  1. They COULD technically trade for Watt, who reportedly wants out of Houston. It may require the cap number to be set higher than anticipated and/or a Watt restructure, but it's a plausible trade.... Plus, other than King, they're not really losing anyone on the defensive side of the ball. They really can use all of their draft picks on defense if they really wanted to.
  2. I actually kind of agree with both sides of it. It's super tacky and absurd to request funds for the stuff noted. But, if someone is willing to give, I guess good for you. Doesn't make it less tacky or entitled, but as others have said, no one is forcing anyone to actually give. At the same time, you're free to do what you want with your money. If you voluntarily give to a silly cause, that's your choice/right to do so.
  3. I think you missed the overall point: "The Packers will be over the cap in 2021" is an educated guess. As is "the cap will go up significantly in 2022". Neither is fact. It's unfair to criticize a poster for saying the first statement, while presenting the second as fact.
  4. IMO Turner is waaay off their radar. He's 36 and according to reports coming out of LA, he's looking for a four year contract. He made $19M in 2019 and I'm sure looking for something in that area per year. I just can't imagine the Brewers having even the slightest interest in him at this point. What team in this environment is giving a 36 year old $19 million a year?
  5. I too would like to hear this from a local Packers source before reading too much into it. It seems odd to come from a random national source rather than a guy like Wilde who has basically been a Rodgers media mouthpiece for years. Still, it also has a couple of potential meanings- is Rodgers just showing a willingness to restructure to help with the cap for 2021? Or truly trying to force him he Packers’ hand? You could argue that the best chance for both sides to win a Super Bowl is with each other in 2021, and opening up cap would help both sides reach that goal....
  6. I think this is all completely accurate.
  7. Good point about the post June 1st move, which would free up ~$23 million. I can't imagine they'd want to move him and get nothing for 2021, though.
  8. They'd gain about $5.5 million in cap space. If you acquired multiple draft picks in return for trading him, that's probably even enough space to sign those draft picks.
  9. Yep. Someone said it earlier, not sure if here or elsewhere, but he called a defense that looked like he thought TB had another timeout. Which, obviously, they didn't. I'm usually not a fan of Donatell-like firings based on one play, but that play coupled with an uninspiring body of work probably equals a new DC next year....
  10. Besides his 2019 season which was a superstar level season how is Semien a sure fire difference maker. I'm fine with a one year deal but no way would I shell out a big contract for a player who has had one unbelievable season and one other season where his defense made up for subpar offense. All his full seasons other than 2019 resulted in substantially positive WAR of 2.5, 3.4, 2.1, and 3.1 respectively. There is literally no way that can be interpreted as 'subpar'. Adding in his fantastic defense, and he has consistently performed at a high level for basically his whole career. And 2019 was literally MVP caliber. No one is necessarily expecting that again, but there's zero stretching the truth in calling him a difference maker.
  11. Semien is a difference maker for sure, and guys like Pederson make a lot of logical sense.
  12. Sorry, to clarify- I'd bring him in as a boundary guy in the nickel package. I don't think he's an every down boundary guy. Not physical enough to help with the run. If it's coverage all the way, it can hide some of his flaws.
  13. It would have been mighty close if they had ended up needing to punt. Obviously, they didn't.
  14. I guess I'd take King back on a 1/$3m deal to be the nickel corner, but I don't think he's a legit #2/boundary guy (but someone may stupidly pay him like one). Considering the fact that he's good to miss 2-5 games a year with injuries and their limited off season resources, the correct call is likely to let him go. As for Jackson, obviously it's a huge off season for him. New DC, potentially new DC opinions, and a clear opportunity to step up into the hole likely vacated by King. If he can't play his way into at least the Sullivan/3rd CB role, he's likely a camp casualty, IMO.
  15. I pretty much agree with all of your post as quoted. They have a good track record with regard to the line, so I'm confident they'll make the correct call on Linsley either way. I've long been on the record that a second contract to Jones for many years or significant money is a mistake. If he's willing to come back on a short deal, that's a different story, but that's unlikely. I do wonder if he'd be willing to punt FA a year just knowing the cap situation for most teams vs. what may happen for 2022. But yeah. The defense is the key to success going forward. They've got a couple of holes to fill at CB (Sullivan can't be your 3rd DB, clearly) and on the line. But, they've got draft capital if limited cap room.
  16. I don't want Rodgers to leave. He's playing at a better clip now than he has his entire career, which is saying something. I think the reassuring thing is that he's simply not going anywhere this year unless he retires. The Packers gain virtually nothing if he goes this year. He's a Packer for at least one more season, possibly two more.
  17. You don't bring in the owner to talk to Daniel Robertson, or equivalent. So, likely something much bigger....
  18. Because for the 15th time, it has nothing to do with the assessment of Love being a stupid selection. Why do you assume that my response to a completely different poster who specifically questioned the evaluation of Queen as a player has anything to do with your argument? My post said absolutely nothing about Love, or even Queen relative to love.
  19. I am a little encouraged about the note that Mark A. was apparently asked to sell a FA this offseason, which means that there IS stuff going on behind the scenes, but I agree that you're kind of getting up against spring training if something doesn't give soon.
  20. Simply stating facts. In 2020, the Packers would have been a worse team if Queen was their MLB. That's undeniably true based on the play on the field. Jordon Love did not help the team, but he also didn't hurt it with poor play on the field. Then why comment regarding his play or value as a player?
  21. Please feel free to elaborate on the differences, possibly without insults like "lazy" and "crazy" this time?
  22. What?? Sorry, SECOND worst. He must have had a decent game in week 17, and my apologies to Elandon Roberts of the Dolphins for not giving him the honor of calling him the worst. His pass rush rating was slightly above average. Run defense and pass coverage were horrid. Really, really bad.
  23. Wanting to play and being able to are two different things. The way things looked after 2019 suggested that the latter may be an issue. Regardless, if the point is that they 'should have used their first to get Aaron more help to win while he's still here', it was literally the same thing Packer fans were saying in 2005 and for the next several seasons. I literally remember someone calling into a radio show after the SUPER BOWL WIN, refusing to give Thompson credit for the XLV win and Rodgers pick, because 'if they had drafted more help for Favre we would have won 2-3 more super bowls with him....' They went and got the guy they wanted to transition to from Rodgers. Fans can (and clearly, some of you do) hate that, but we won't know if it was the right move for 5 years or so. Just please don't be that guy calling into the show after the Super Bowl LX win claiming that if they had drafted a WR in 2020, we'd have won 3 more titles with Rodgers....
  24. In his case, basically the same thing if they would cut or trade him. Full acceleration of his signing bonus, no roster or base paid, and a cap savings of ~$5.5 mil.
