  1. I think each of these points is very fair and accurate. I don't, however, agree with your ensuing paragraph. And of note: Difference is, Gute has in nearly all cases, proven correct on those picks. He's hit absolute HR's in the draft thus far with most of his major picks, and he's obtained absolute steals in guys like Jenkins, Savage, etc. who weren't on a lot of fans' radars. At some point, as I've said all along, doesn't he deserve more than a little benefit of the doubt? I think that's where we all should be, in a way. The problem is, Aaron ALSO needs to have that mindset, and for some bewildering reason (and there's zero way anyone can convince me it was due to Jake Kumerow), Aaron doesn't also recognize that HIS best chance to win another Super Bowl and truly be considered one of the absolute greats is also with Green Bay in 2021.
  2. One minor correction. I know you are trying to say that Deguara was a reach in an effort to support your narrative that Gute sucks, but more than one source now has since indicated that Belichick was in love with him, and there is no way he would have lasted past their 2nd round 3 pick at #101. The Patriots ended up drafting Dalton Keene, who is a very similar, yet lower rated player than Deguara, at that spot. So bash the pick, and bash the need ... fine, whatever. And the Patriots haven't exactly drafted great over the last few years, either. But saying that Deguara was a "5th rounder drafted in the 3rd" is probably a little disingenuous when he very likely would have been taken 7 picks later in the 3rd round. Similar story to the 'Gary was a reach' narrative from 2019, when it later came out that the Giants were likely to take him at 17.
  3. Well, the pitchers DID give up seven runs tonight.....
  4. I'm really starting to worry that we're all going to owe Hopper a huge apology for stating that Cain would be lucky to play in half our games this year back in March....
  5. I guess I'm not sure, at this point, what impact this situation has on the team. If he holds out until mid August then yeah. But he won an MVP last year with a 3 week training camp. I think that's a fair distinction. I guess I was assuming this becomes as much of a thing as some want us to believe, but is exceptionally fair to question whether this is actually that substantial.
  6. I would definitely look at trading him for a perceived fair return. If he goes on to mash somewhere else, then it is what it is. What is his perceived fair return though? I can't imagine he brings back anything that would be a difference maker this season so it seems to me the Brewers are better off hanging on to him and see if he can correct his issues next year. To your point, it's impossible for us to know the answers to what the team perceives as his actual, possibly revised ceiling now to justify a potential return. Similarly, we don't know for certain what other teams' perceived value is right now. But, I do think that the perceived value might be higher for a team in the league with the DH.
  7. I'm guessing Rodgers feels very good about his trade demand/threat to retire, but so far it too has accomplished nothing. Well, my interests are in the continued well-being of the Green Bay Packers. What Aaron Rodgers accomplishes or doesn't accomplish that have no bearing on a Packer football game means nothing to me. I think the serious problem continues to be that in my view, Aaron also doesn't seem to care about his situation's effect on the success of a franchise that he's dependent on to win, suggesting that he doesn't really care all that much about the winning part.
  8. I don't think anyone is thinking/advocating they trade him for nothing. But I do think they would trade him if they felt they got a fair return on him at this point.
  9. The Brewers tried him at 1B when he was in the minors and it was so bad I can't recall if they even let him play an MiLB game there. Guy couldn't play anywhere in the field. Quintessential DH. Some might call him the Keston Hiura of the outfield.
  10. You may not be wrong, but I also don't think it's fair to assume that Love is going to be useless. Presumably, the Packers wouldn't be considering such a move if they didn't like what they have there.
  11. There's not a single player that doesn't understand what the situation is. If you interpreted my statement as suggesting anything to the contrary, you interpreted incorrectly. And still, the Packers can impose a fine to show the other players that when you don't honor the commitments agreed to in your contract, you get fined. Regardless of "what the situation is."
  12. I think this is the best potential argument for possibly trading him, sarcasm aside. If you can find a similarly-high ceilinged player like Huira who also may have fallen out of favor, he might have value in that regard trade-wise. Keston's best future position is DH. He probably has more future value to an AL team as a result....
  13. Where was that suggested? Of course they know what's going on. But you'd be showing them that when you have a contract that says you must do 'X', there's consequences for not doing 'X', regardless of whether you're a HOF QB or the 53rd guy. No different really than the Jets making Brett Favre run laps after a fumbled snap, since that was the team's policy (and they did make him). The Packers not fining him is much more productive than fining him, even if it's only mind games. Rodgers has drawn a line in the sand that says, "I'm so serious about this I left half a million bucks on the table and I'm willing to forfeit $100k more." What do the Packers look like if they start demanding their $93k fine? Why, in your mind, are they different?
  14. Well, the main reason to fine him would be to show the other players that no one is above the rules. But yeah, they won't fine him. Lombardi would have.
  15. When his trade value is at absolute rock bottom? Man I don’t know. Probably better off hoping he somehow turns things around. I suppose it depends on A)whether the org thinks there's a chance that there's a higher value left to rebound to or B) whether the rest of the league still sees value in him. Personally, I'd be ultra-interested a swap for a guy like Jo Adell as someone suggested elsewhere if the Angels have soured on him. LA has the benefit of the DH, which is where Keston likely belongs....
  16. Full details are a 2nd and a 4th, with Julio and a 6th back.
  17. I am impressed by the business smarts of Lego. The sets they're releasing that target 30-40 year olds who now have disposable income and like stuff that reminds them of their childhood (the NES set, the Ghostbusters stuff, etc.) is absolute brilliance.
  18. I do wonder if some of the regret Gute speaks of is related to the org underestimating the severity of that fragility and/or his willingness to hold grudges.
  19. This sums up my view/opinion on this pretty well.
  20. Tone down the language, please.
  21. And you know for a fact those topics weren't discussed? No, and I don't think I claimed to know for sure. Nor do you know the contrary. We're on a message board after all. But, if it were discussed and they still drafted a QB, well, I think even you could see how that might not sit well with Rodgers. Sure. And I've made it perfectly clear that if I was in Gute's shoes, I wouldn't care to tell him. I'm actually a little disappointed in him for expressing regret. You do your job, Aaron should do his. Or, retire, as is the one thing he has a right to do as an alternative. Then, he can interview for front office jobs if he's so interested in having a say in player personnel.

  23. I certainly would like to see a link to those comments? I thought this story summed it up pretty well: https://larrybrownsports.com/football/packers-gm-shares-regret-with-aaron-rodgers-last-year/578155 Thanks, I hadn’t seen that previously!
