  1. I have got to learn to stop getting my hopes up on Medeiros.
  2. I just don't think the Marlins are in salary shedding mode anymore. Not that they would pass on a chance to do it, but I don't think they'll discount Realmuto to dump Prado. If they trade JT it will be with the idea of getting the maximum possible return.
  3. That's one nice thing about Realmuto though. Yeah, he's a go for it move but it's not like you have nothing to show for it if you don't win this year as he's still locked up for another 2 years after this one. All of Hader, Yelich, Realmuto, Shaw, Cain, Santana, Jeffress, and your entire rotation besides Chacin are all under club control through 2020 or longer. That's a pretty nice stable setup.
  4. 10 appearances? I'm not calling for Logan's immediate release. But LOOGYs are a little bit different animal. If they're not getting it done a good 80% of the time against lefties, you don't wait around all that long waiting for it to happen. This is not calling for Hader to go to AAA after 2 bad appearances or Yelich to be benched after an 0 for 15 stretch. This is much closer to a Tommy Milone 'cut your losses and move on' situation. You don't need to be all that patient with a 33 year journeyman with a career 4.48 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. I tend to agree with Plush here, it's actually been 5 total appearances for Boone Logan coming off an extended absence. The stuff is there, his location has been a problem. Boone Logan needs a bit of low leverage work to sharpen his command up, but I don't think cutting him is a good idea at this point. This also isn't tommy milone where the guy threw like 89-90 with mediocre at best off speed stuff. Logan has decent velocity and sharp break to his slider...just has to avoid middle middle. I will agree that a bit more time on his rehab assignment would have been helpful, especially in a case like his. I'm not saying Logan needs to go now, I was more expressing disagreement with the 10 appearances suggestion. If Logan has 9 total appearances like the 2 he's had so far he is not going to be around long enough to find out how the 10th would go. Honestly, 2 or 3 more like the one he's had would probably be enough for a pink slip if he doesn't have a few good ones to mix in there. A LOOGY doesn't get 10 appearances to figure it out.
  5. That lineup is ridiculous. You could probably pull off both, but you'd have to gut your farm system like its 2010.
  6. Yeah, its definitely going to hurt just like we knew getting Yelich would. No way of getting around that without just avoiding doing it, unfortunately. However, some good things about it IMO: 1) We hang onto our top prospect and 2B of the future who the Marlins will surely be demanding. 2) We cash in high on 2 guys in Ray and Nottingham who both frankly had pretty deflated value before the season. 3) Most importantly, we are totally set at catcher through 2020, fill a major weakness and add another stud to the top of our lineup which gets even deeper. Getting Yelich was great but you could argue that OF was already a strength. Catcher isn't, but it would be now. You could argue that the farm can sustain the losses here. Burnes hurts, but we've still got Peralta, Ortiz, Medeiros, Ponce, Supak, etc. OF is getting thin, but with what we've got at the MLB level it's not a huge concern and there are still some nice OF prospects in the system. 1) Cain 2) Yelich 3) Realmuto 4) Shaw 5) Santana/Braun 6) Thames/Aguilar 7) Villar 8) Arcia
  7. Going to use the accepted Lucroy trade as a comp and work up from there, (Mejia, Chang, Armstrong, Allen), the one to the Indians, not the one to the Rangers because that also included Jeffress. Nottingham seems like a natural inclusion to this deal, but he doesn't carry the value that Mejia did so you'll have to top that elsewhere. So Burnes is the headliner, probably as good or better than Mejia was at the time. So you've got Burnes and Nottingham so far. I think you need to top the Lucroy deal as Realmuto is younger and more controlled than Lucroy was at the time. So you need a strong 3rd piece, and here I'd say with his resurgence, Corey Ray fits the bill. My preference would be to include Phillips or Grisham instead, my gut tells me the Marlins would prefer Ray. My final piece is Jean Carmona -- an attractive enough inclusion to interest the Marlins as a strong lottery ticket, while also being far enough away to make the Brewers comfortable including him. So the deal looks like Burnes, Ray, Nottingham, and Carmona for Realmuto. Thoughts, too little, too much?
