  1. If I recall correctly, I think Jack referred to whoever was in the coffin as "him". Can someone verify? Since no one else went to the funeral, and the Oceanic 6 are famous, I'm thinking it's someone else, maybe someone involved in the rescue (Farraday, etc.) or someone who was involved with the "others" or the Project. Because Kate asks Jack about coming to see the baby, it could mean that she wants him to connect with Aaron as a survivor, or it could deal with the fact that Jack is the baby's uncle. Since Jack doesn't know he's the uncle yet, maybe that will get revealed before he leaves and Claire gives the baby to Kate and Jack (who she finds out is her 1/2 brother) because she's dying, believes the psychic, etc. The time travel/ alternate dimension angle seems to be making more and more sense. They explained the Black Rock a little more today at the auction in 1996, supporting the idea that it someone got "teleported" to the island.
  2. I've thought that his going to the minors was always likely. If he doesn't outpitch the other candidates by a large enough margin to stay, you keep the veterans and send the guy with options to the minors. Then when you make a trade or someone gets hurt, he's still available. If you keep him (when he's relatively equal tot eh other options) and release the veteran, when someone gets hurt later on, you need to call up a Zach Jack or lesser talent and you get what we used to have in Milwaukee, 5th starters who go 4 innings and have ERAS or 6. This is why Melvin keeps talking about depth. I believe we had 8 guys start a game last year. That's probably pretty close to average. If we start getting rid of competent major league starters to keep guys with options, we'll end up with a lesser option later.
  3. While not common, I have seen some long term drunks in the .40-.50 range pretty regulary. There was one guy I saw back in the day (he's probably dead now) that would get the shakes whenever he went under .30. His regular level when he'd be found passed out and brought to the hospital was between .50 and .60.
  4. My list: Wrigley - I know the fans suck, but for a pure baseball experience, a day game in the summer is incredible. Plus, its convenient for us in Milwaukee. Fenway - Like Wrigley, it feels like history. Both places put me in awe the first time I visited them. The atmosphere around the stadium is great and the fans are hard core. Also, the area and food are very good, providing a great vacation opportunity. Cleveland (Whatever they changed the name to) - not too far of a drive and there is a nice downtown to experience including R & R HOF and a great bar scene. Great fan support makes it a good time also. New Busch - Tried to get the old stadium feel, but didn't seem to mix new in real well. I saw 2 games and just didn't "feel" impressed. My Brother-in-law goes to 10-15 games there a year and says the same thing. Comiskey - Not very good, but if you want to see AL baseball and take a short trip, you can get there in 2 hours and walk up to get decent tickets. They run a lot of good specials during the week. St. Petersburg - Nice weather and lots to do in the area, but the stadium is a disgrace. Bad food, bad everything. My intended visits are Pittsburgh and both New York stadiums this year.
  5. Since I don't think they are going to trade any of the 4 (with only a slight chance of Weeks or Hardy and no chance of the other 2), the only improvement will come from within. They could get another good glove utility guy to go with Counsell, but that won't help all that much either. The big thing here is to get Prince to play a better 1B, as he misses alot of those throws that are off. The error goes to the thrower, but a good first baseman can save many of those. Also, we all know about Braun needing to improve. If he can play the full season and get his Errors down to 20 and Prince reduces his by 5 and saves a few others, they wouldn't be bad. As far as plate discipline, I don't have a huge problem with Hardy, but Braun needs to be more careful, especially if he's in front of Prince. He seems to have a good eye at times, and at other times seems to do the Bill Hall thing and expand his zone. Prince will get walked alot more next year if he continues to hit like this. Weeks showed lots of improvement late in the year, but he still needs to be careful that he doesn't get the 3TO thing going. Overall, I would say they're top 5 offensively, so if they could at least be average defensively, it would be a plus.
