  1. My thoughts exactly. If they move up, I want it to be because a guy like Chubb or Edmunds, arguably the best players at their position and with a huge gap to the second-tier prospects behind them, are falling.
  2. Or the coaching has been poor and they're not living up to their potential? A reasonable possibility, IMO. I've noticed that negative, detractor 'fans' generally think that everyone is terrible, so that seems to work both ways if your assumption is correct.
  3. I'm not the one who used the word excellent originally, for the record. As I said in my post, if you equate 'excellent' to 'elite', then yes, there's confusion, as they're not currently elite. But he said that he didn't think they would even be above average, when they graded-out at a higher level than that even last year. Again, how do you define 'high quality, then?' Great, instead of excellent? Talk about a silly debate about semantics. Either way, he was significantly discounting the expected performance of Clark and Daniels based on their actual performance last year.
  4. What team has their future HOF QB miss most of the season and doesn't struggle to win games? People are putting the over-under on Packer wins this year in the 9-10 range, solidly in contention for a playoff spot. That's not a team in need of a rebuild.
  5. Yeah, the nice thing about the Packers' situation is that there really isn't a logical scenario where they come out on the stupid end of a trade. Either they trade up because a guy like Chubb or Ward or whomever is there or they move back because someone else is going to potentially make a stupid move to get to #14. Better put, there will be teams that end the night looking stupid... if the Packers look stupid, it'll be because their guy didn't work out, and we won't know that for a few years.
  6. Daniels AND Clark graded out as excellent (Yes, excellent) d-linemen last year. I suppose the above assumption does require assuming that Wilkerson rebounds somewhat under Pettine, but I don't think that's crazy. Then the word excellent is getting thrown around too casually. An excellent lineman stops the run and consistently gets pressure on the QB. Daniels and Clark were really good against the run, but they are not pass rushers. Clark has potential to do that. But my comment was really more about the position group as a whole being excellent. I just don't see the ceiling being excellent, but who knows. Perhaps your definition of 'excellent' differs from others, which is why there is a disconnect. What falls between above average/good and elite? Great? Excellent? If you're equating excellent with elite, that's the reason for the confusion.
  7. So we're predicting the season record before the draft even takes place? Come on, guys.
  8. Daniels AND Clark graded out as excellent (Yes, excellent) d-linemen last year. I suppose the above assumption does require assuming that Wilkerson rebounds somewhat under Pettine, but I don't think that's crazy.
  9. I'd be interested in trading up for a guy like Ward, but I'm not sure I like a trade up for the other two. I'm seeing some mocks that have Chubb falling a bit because of need drafting, so I'd be very interested in moving up to 10 at the cost of a third to get him. Many other drafts suggest he could go at #2, so who knows what tomorrow will bring. Beyond that, is Smith enough of a sure-thing at LB to consider moving up if he falls to that #10 range? Or is he too undersized for Pettine's scheme?
  10. 23 and 31 would be an overpay, based on the value chart. I'd likely do that, but we'd probably have to throw our third back to even things up. We probably need to fill three holes in the draft, and two 1sts and a 2nd probably help do that (DB, WR, Edge). It seems PLAUSIBLE that if Joshua Jackson doesn't go to GB at 14, he could be there at 23. That possibility gets more likely if Ward and/or Fitzpatrick falls a ways as well. If not, Jaire Alexander is likely there, and Harold Landry and Marcus Davenport could be as well if the QBs go early and everything else slides. If the question is would you prefer Landry or Davenport(23), Alexander or Donte Jackson (31) and a WR (James Washington?) (45), or Joshua Jackson (14) and Washington (45)? I probably prefer the first option as it fills more holes. If it's a question of whether giving up draft capital (probably our third) to move up a few slots and have Chubb and Washington(I'm choosing Washington just to be consistent), it gets more interesting from a talent standpoint, but one hole doesn't get filled right away. I think I'd prefer this to Jackson/whomever, though, regardless.
  11. Putting Bryant in a situation with a future HOF QB makes me think of the Moss move to the Pats in 2007. Thought to be washed up when playing with an underwhelming QB, then has a major career reboot with a quality offense. His stat lines are interesting. Elite WR for 4 years, but very pedestrian for the last 3. Hard to ignore the QB change as a potential cause of some of that change.
  12. gallardo was signed to a major league deal, which meant that he took up a spot on the 40-man roster that could've gone to another player. Did we lose someone that you preferred to keep? If not, does that point really matter?
  13. Apparently the answer to 'can anyone be plugged in as manager and know what they're doing' is no. Though the 'reliever wasn't warmed up question' is inexcusable, his handling of Nola and the staff in the opener might actually be more puzzling.
  14. Because it says 'state' and not 'state pro' team, I'll say Wisconsin football makes the CFB playoff before any of these happen, because I think it could happen this year. Excluding college sports, though, the Packers are a fairly safe bet, IMO.
  15. Doesn't this at least *plausibly* suggest that Arnold may have had knowledge that made him uncomfortable with Cobb based on his time in Tampa? Maybe the injury made them more uncomfortable with something than just a physical would clear.
  16. Intriguing. Only 25 years old, and potentially available at a bargain price after an injury-filled year in Buffalo after productivity in Philly. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Packers 'clean-up' a bit in this second wave of free agency now that the drunken spending spree is over.
  17. I've been thinking a lot about the 'trade a 4th for a solid CB' idea the last couple of days as well. It'd be interesting to speculate on who is out there, but Gute's comments about 'exploring all avenues to acquire a DB' makes me wonder if this is actually the most likely way they'll add a CB1 or CB2.
  18. Starting to see some mocks that have Fitzpatrick falling near or to Green Bay at 14. One mock I saw this morning had Fitpatrick taken at 13, and Joshua Jackson falling into the early 2nd. I'd certainly feel a LOT better about the secondary if we can nab the best DB in the draft in the first, and package one of our 4ths to trade up and get a guy like Jackson or Alexander in the 2nd if there in the first few picks on day 2. Those DBs (including King and Jones) would be full of talent, though very young.
  19. Easy there. Regardless of what side of the Cobb signing people are on, there's no need to call names.
  20. Hurns was mighty good in 2015, then ineffective and nagged by injuries the last couple of years. It would be interesting to see how he could fare with a legit QB.
  21. Giving up 4 potential starters for one guy, who may not end up being your guy anyway, is extraordinarily foolish. If I'm the Colts, I make this trade 8 days a week.
  22. The Jets just acquired #3 overall, trading their first (#6), both of their 2nd rounders (#37 and #49), and their 2019 2nd. What a stupidly run franchise.
  23. I was admittedly stunned at how exceptionally well Tramon graded out last year. I'd certainly welcome him back for a reasonable and short deal.
  24. Fair enough. Perhaps more interesting are the rough calculations that the Bears have used up almost all of their cap space with their spending....
