  1. Worth noting they're tied with Derek Johnson's Reds with that distinction....
  2. I mean, September is oddly both September and technically May this year, so I wouldn't put a ton of importance on the date as of yet.
  3. Avi put up 2 WAR last year. If anything, rough metrics suggest he was slightly underpaid....
  4. Agreed on all points. The emergence of Williams as a viable replacement for a tiny portion of the cost will make the Hader rumor mill the most interesting part of the off season.
  5. You'd rather play to win right now with this team? I'd rather pile up bodies in the minors and hope to hit on one down the line. Plus, presumably if we picked up a 'bench bat' right now and he went 1/11 to start then we'd all deem the guy to suck and the trade horrible. You play to win the game. NEVER sacrifice the now for the uncertainty of the future. That will always get you no where. That mindset is probably why David Stearns is a General Manager for a MLB team, and we fans aren't.
  6. I took it that way as well. But also, Counsell almost had to say something to that effect.
  7. I think this is it. Phelps is probably the only one of their '1-year deal with an option' guys that had any legit value, and they dealt him. Beyond that, you're left with the choice of A)Trading one of our legit good players away to rebuild, or B)Deal away what's actually left in the system at this point to try and make the playoffs in a weird season with a roster with more than a couple of holes. I think they did what they could to get value back, but there wasn't much of value to give.
  8. So accurate.
  9. If the farm system is barren, what exactly were they using to add some position player talent to the awful lineup?
  10. Posted in another thread, but one more time for emphasis: Brewer fans over the past week: "I'll only make trades for a very limited set of very elite prospects or established all-star caliber players." Brewer fans today: "OMG, I can't believe we didn't make more trades!"

  12. Gavin Lux, the only prospect anyone will trade anything for.
  13. So a proven set up man for three or four pitchers who will amount to nothing. I hate this quantity over quality crap. Stearns could've got a hundred low level pitchers in the trade, but 100 x 0 is still zero. That wasn't how the equation ended up working out in the Lind trade.
  14. I've very much had the feeling something was going to happen today, and today, I've actually been hoping it involves Hader. That likely doesn't lead to an actual deal, but it certainly has added some excitement today.
  15. Based on the rumored asking price, I think that's likely accurate. The Padres certainly have the ammo to build a fantastic package with Gore as the centerpiece to get a deal done.
  16. I had forgotten about Patino, and he'd be a great get as well.
  17. I don't know if 1 for 1 is even what the Brewers would look for. If you're arguably creating one hole by trading a player like Hader, wouldn't it be with the goal of using him as leverage to fill more than one hole in return?
  18. That leaves more than enough ammo for a Hader deal if they want it. Gore and Abrams would be a drool-worthy return, and I'd happily give them a Supak-type if it helped get Morejon back too.
  19. Again, certainly fair points. But it's worth noting that Miller Park only rates slightly behind Yankee stadium as HR-friendly, and Yankee Stadium is more friendly to LH power hitters vs. a righty like Andujar. Minor League HR numbers aren't the best way to evaluate or predict power either, as Yelich never hit more than 15 HRs in any season in the minors, and his power developed just fine.
  20. I disagree. I think they could pony up for a guy like Turner, but it's far more likely they're able to pull a 1B out of a hat as they have successfully done prior to this year.
  21. I do think you're being overly dismissive of just how good Andujar's "good not great year" really was. A 5-WAR season would instantly rate him as the second best bat on the entire Brewers roster, and legitimately WAS great. A lot of his value was sapped away due to crappy defense at third, which would be mitigated by the DH next year in the NL. You'd obviously have to think he was convertible to 1B and able to play competently there for it to be a match. But, it's impossible to ignore how ineffective he's been since that great season in 2018. As such, I still don't think a deal with the Yankees is ideal or even feasible.
  22. Here's the full deal: Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 5m Deal as it stands, per sources and reports from @Dennistlin , @JeffPassan and @RyanDivish : Taylor Trammell, Luis Torrens, Ty France and Andre Muñoz from Padres to Mariners for Austin Nola, Austin Adams and Dan Altavilla. That's a really nice haul of young talent for the Mariners for giving up a 30-year old but solid 1B and two meh arms.
  23. Sounds like a 7-player deal between the Mariners and Padres involving Austin Nola. Trammell, Torrens, and Ty France part of the return for Seattle.
  24. Yeah, I don't have much interest in a deal with the Yankees, but Dominguez is an interesting option. Andujar is a LOT more interesting in an NL with the DH as well than he would have been this past off season....
  25. I'm not sure that Minnesota should be written off. I think they could make a move, and they'd have enough to at least make a worthy offer.