  6. You can request to to see the reading, but they don't have to show you (although not a bad idea). When using laser, the officer may press the triggerr to try to get a higher speed and thus get a lower one. If he showed you the lower one, you wouldn't believe that there was a higher one, etc. Most agencies use laser almost exclusively in high traffic areas like the freeway so they can pick off cars. The reading is instant and can be done at close to a mile, so often you won't see them until its too late. The laser should get checked daily to make sure the distance function is accurate. If not done, it could be off a little and thus skew the speed reading. They also get checked annually to get certified. If someone wants to press their speeding ticket, a request for the annual certification would be handy as well as asking the officer if he was certified and whether he did his daily calibration check. It could be costly to fight, but if someone was looking at a license/insurance problem, there are lawyers that are very good at making the officer and department look bad. It can cost well over $1000 to do this though.
  7. It looked to me like he hit his right hand on his left arm during his follow thru, sort of like the quarterback who hits the lineman. Maybe he jammed it or something and dislocated it or cracked his fingernail. If its anything like that he'll be gone for a while.
  8. Add me to the drawing.
  9. Also, try out www.badgerlandstriders.org. The grafiti board is a great place for advice on everything from training plans to injuries. Aurora Sports Medicine also gives free injury assessments. I've gone a few times and have been very happy with the results. I've been running on and off for about 25 years myself, with a few marathons under my belt. The first thing I do when something hurts is replace my shoes. It almost always works. I found it odd that they say replace shoes every 500 miles, but it really is about right. For example, if you run 20 miles per week, you should get new shoes every 6 months.
  10. Jamie, have you put any other details together. I'd like to firm up my summer vacations at work and want to make sure this will work for me.
  11. I've been real interested to see what happens with him this year after his up and down season last year. I would think with the market being what it is, he'll get at least a 2 year and maybe a 3 year deal. My guess was $4-5 million/yr. with incentives and a option that vests based on stats. He is the prototypical guy that can make a GM a hero or get him fired depending on if he gets the contract he wants.
  12. I'll play again. Can't guarantee I'll make many practices though as I usually work on weekends.
  13. A nice player, but he gets hurt way too much. Unless he just hates LA, he probably made a mistake in opting out. He may get more in a total package, but the yearly average will probably be less (4 yrs/$40m?). There is definitely some depth in the FA market developing, but most of them have issues that hurts value. I'm starting to hope Melvin sits out the bidding wars and grabs up someone who slips through the cracks and signs a 1 or 2 year deal. I'd hate to get stuck with Drew, Nomar, C. Lee, etc. for 4-5 years and $50-60 million.
  14. I would also probably do 2. If this is a kid friendly event I may even do 4.
  15. I can't make it either. I'm on a work trip to Des Moines and won't get back until Friday. I will get to see the AAA Cubs on Wednesday though.
  16. Sorry for not being able to make it tonight. Family duties that I didn't expect to tie me up. Good luck.
  17. Has anyone else had enough of Daron's stupid "good morning, good afternoon, good night" crap when there are 3 strikeouts in an inning? Its annoying.
  18. My 5 year old says that when they have a meeting on the mound that they are trying to "get an idea". I have a feeling that there will be many of these meetings to "get an idea" today. Not that Jackson is that bad, but Mineesota is just hot right now and we suck on the road.
  19. One option, if its possible, the best players start, with no DHs. Then the subs go in later and the replaced players (the better ones) continue playing as a DH. It would get us through the lineup faster in the early innings and potentially keep us hitting later in the game. Overall, we all want to win, but most of us want to play too. I know I suck at times, and others may feel the same way, its a matter of acknowledging your inabilities and balancing the desire to win with everybody playing.
  20. I may be running a bit late tomorrow as I have tons of work to get done before I'll be able to get away. I should make it by game time though.
  21. This is the spot where the bulpen has blown up lately, taking a 2 run game and making it 5. If Winky can get the out, maybe we can get a little boost and get the bats going. Ugh. Never mind.
  22. A quality start for DLR? I can't believe its possible, but by talking about it, I probably jinxed it.
  23. I'm working the MPD detail tonight and was told that we should expect 42,000+. Please be nice to the police and we'll be nice to you.
  24. Hopefully we don't have this same discussion Tuesday when JDLR pitches.
  25. I know Ned likes Brady in the 8th spot as he can do some things well with the bat ion front of the pitcher. He's also probably looking at giving Moeller more to hit in the 7 hole, as they might be less likely to want to face Brady with men on base.
