  1. Personally I couldn't care less if he sneaks back into AAA or not. If he does great. If not, won't be missed.
  2. Not to mention a really inconsistent balls/strikes umpire. I think its probably indicative that Counsell is trying to turn up the high leverage situations for William's up a notch.
  3. You literally said a week ago that you were ready for a new manager. And I wasn't ridiculing him at all. Just was pointing out that it's not typically his style to ride a starter this late in the game and I was surprised, that was all.
  4. Why is our 5th best catcher still the second one on the team?
  5. I'll ask for a 7th. Counsell will tell you no as he tells all the starters. He told you yes. I'm stunned! Although I wouldn't be surprised to see him randomly pull him after 2 out like he often does.
  6. That D'Back uniform design is terrible. From any sort of distance from behind it just appears that they are sweating profusely.
  7. I think you are right, I went back and looked at the frame-by-frame and it appears that it hit the outside webbing of the catchers mitt which clearly folds inward upon contact with the bat. This umpire is kind of a doofus.
  8. I'll ask for a 7th. Counsell will tell you no as he tells all the starters.
  9. Counsell's arguments with umpires seem to consist of the following dialogue. CC: That didn't look the right call to me. Ump: Well, it was. CC: Oh, okay. Sorry to bother you.
  10. Can they please eject the toolbox who bellows "Swing!" on literally every single pitch to Brewer hitters?
  11. https://www.draysbay.com/2017/1/5/14177084/mlb-trade-rumors-rays-chris-archer-houston-astros Here was that rejected trade I was referring to. Ray's turned down Martes (#29), Tucker (#50), and Paulino (#70), plus two other prospects. (All rankings at the time of the offer). Good luck getting a better offer than that, Tampa.
  12. I can't tell if you are totally joking, half serious hoping, or dead serious. But he had a nice night last night. I still agree with you that he's the best option of those currently on the roster to play 2nd (and contrary to popular belief his defense is not that bad). Why he was totally benched for mediocre players on a team that regularly rotates guys in and out remains a mystery to me.
  13. Can't remember where but I was discussing Dozier fairly extensively with Louis in another thread.
  14. Well he's at .681 at this point, so even .800 would be terrific. Also, it's a "bad" .681 because of the parks he's played in, because he's a below average defender at every position he plays, because it's fair to expect much more offense from his positions, and because OPS undervalues OBP and he has a dramatic split in favor of SLG in his OPS. Santana and Villar are both ~50 points higher in OBP despite having a very similar OPS. Also the 'bad luck' story on Braun is kind of overblown. Yes, he's technically been unlucky but to a greater extent I think people look for any reason to look for hope in his performance. Among regular players, Pina, Shaw, Thames, Aguilar, and Yelich have all been 'unluckier.' https://www.brewcrewball.com/2018/5/10/17326218/the-milwaukee-brewers-offense-probably-isnt-this-bad
  15. But that's the thing. There were rumors, but no one really knows what Tampa was asking for Archer in spring, and what they are willing to accept for him now, if anything. At this point, I wouldn't think about dealing Peralta or Burnes for him, but if Tampa called asked for a package headlined by a guy like Ponce or Supak and some A or A+ ball pitchers, I'd listen. Pre-2017 the Ray's turned down a very lucrative package from the Astros which included 3 top 100 prospects, 2 of which I believe were in the top 50. If that didn't meet their asking price then its tough to imagine they'll bite the bullet now and sell him at a big discount. Much more likely they'll wait and hope he recovers value by the deadline or next offseason.
  16. I've seen the Goldschmidt comparisons a few times and its frankly just not a very good one. First and foremost Goldschmidt is 30, Braun is 34. While it would be possible to have an age related decline at 30 it's far far more likely at 34. Secondly Goldschmidt's recent seasons have been far far better than Braun's. Even though Braun had good seasons in 2015 and 2016 Goldschmidt still blew those out of the water with seasons that Braun hasn't been at the level at in 6 years. Thirdly Goldschmidt is at least still reaching base 34% of the time and is amazingly on pace for over 3 WAR while Braun is playing at below replacement level. All that said, I have little doubt Braun will be better than this -- he is not THIS bad. Still, I think people need to significantly lower their expectations of Braun. People still see a franchise star when the reality is that his ceiling is probably at this point in his career much more that of an average corner outfielder who will carry the team offensively at times and also have terrible slumps at other times like right now.
  17. I'm less worried about his availability and more worried that he just isn't going to be very good going forward. I'd take 100 games out of him if he raked, 130 games isn't going to do us much good if it comes with a .290 OBP.
  18. If the plan was just to get Sogard going for a week or two in the minors before bringing him right back up, it is not going well. .118. In Colorado Springs. Yeesh.
  19. What a train wreck these next couple of years might be with Braun... Every time I think of the 2016 August trade deadline, I think of the Kenny Rogers song "The Gambler."
  20. I'm sure Kershaw and Scherzer would make dominant relievers as you said. The problem is the same argument doesn't necessarily work in reverse. We always compare Hader to the best of the best as a possible starter. The reality is probably less than that. I guess I'm not sure what you're saying about his effectiveness vs. RHP. Surely no one is arguing that he's a LOOGY. It's all about his effectiveness as a starter vs. as a reliever.
  21. No. He's a younger and right handed hitting Sogard. He's fine in a utility role as a replacement for Sogard. But no you don't want him starting more than once a week max.
  22. None of these guys were trying to figure it out near the top of the order though. It sure wouldn't kill them to drop him to 5th or 6th in the order when he's in for the time being. He's been a fixture at #3 for so many years you wonder if Counsell is hesitant because he feels like he would be slighting him. Anyone else would have been dropped in the order by now.
  23. Counsell more or less confirmed that Peralta will be making his next start for the Brewers, not the Sky Sox.
  24. Sogard hitting a buck twenty five for the Sky Sox. I thought they basically just start you at .300 in Colorado Springs and add a tick for every hit after that.