  8. I don't want to get too far off course but I can see the merit in this. Realmuto is really great and plays a position of need. Importantly, he's not a rental. Unfortunately he will be quite pricey, considerably more than Machado IMO. There is absolutely no way Realmuto comes here without a headliner of Hiura or Burnes. You'd do very well to only give up one and not both.

  10. Right on all. I wouldn't have a problem with Williams going down for a bit. All I was saying was this -- look, we all know leadoff walks are bad. I called Peralta out for it yesterday and Williams for it today. But truth of the matter is, if Logan does his job, like Jeffress has bailing out baserunners for others many times, no one even remembers it. 60% of the time, you are still going to get out of that. He does his job neither time, so both times the blame goes back to Williams for allowing a single baserunner to reach 1st? Uh, no. Also, sometimes context matters. Williams was brought in in the 7th and quickly retired 2 batters, one by K. Then he faces a very good hitter in Dozier, gets ahead 0-2 and ends up losing him. Sucks, yeah. Happens, yeah. Overall, Williams pitched well today. So Logan comes in for the lefty, throws a wild pitch to advance the runner and quickly walks the next one on 5 pitches. Gets a groundout, and then gets yet another crack at a lefty and gives up an absolute laser off the wall for the go-ahead and insurance run. And that sequence is on Williams? No, that's crap and a pretty clear indication of a strong bias.
  11. Yeah, put it all the feet of the guy who gave up the leadoff walk. Not the guy who gave up multiple damage after that with 2 walks and a laser off the wall and can't do the one and only thing he was signed to do. Makes sense. I criticized Williams in the GT for the leadoff walk, its obviously not good but to essentially put it all on him because the guy who came in for him couldn't get an out lefty/lefty is laughable. Well then. I guess you're laughing at a 40% probability because that's what happens when you walk the leadoff hitter in major league baseball. That's about as sure a thing as you get in baseball from an offensive standpoint as nothing comes easy. You're right, downright laughable. Once again. I am not excusing Williams. But for you to put it all on him by saying "he essentially cost us 2 games", thereby totally excusing the guy who came in and gave up all kind of damage after leading to the actual runs, yes, it's completely laughable.
  13. I agree and agreed in the game thread that there were certainly better options available than Logan. With that said, kind of the whole point of a LOOGY is to have a guy you can bring in at anytime, in any situation and get a lefty or two out. If you have to say "That's too high of a leverage situation to use our LOOGY," well, then he's not really a LOOGY.
  14. Yeah, they've been using Logan for his intended purpose. He's just not getting it done.
  15. If they want to DFA Logan I wish they would just go ahead and use his spot to select Nick Ramirez. I know they are skeptical but all the guy does is get betters out, his numbers as a reliever are just insane. Plus you can still have your LOOGY because the guy is just murder against lefties. Then you can also carry an extra bench bat without sacrificing your bullpen depth. If it doesn't work out, so be it, but at least you'll know. There's nothing to lose giving him a shot over someone with Logan's career numbers.
  16. This is why I was concerned about forcing open a spot for Logan. We made our pen worse by doing so. We already had plenty of lefties. Logan needs a very short leash and one more outing like today and he's got to go. Literally the only reason he was signed was to get lefties out. He is worthless to us if he can't do that.
  17. Who would have thought that a near 34 year old pitcher with respective career ERAs and WHIPs around 4.50 and 1.50 wouldn't be working out so well?
  18. The part I don’t understand is to put him into these tied games late almost feels like waiving the white flag. I get that you can’t use the same relievers everyday, but the odds seem really high Logan is going to get hit around in these situations. Agreed. If you want to give him a couple weeks to see if he can settle in, I guess I can understand it, but when you've got Knebel available, you've got Albers available, there's no way Logan should be seeing high leverage situations unless it's the 15th inning and you've got no other choice.
  19. Again, why is Logan on a team full of relievers much better than him?
  20. Logan is garbage. I always thought a LOOGY was supposed to be good at, you know, retiring lefties. Our pen was just fine before he came back.
  21. Williams, I love ya, you're going to be a great reliever but leadoff walks, man. We got burned last time you did this. Come on.
  22. Pretty much the way I feel. If you feel that Machado can put you in the World Series and you're comfortable offering something like Woodruff + Erceg + Phillips + Supak, go ahead and make the offer and see what happens. If nothing, so be it, just move on and don't get involved in a bidding war.
