  1. One of the advantages the Brewers have is using their waiver claim position to grab players who teams don't have room for. The Blue Jays, like some oher teams, just added some players and as a result are going to have to 40 man pressure. Valencia is 30 years old, but cheap and can hit a little. Not a bad guy to bring in and fill out the roster. My guess is they'll just go with Perez, Herrera, etc. and try to focus on young, controllable palyers.
  2. As some of these teams add veterans in exchange for young minor leaguers, they also often have 40 man roster issues. You're starting to see it this week already with some guys being DFA'd and waived. I'd be interested more in trying to find a young guy from a contending team (like earlier this year when we claimed Hernan Perez), and seeing if we can give him some playing time. Maybe another 3rd baseman, outfielder, or pitcher would work.
  3. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Gilbert Lara 3. Kodi Medeiros 4. Clint Coulter 5. Taylor Jungman 6. Michael Reed 7. Monte Harrison 8. Jacob Gatewood 9. Trent Clark 10. Tyrone Taylor 11. Devin Williams 12. Tyler Cravy 13. Victor Roache 14. Jorge Lopez 15. Tyler Wagner 16. Nathan Kirby 17. Marcos Diplan 18. Hobbs Johnson 19. Cy Sneed 20. Blake Allemand 21. Demi Orimoloye 22. Taylor Williams 23. Carlos Leal 24. Carlos Ponce 25. Yadiel Rivera
  4. Isn't it more realistic that any trade of Garza, Lohse, or other starting pitcher from the Brewers occur in July than June? Some reporters have said that they may be in play soon, along with position players. The reality is that Cueto and Hamels, among others, may be available. If I'm looking for a starting pitcher to bolster my playoff run, I'm trying to make a move on those two guys before Lohse and Garza. Those trades will set the market, and if my team doesn't get either of them, then I see if I can get a bargain deal for somone like Lohse.
  5. So if we have a 26th man and the pitcher comes up for first time in the 3rd with 2 outs (batting 9th), the 26th man has to hit? Say he trikes out and then in the 4th inning the team gets a big rally going. Bases loaded, 2 out, 3 runs in. The 26th man is already done, having batted in the 3rd (as required?). The Brewers would then have to choose between actually batting their starting pitcher or using a different pinch hitter, correct? Also, what if the rally takes place in the first? The Brewers designate Scooter as the 26th man that day as a right hander is starting. The Brewers have 3 runs in, bases loaded, and 2 out (again he's batting 9th). The other team now brings in a lefty. The brewers then have the choice of batting Scooter against the lefty, batting the starter (and no longer being able to bat Scooter), or pinch hitting another batter (and losing both the starter and the 26th man)? There could be some interesting angles played on these things.
  6. I could see them add a couple players. Still think they'll try to grab a backup middle infielder and a RH reliever. Could see a big bat at 1B, but my gut is that they leave it alone unless one of those guys really falls off or gets hurt. Trades at this point seem to be either high-priced players or veteran backups who can add some depth. I'm sure that some of the Philly players will be on the waiver wires (i.e. Howard), if anything else just to see if someone claims the contracts. Since teams have another month or so to see what happens in the wild card race, I think you'll actually see a bunch of small trades toward the end of August. I think the Brewers even made a trade or two in September of 2011. Those guys aren't eligible for the postseason, but they could fill in for an injury, pinch run, etc. Unfortunately the Brewers have limited 40 man space at the moment for those types of deals.
  7. I bought it last year when I was out of town on business alot. I didn't even think about renewing it this year, but just found the charge on my credit card. It seems that you have to opt out after purchase or they keep charging you every year. I tried to cancel the account and found out I can't get a pro-rated refund. I just got charged $129 for 7 days of the package. Its now cancelled, but effective at the end of the season since they refuse to grant any refund of any kind if you don't cancel within 5 days of the billing. Leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Thought about trying to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Anyone have better luck canceling?
  8. I use Crackle also. It has free streaming, mostly of material that wasn't blockbuster hits, or is 10-30 years old, but there are older tv shows and they also recently started making their own stuff. For example I caught up on episodes of The Shield that weren't on Netflix.
  9. I like the way the season is going now. It needs to have a balance between zombie killing and interpersonal relationships. The show still struggles with it at times, but needs to keep some sort of balance or it gets too one dimensional. Along those lines, I hear the network is looking at a new spinoff show wi a different geographic location and characters. I think its a good idea, but thought they could go a couple ways with this and maybe 2 or 3 spinoffs would work. What about a short season that goes back to the beginning of the outbreak and focus on the CDC and ends with the current characters showing up there. It could explain things from a scientific perspective and show the original outbreak and pandemonium. I know a few movies have been made this way, but it could be done a little different. How about a season about a group of law enforcement, military, or whoever who try to fight the zombies off, eradicate them, etc. this would satisfy all the fans who want to see copious amounts of zombie killing. This would actually have the potential to evolve into a couple seasons if it worked.
