep, there's a huge disconnect in saying 'it's safe for football' while campuses, including UW-Madison, are having major problems and are actually closing down. We all know what's really going on here.... $$$$$$$$
  18. Pretty much how I feel about the preseason Top 25 poll every single year.
  19. Honestly, if the Dodgers were as motivated to acquire Hader as some fans think, he'd be a Dodger already. Might need to come to grips with the idea that bid/ask aren't aligned there.
  20. Taylor officially out for the year, if there was any question left on that.
  21. A few more thoughts with a little more time to review the game: 6)Who knows how the rest of the season plays out, but it was great to see Kirksey's name all over the stat sheet. He really seems to flow to the ball well. 7)Considering the negative opinions about taking a 'project' at 12 overall, it was nice to see Gary around the QB yesterday. Hopefully the next step is translating that to actual sacks. 8)Goals for a team are probably 1)Win, 2)Win while looking as 'pretty' as you can, and 3)Win while staying mostly healthy afterward. I think the Packers did a nice job on 1 & 2, but they got hit a bit with the injuries. Taylor's appears to be the one that we all assume is a long-term injury, but it'll be important to see the official injury/practice reports later this week. The good news is that the Packers managed to assemble a fairly deep and versatile group of o-linemen and should be able to weather 2-3 injuries along the line very well. It's when that creeps to 4-5 that any team's depth is challenged. Hopefully a few guys get healthy there before another goes down.
  22. There's a long-standing joke that NFL teams should have a 17 year-old Madden player beside them to make those in-game decisions, and I'm less convinced each year that it's that much of a joke. Statistically, teams should go for two, go for it on 4th, and onside kick more often.
  23. A few quick thoughts: 1)Defense is always behind offense early in the season, and probably more so this year, but holy crap does that Viking unit look bad. They're going to have to score a lot of points to let their new-ish defense catch up, and I wouldn't bet on Cousins to pull that off. The number of points the Packers gave up doesn't look good on paper, but there was really no legit defensive 'scheme' for nearly the entire 4th quarter. I'm more annoyed they gave up three consecutive 2 pointers than anything. 2)Consequently, this offense looked really good today. MVS showed flashes of being a guy who can beat anyone today, he just needs to catch the ball consistently to be a massive play maker. 3)As shaky as Rodgers looked last year in a lot of the games, that looked like MVP-level Rodgers out there today. Not sure if that's more time with the scheme, better rapport with his weapons, or whatever, but holy crap was he good. 4)Alexander and King both had a hiccup late in the game, but Jaire has become one of the top-tier corners in the league. HR of a draft pick. If King can stay on the field (Big if, I know), they're a really good CB tandem. 5)Adams, just wow.
  24. Why are we using low career major league innings as a marker of anything?
  25. This is where I'm at as well. I'm optimistic that the team will play better overall and not need to rely as much on 'luck' as they may have last year. I expect a regression, but still a 10/11-win playoff team. It's fair to temper expectations relative to last year, and probably very fair to wonder if they've done anything remotely close enough to allow for a closing of the gap with a team like SF, but they'll be far better than the Twitterverse's 'I didn't like their draft so I think they'll be terrible' crowd thinks they'll be.
