  1. Not sure what this has to do with the game. Betancourt has been fine today.
  2. Minor can't get anything over the plate, and Estrada is getting way too much of the plate.
  3. Maybe the people who screwed up Weeks's name were on to something. You can't spell Richie without and h and an r.
  4. Betancourt has been every bit as bad as advertised which is troubling, but in a few weeks we know for sure that at least two of those bench players will no longer be on the bench with the return of Lucroy and Hart. Melvin was in a rough position in that you don't want to give up a lot of talent just to fill two holes for a couple of weeks. He actually did an okay job finding someone to play with Hart out, but for whatever reason Roenicke has used Kostay and Almonte over Morgan. Kotsay doesn't seem good at baseball things, and based on some of the comments this spring, I assume he charmed his way into the lineup.
  5. If you right click in some empty space at the top of the window you should get a menu with a customize option. Clicking customize will give a list of icons you can drag and drop on the window. I think this includes a bookmarks button that you can drag and drop where you want it.
  6. What makes you think Dickerson would put up those number? A season's worth of at bats? For excitement, I'll add that despite health problems this past year, we'll have Uecker back for another season.
  7. This. We got Dickerson for basically nothing, and we traded him for basically nothing. A swap of marginal talent from our bench for marginal talent in the bullpen.
  8. Netbooks have gotten a lot better. I've got a Dell M101z. It's the size of a netbook (11 inch screen), but has the specs of a much larger laptop (dual core processor, 4 gigs of ram). I can have two tabs open in firefox, a video playing, and Ubuntu running in a virtual machine, and it's still snappy.
  9. Jobs basically wants things done their way, or they won't support it. I found his criticism of flash being closed delightfully ironic. It'll be interesting to see how the wars he's waging with Adobe (and Oracle too) will play out.
  10. I'm not sure how the team will look in 2014, but the next two years are going to be a lot of fun. Bravo, Doug. Bravo.
  11. It's hard not to be optimistic looking at those numbers. Even if Doug is unable to add another Wolf quality pitcher, our rotation wouldn't look too bad with Capuano's projection in there. Given that our offense continues to produce like it has, we will contend.
  12. Did you think Toronto would give him to us as a Christmas present? I think it's pretty clear that: - Marcum has recovered from his surgery. - Marcum can be successful despite his low velocity. - You're going to hate pretty much anything Melvin does.
  13. Marcum is a good pitcher. He's no ace, but he's no back of the rotation starter either, and he have him under control for a couple of years. Guys like him do not come cheap, however. I'd be surprised and thrilled if Doug was able to get him without giving up Jeffress, Rogers, or Odorizzi.
  14. Looking at the list of Toronto's rule 5 eligibles, Emaus is the guy I want too. I could see him platooning with Gamel at 3B if we moved McGehee.
  15. I don't think the fault lies with AT&T or LG. It's just bad luck. According to a number of reviews the LG VU is a good phone. You could have ponied up for an iPhone and the same thing could have happened. Because of the nature of their use, cell phones in general have a relatively high failure rate. I don't agree with Paul, but this is really not the case here. The LG VU for $50 is a good phone at a good price. A more expensive phone is going to have more features but will not necessarily be more durable. A quick Google search shows that BlackBerry's have around a 10% malfunction rate in the first year. That's pretty high when you think about it for an expensive phone.
  16. Yes the bullpen had a lot of work, but there was an off day in there, and I think there would have been another one before game 5. And game 5 should have had zero impact on Sveum's decision. You play to win game 4 and worry about game 5 later.
  17. There are a lot of valid criticisms of Melvin (free agent signings, trades), but I have no idea where this one is coming from. He may waste money on bad pitching, but he is all class.
  18. Building your own PC is a ton of fun. My advice: - Do your homework (make sure all your components are compatible). - Buy the best/newest motherboard you can. You can go cheap on other components if need be.
  19. Capuano will be in someone's rotation next year. I'd love to have him back. It's truly amazing that he's been able to come back from a second Tommy John surgery. His velocity is right back to where it was a few years ago. The only guys as see as locks for next years rotation are Gallardo and Wolf. Narveson is a fine 4/5 starter, but if we can make an upgrade there we've got to. We've got two rotation spots to fill for sure. One I'd like to be Capuano; the other I'd like to be some acquisition. The young guys will get their shot eventually. Rogers needs to work on going deeper into games, and Jeffress needs to get back to starting in the minors.
  20. I think you'll find that this is the case for most GM's as well. Even Christ himself (Andrew Friedman) missed on some Free Agent signings like Pat Burrell and Troy Percival.
  21. Melvin gave up little or nothing and got some solid production from these players: McGehee Coffey Davis (The first time around) DiFelice Turnbow Podsednik Clark Branyan Wise Kolb Kapler Edmonds Narveson
  22. Yeah, I thought it was terrible. Luckily The League was great, so the night wasn't a total loss.
  23. You can do that with a KVM switch. You can even share a keyboard and mouse between the two computers.
  24. So if Mark will be starting, and he'll be activated on Friday, does it mean there's a good chance he'll be starting on Friday?
  25. Alex Sanchez was 26 when he was benched and then traded by the Brewers. Yes, Sanchez was 4 years younger than Clark, but I'm not sure he'd be considered a young player at that point. There's a huge difference between a 24 year old (Gomez) and 26 year old (Sanchez) in the world of baseball. Hardy started over half the games in every month of the 2005 season. I'd hardly call that being benched. In 2006 after Mench was acquired Hart had 187 PA's, Mench had 133. In 2007 Hart had ~250 more plate appearances than Mench. If anything, Mench was buried behind Hart; it certainly wasn't the other way around. Everyone on this board knows you couldn't stand Yost. If you're gonna criticize him, at least do it with something resembling facts, not revisionist history and gross exaggerations.
