  1. Giants won, we can move into a tie for the WC on September 20th with a win!
  2. I doubt he comes back good as new right away. The best we can hope for is he gets to play enough in 2018 to work out the kinks for 2019. I think we can hope for better than that. If he gets his velocity back he could be ok by the end of the season. It's hard for me to imagine best case scenario with pitchers. I think they need to anticipate and prepare for a rotation without Jimmy Nelson for all of 2018. Obviously if it works out better, great.
  3. I know it would be a MAJOR accomplishment for this team to make ANY postseason, but It'd be hard for me to get excited about them being the WC. A one game playoff essentially, where if you lose, it's like you weren't even in the postseason. I want the division so bad. I get what you're saying but I'd be thrilled with the WC game even if they lose it. Would be awesome to win it, obviously. I think all the pressure really would be on Arizona especially being a 1 game playoff.
  4. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2017/04/11/milwaukee-brewers-operating-income-jumps-in-2016.amp.html&ved=0ahUKEwj6xJGfpbTWAhWmxYMKHeiJC4wQFgggMAE&usg=AFQjCNGy8bYxKMHif9bdVuQqag_k0PV96w&ampcf=1 That's the link I was referring to. The estimates are from Forbes. It's obviously a lot of guesstimation and projection but bases on the numbers my wildest guess in an average year as to the breakeven payroll number where Mark A. neither makes nor loses money is about $120M. Now of course I don't expect him to want to break even, no one should. It's still a business after all. How much should he want to make off his investment, well that probably varies from year to year based on circumstances. But he has some flexibility.
  5. The Rockies actually just swept the padres the most recent series, they have not been losing much. We really needed to win these first 2 games, as we are highly likely to lose today. Unknown Wilkerson pitching against Brault, who has owned us both on the mound and at the plate this season. I'm expecting a very annoying result tonight, so I'm hoping cubs/rockies can lose so we keep pace. Actually, I think it's entirely possible we finally get to Brault today and Wilkerson goes 6 strong innings today. You never know with these relatively unknown guys making their starting debut, sometimes the lack of familiarity, scouting, etc. can be enough. Maybe not likely, but possible. But you are right, we really needed to take the first 2. Every loss is crucial at this point but we've got to at least have the very winnable matchups. Also just to point out, the Rockies did not sweep the Padres, they won 2 out of 3 and have lost 4 out of their last 6. So depending on how you look at it he's kind of right.
  6. Down to 1!
  7. Gerardo freaking Parra.
  8. Giants up 3-2. C'mon SF. Need at least one piece of help for once tonight.
  9. Has a late inning, close game sac bunt worked out positively once for us this season? Like, at all? Maybe there is an example, but I sure can't think of one.
  10. I think the Giants have Cueto going tonight. Hopefully he's on his game.
  11. There's why I absolutely hate the sac bunt in front of a guy who strikes out all the time . I get it, I'm not saying it's just a horrible call, but when you've got a 30% K guy at the plate, man on 3rd 1 out can become man on 3rd 2 out really quickly.
  12. Can get within a game of the Rockies if we hang on and the Giants win...then it starts to get pretty real again...
  13. Might as well have been 3 Gilbert Lara's up for the Rays, Wade Davis just disposed of them like they were nothing.
  14. He's no Knebel, but the acquisition of Swarzak has been a huge one.
  15. I get what you're saying. I'm sure ideally you'd like to save your best arms especially with the Cubs series up next . But at this point in the season any game in front of you that you can win you have to go for it.
  16. Hader should not be 'off limits.' This is a 1 run game in late September in a pennant race . Do whatever you need to to finish this with a W and worry about tomorrow tomorrow.
  17. Would prefer in the future if they use folks to conduct the replays in New York who aren't legally blind.
  18. Of course the legendary Mike Montgomery just dealing so far vs the Rays.
  19. 100% agreed! This is a playoff push CC! Every game, every inning, ever runner on 1B matters, life or death... Stupid move playing a no defense catcher based on which side of the plate he hits from. Yep. It's not quite as crazy as starting an aging Mark Kotsay in CF in the NLCS, but it's still not smart. Counsell seems to love Vogt, but I'm not really sure why. He already has a good catcher that needs to play as much as possible without wearing him out. Vogt according to both Baseball reference and Fangraphs is a -.6 WAR player. He is quite literally a worse player than an average AAA replacement catcher, by definition. Like I said, he's done a few nice things for us since coming over. But there's a reason the A's were totally fine with just dumping him for free.
  20. No he had a terrible slump I believe early in September. I do think the Vogt claim made sense at the time, but he's gotten more playing time than I would have hoped for. He's been useful enough for us but the honeymoon period is basically over. His bat is okay but not good enough to justify his defensive shortcomings. I just hate watching him behind the plate. Anyone fast who reaches is an automatic double. It's frustrating. Even if Pina had a bad bat, which he doesn't, the gap between him and Vogt defensively is so large that there's no way it should ever turn into any kind of platoon.
  21. I really like Travis Shaw, he was a great acquisition and I hope he's here a long time. But he hasn't done much to rid himself of his Red Sox reputation as a first half player.
  22. Surprised they haven't announced anything yet unless they're just trying to keep it close to the vest, but everything points to Wilkerson getting the ball tomorrow.
  23. The answer to this question is obviously no, but I could see a vast portion of Cardinal fans in the final series rooting for losses against us if we are still in the division race. As much as they hate us, they hate the Cubs much more. I could see many of their fans preferring to see us win the division over the Cubs than for them to win two meaningless games at the end of the season. That won't extend to their team, unfortunately. But it probably won't be as hostile of a crowd as it usually is at Busch.
