  1. Andrus is interesting.... he's solid defensively, and has hit very well for the position. Hard to believe he's still only 29.
  2. I'm going to stop this line of conversation right here. I re-read the thread, and everyone on both sides has continually posted using rationale for their point of view. Now, you can certainly disagree with the rationale, but calling anyone's viewpoints the equivalent of 'blind loyalty' is inflammatory and unnecessary. Feel free to continue the discussion of the topic at hand, but don't make it personal.
  3. Was there any confirmation regarding ACTUAL interest in Archer beyond a now disproved 'source' in the first place?
  4. Thanks for passing that along, Eye Black. As you say, that's pretty uninteresting from the Brewers' perspective, but perhaps to be expected from a Mariner's site. Vincent is just a guy, who has been pretty bad this year but ok-ish in the past and isn't young at all. De Jong seems like young fodder, as he hasn't really succeeded at AAA (or AA, really). And I'm always leery of any minor leaguer that is on their third organization at age 24 and was once traded for cash.... If the Brewers decide to trade of a player at a potential position of surplus like Thames, it should either be to fill a major hole on the MLB roster to help the team now, or for prospects to help re-load the farm system. This proposal manages to do neither...
  5. It seems like the Brewers managed to get many (most?) of their signings in at or below slot so far, allowing them to bank a great deal of cash. Obviously, Turang may take a chunk of that and I'd think they'd make a good run at Cabell, but is it possible that coming in with a significant or full $125k offer to some of the 'will not signs' could cause a couple to reconsider?
  6. Plenty of comments about the poor STL defense so I won't pile on, but that play by Ozuna is one of the strangest I have ever seen. I have never seen a worse-tracked fly ball at the professional level, possibly aside for someone looking into the sun and losing one. Completely bewildering.
  7. I wouldn't go that far, but he's certainly pitching like a solid#4/5 starter.
  8. I just don't think it wise to rely on two rookies, one with zero MLB experience, one with 2 very good MLB starts (and 1 not-so-good), and a guy that isn't really throwing yet. I think the depth is somewhat smoke-and-mirrors. Anderson is pitching worse than last year, Davies has been hurt/ineffective, and we're lucky if we're getting QS out of the likes of Woodruff/Peralta/Suter/insert name here. Chacin and the re-emergence of Guerra have been bright spots in an otherwise fairly dismal rotation so far this year. They're doing enough to win, which has largely been a product of the bullpen eating 3-4 innings every single night, which has worked well so far, but that HAS to start catching up to them. I don't think we have the luxury to let a guy like Burnes adjust to the majors in the middle of a playoff race.
  9. ....and if you look at the other 9 games, you'll note that they're much tougher than last year in-conference. Road games against Iowa, Michigan, Penn State and Northwestern look better than any of the road slate that they had on the schedule last year, when they STILL would have made the playoff if they had beat OSU in the B1G championship. The SOS will be dramatically higher, unless Michigan, Iowa, and PSU all underperform expectations, which I suppose is possible.
  10. Anyone catch the super-strange Winston Moss presser yesterday? Man, that guy seems ultra ticked-off to even be here. Apparently this is the second one like this in the last two weeks. https://www.packers.com/video/moss-biegel-comes-prepared-every-single-day
  11. Yeah, I don't buy the argument that they're sending him to AAA to get a few starts at SS to either not call him up or call him up and not play him at SS. It either means Sogard is gone or Arcia goes back down, or both. Either way, he's playing SS at least a couple times a week, probably more.
  12. And that's the key- when he played SS heavily in 2016 (105 games), his WAR was 1.6 despite a solidly negative defensive WAR. His bat is good enough to make him valuable at either middle IF position despite his defensive liabilities.
  13. This is fair and accurate. Cain should be calling Arcia off if he thinks it's his ball. If Arcia isn't letting up that's one thing, but Cain should be responsible for those fly balls.
  14. It's worth noting that despite his terrible offensive season, his defense is STILL so good that he's been above replacement level for the year. That may not be exciting to people who want every spot in the lineup to hit, but he hasn't been the problem that say catcher has been this year. If the bat comes around at all, he'll be a well above-average SS without much debate, as he's already better than replacement level even now.
  15. To elaborate on FTC's response, Straily is doing a lot with smoke-and-mirrors this year.... his FIP is truly terrible. Yes, he's still young-ish and cheap, but I don't think he adds much if anything relative to the value being given up there. And Dietrich's offensive value and any versatility are almost entirely offset by how bad he is defensively. He's basically an OF only, and his bat isn't good enough to be a valuable acquisition for our team with our glut of OF/1B types already.
  16. Let's stay on topic from here, please.
  17. I'd do both of those trades today.
  18. Looking further into Happ, he does seem like an acquisition that would make us better.... pending the cost of what it would take to get him, of course.
  19. I just think that relies too heavily on a guy who was absolutely terrible last year (Guerra), and a guy coming off a major injury (Nelson) to be comfortable with. And it again assumes that none of them get injured along the way. I will agree with Clancy, though: no need to break the bank, but I'd expect a modest deal for a solid starter arm.
  20. Eric Arnett is a name I had completely forgotten. Remembering it made me sad.
  21. In addition to what has already been said, I'll bet there's a long-ish DL stint in the future for one of the listed guys as well. That's just an inevitability in baseball, IMO. Does anyone REALLY feel comfortable throwing a playoff rotation of some combination of Anderson, Chacin, Guerra, Davies, and an effectiveness-yet-to-be-determined Nelson? Anderson/Chacin/Guerra/Nelson/acquisition seems a better bet to me...
  22. I feel sorry for anyone sitting in the sun down the 3rd base line today....
  23. There has to be something they've seen, right? Or this is a 2-3 day stopgap as they finish up something else? Otherwise, I agree that it makes zero sense.
  24. Such an odd statement that I can't let it go without asking for clarification. What are you basing this on? The Packers' historical bad luck with FA TE's? Graham has played in 15 or 16 of 16 games in all but one of his eight seasons so far.
  25. Then aren't we just better off playing the superior defensive player, Arcia, waiting for his sub-par bat to have a hot streak? Even if Saladino reverts to his pre-2017 form as noted in another thread, he projects to have similar overall value to Arcia if you assume no offensive improvement out of Arcia's bat. I'd rather bank on some kind of improvement there, as he'd end up having the better overall season.
