  1. The Brewers made their SS move. Presumably, they’ll shuffle deck chairs with Urias and Shaw now, hopefully to minimize ABs for interchangeable 27th man-type guys, but they’re still going to need to make a move at either 1B or 3B, IMO. So, where to from here?
  2. This is really good context. Adames was the top prospect in a perpetually good Rays farm system for I believe three straight years, and second in another. He also plays defense the outstanding was we THOUGHT Arica would....
  3. Agreed. I think Adames has some untapped potential yet. Also, I don't see it as giving up on Urias like some. I think it's possible Shaw just sifts over to 1B, and they improve their IF defense in the process. I’m unable to look myself right now, but how does Urias project as a 3B defensively? Obviously, SS wasn’t working for him at all.
  4. Not sure they sold high on JP. He took a beating these last two outings. I could agree they bought low on Adames, though. I think we would have loved this acquisition before this season. I could talk myself in liking this trade, I just don't really know what the plan is with Urias now and I am not sure what we are going to do with an already questionable pen. But there's a lot to like about Adames. He is 25, has had a pretty good career so far, was a top 100 prospect and is controllable. Maybe we just felt the value was too good to pass on. I think evaluating the trade is hard because of the context it’s logically evaluated with, which includes the Urias trade, and legitimately so. But on its own, it seems like a pretty good acquisition at a problematic position historically for the Brewers.
  5. I wish this post wasn’t so spot on....
  6. For those that complain that the Brewers don’t sell high on players, seems like they did just that with JP. Might argue they bought low on Adames as well.
  7. And trades for Yelich, Moustakas, etc....
  8. Unless you're implying that David Stearns has dementia, this isn't the best comparison.
  9. It's not just 'hitting below career averages', it's coming here and cratering. If it happens with one player, it's perfectly fair to assume that you missed something. When it happens with 7-8 players, that's a gigantic problem, and indicative of a larger issue. My point all along has been that the 'larger issue' has to either be that the Brewers' talent evaluators SUDDENLY got real bad at evaluating talent, or that something the coaching staff is doing isn't working. Again, as I've stated all along, the latter feels far more obvious, unless you truly believe that Stearns and the F.O. suddenly got terrible at their jobs.
  10. Collectively, all at once? And coupled with others that performed below expectations after arriving? What are the odds of that? Again, isn't the more likely/logical explanation that something about the Brewers' approach/strategy isn't working right? Yes? I don't know if you noticed but Smoak had to go to Japan and Sogard and Holt are in the majors with different teams and still not hitting. Yes, I've been the moderator of a Milwaukee Brewers fan board for ~20 years, so I do tend to follow baseball.

  12. Very fair to be disappointed with the ending, and in a lot of ways, the last season. Outstanding series, but the last season felt beneath the quality they did before that. The last season happened during the writers strike which is why it was shorter episode-wise as well as not as good as the other seasons. Thanks for that reminder, as that context makes a lot of sense as to why the season was shorter and clunkier.

  14. Kind of an odd statement, and I'm not sure what you're implying. In the end, the team's results rest on Stearns and CC. This year's results are still very much up in the air. As others have noted, it's worth seeing if it's a small sample size problem or indicative of a larger issue. Right now, I maintain that it's astoundingly unlikely that 8-10 players were acquired and suddenly performed as if they hadn't hit a baseball before. Hyperbole, of course, but still. Small sample is very, very possible, which means no one is to blame, but that's not what the 'fans' want to hear. If it's indicative of a larger problem, my point is that it is far more likely that the approach that the Brewers are preaching offensively is the issue rather than a sudden inability to evaluate talent by a front office that has shown immense skill in that area. We're certain Stearns is the one that needs the mulligan?
  15. I would venture to guess. So nothing definitive, then. Perhaps, but it seems the most logical explanation here. Either you can believe that our front office, who prior to last year had proven exceptionally good at their jobs, suddenly started bringing in only talent that was on the precipice of cliffing in their careers on a wide-spread level across multiple players and positions, or the coaches working with those guys aren't helping them. Or worse, perhaps hurting them. One of those explanations seems logical, the other far less so.
  16. Is there anything saying who actually hires the coaches between Stearns/Craig? Usually managers have a lot of say in that, if not absolute say.
  17. Bingo. This sums up my point exactly.
  18. Sorry, I really couldn't disagree more. The astounding number of players who have come in here and underperformed expectation/career norms, young players who haven't developed properly, etc. isn't indicative of talent evaluation, it's coaching.
  19. I agree with the notion that if you could have been relatively certain that Arenado WOULD opt out, trading for him as essentially a one-year rental vs. a seven-year commitment would have made a deal much more attractive to the Brewers.
  20. What if in this case Yelich was that dream car? That's likely the scenario the Brewers are in.
  21. This is a good summary of my view better expressed than I did above.
  22. Thanks everyone- I did manage to do the replacement this morning with minimal issues. The hardest part was getting the old one off, as the previous homeowner jerry-rigged an extension to the water inputs so that they'd reach the pipes (new faucet had long enough input hoses that this wasn't necessary) and the hoses were a pain to get off as a result. No leaks thus far....
  23. Our swivel kitchen faucet has gradually gotten harder to rotate between our side-by-side sinks, and tonight while trying to do so the on/off lever snapped right off. Hooray unexpected $$$ for a new faucet. Is is possible to install a new one myself with limited home repair skill without immense difficulty, or am I better off hiring a plumber?
  24. 99%?? Mine have been 2/3 at best for quite some time. I’d echo 99% where I’m at. Until this week, people not wearing masks were the vaaaast exception.