  10. The problem with this team is that they are a team made up of all "good" players. If healthy, and if they play well together, they can win some games and compete most nights. That is why many picked them to win 30-40 games and be in the running for a 7-8 seed. The problem is that they don't have any go-to or "very good" players, let alone any All-star or superstar players. The way the NBA is played and officiated these days, you need 2-3 all star or better players to actually have a chance in the playoffs. Nearly every one of the Bucks 15 guys would get picked up by another team, so they belong in the NBA, but unless their young guys really develop fast (Middleton, Knight, Wolters, Giannis, Henson) their old guys get younger (Zaza, Butler, Neal) or their middle players start playing like all-stars (Sanders, Ersan) they'll win about 20 games. Many of these guys will be here next year because they generally seem to be good guys and are solid backup and roll players.
  11. I'd be OK with grabbing him and releasing Gonzalez. He can have a couple weeks to produce and if it doesn't work out we can release him when Hart comes back. We already have Bianchi and Betancourt as backups, so no real need for Gonzalez at this point.
  12. As of today, based on the 30 guys in MLB who have 250 plate appearances in CF, Gomez has the following rankings: BA - 17 at .256 OBP - 22 at .306 SLG - 9 at .462 OPS - 11 at .768 SB - T7 with 22 OWAR - 18 at 1.1 Of the 21 qualifying CF in defense: DWAR - 7th at .4 Range Factor is 13th at 2.45. So overall, he's middle the pack or higher depending on what you think is important.
  13. anyone else having issues with mlb tv? I have great a great wireless signal, but the game keeps freezing up. It improved when I swithc tot he LA broadcast, but now its doing the same thing.
  14. There's a deal some of you might find intersting today. Roof top tickets for Brewers v. Cubs for $59. http://www.livingsocial.com/deals/281366-rooftop-seat-to-a-cubs-game-beer-ballpark-food
  15. The march 11 show was different in that it appears that twice characters turned into zombies despite not being bitten. Not sure where this is going yet, but ideas I had were: 1. They already had a latent version of the virus that kicks in when the body dies. 2. The virus has mutated somehow 3. Some sort of good guys don't get it and bad guys do theory. 4. ?
  16. I'm going to be traveling alot this year. Even though I live in Milwaukee, can I still watch Brewer games on MLB via wi-fi if I'm in Chicago, Las Vegas, etc., or will I still be blacked out?
  17. Somewhat predictable story line - retired boxer, bad investments by family member / manager, corrupt promoter, rough upbringing, mafia influence. However, the acting and writing are very well done. Show is very compelling. I like it and will watch the whole season. Could see a few Emmy nominations coming out of it.
  18. I think they do a version of #2 with platoons. I don't think a hard platoon at short will work for Counsell at his age, but he could do 40-50 starts there and 10 at second. I also think they'll keep Gamel if he plays well in spring and give him a few starts at 3rd and maybe in right. He can also DH most of those 9 road interleague games. You end up with Counsel and Gamel being able to pinch hit after the 6th inning when they don't start. One is a power bat and 1 is an on-base guy.
  19. The Gallardo Silver Slugger award got me thinking about what effect the batting performance of pitchers has on the team. We all know the Brewer starting pitching was poor, but Wolf, Narveson, and Gallardo in particular were pretty good with the bat. Has anyone done a statistic analysis of the gain a pitcher provides, and in effect create a Net ERA. For example if Narveson has a 4.5 ERA but provides the equivalent of .25 runs per game, his Net ERA would be 4.25. He thus would be a better Net pitcher than one with a 4.4 era but who only provides .1 runs per game or 4.3 Net ERA. If we then did the same analysis for the whole staff and across the league, the Brewers had to actually move up a few notches in net ERA. Make sense, or am I just watching too much Fringe?
  20. If you read down a little http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/11/washburn-undecided-about-2011.html there is another article theorizing about Washburn wanting to pitch for either Milwaukee or Minnesota. Even after sitting out a year, I'd think he wouldn't be cheap and is getting old, but depending on how trades, etc. work out this winter, he might be an idea. Lots of positive and negative interesting things here though. He's friends with Roenicke, from Wisconsin, no compensation is necessary, he's a veteran, consistently average to slightly above average in AL. He's also represented by Boras, been out of league for a year, is old, probably won't be as cheap as other alternatives (Correia, Narveson, Parra, Capuano), has limited upside, etc.
  21. I don't think they reviewed the video to see if he grounded his club. The official approached him at the end of the hole to make sure he knew it was a penalty. Johnson doesn't deny grounding the club. He disputes that it was a bunker. I was watching it live and thought he grounded the club immediately and was thinking it was a violation. I'm sure lots of other people had the same reaction. It sucks for him, but he did it and that's the rule. I'm not sure really why grounding is such a problem, but I do it to help aim my shot. I know you can't do it in a bunker (I guess it could cause the ball to move on loose soil?) but not entirely sure why not. It must be of some value or golfers would never ground their club, but they always do. So thus, while maybe minimal, he gained an advantage from the maneuver and since it is against the rules, he must be penalized.
  22. The last 2 episodes were outstanding. Back to funny banter and wild exploits. Mrs. Ari was so hot my wife even said "wow" and that's asking a lot. I guess Vince in rehab wasn't outside the realm of possibility.
