  1. Just dumb. You had your shot there, a long ball gets you within 6-4. You've got a loaded bench and you take a shot with Bandy who is barely an upgrade from a pitcher. Just a nonsensical move by Counsell. Might as well have just left Davies in to bunt.
  2. Ok, I have no problem taking a shot here. You need runs now and you've got two on. But you've got Walker on your bench. Why Bandy??
  3. At this point in the season you worry about winning the game in front of you and worry about tomorrow tomorrow. Obviously if it becomes 12-1 then yeah it's a throwaway game but if your offense is clicking and make it 6-3 here or whatever for instance, you do what you can to win today. There are more than enough arms available in the pen and more available a phone call away. Woodruff going tomorrow also doesn't really have anything to do with it as he is as capable of going deep into games as anyone else on this staff and just because he had a clunker last time doesn't change that.
  4. Can't wait for some posters to start posting about how he sucks and "to get the bum out of there." He doesn't suck, he was due for one of these, but we arent in a position with a very small handful of games left where we afford to just ride it out with him today if he doesn't have it.
  5. Gameday shows every pitch in the bottom of the 1st called correctly. That inning is on Davies, not the umpire.
  6. Davies looks awful with everything. Haven't seen this Davies in a long time. Not a good time for it.
  7. I loved his demeanor after retiring the side and striking out two in his MLB debut. Like it was no big deal.
  8. Yeah my mistake, I was thinking the 25 for some reason. That still doesn't explain how Wilkerson is eligible just from designating Rivera when Wilkerson was not on the 40. He was in the organization prior to September 1st. Players must be on the 40-man roster, the 60-day disabled list or the bereavement/family medical emergency list as of midnight ET on Aug. 31 to be eligible for their respective clubs' postseason rosters. Clubs can petition the Commissioner's Office to add any player that was not on the 40-man roster as of Aug. 31 -- provided the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing a player who has spent at least 60 days on the 60-day disabled list Wilkerson for Rivera does not meet either criteria.
  9. Yeah my mistake, I was thinking the 25 for some reason. That still doesn't explain how Wilkerson is eligible just from designating Rivera when Wilkerson was not on the 40.
  10. In no way is the slump all Braun's fault but he's been a big part of it. This is the time of the year you'd hope for a guy like that to be carrying you and unfortunately it's been the opposite. We just don't have any star power in this lineup anymore like we did 6 or 7 years ago. It's been a big contributor to this slump.
  11. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/postseason-eligibility Nothing about this indicates to me that DFA'ing Rivera and replacing him with Wilkerson somehow makes Wilkerson postseason eligible. Rivera wasn't even postseason eligible.
  12. Wouldn't you have to think this means there is another move coming?
  13. Since someone asked, if there were a 3 way tie with the Brewers, Cubs and Cardinals (none making it as a WC), I believe the Brewers would have first choice of designation, since they currently own the season series against both the Cubs and Cardinals and will likely have to continue this to make this a reality. In 3 way tie, Club A hosts Club B, and then the winner hosts Club C. The Brewers would likely elect to be Club C, even though that would mean going on the road, but they would only have to win one tiebreaker game instead of two.
  14. No, we didnt, we had a historically bad month of April and never did anything exciting. What metric are you using to show Kansas City is a smaller market than Milwaukee? Media market size, total market GDP both have Milwaukee as the smallest in baseball. A top 10 payroll is 160 million+. No the Brewers cannot pay that much. Local TV contracts are continuing to grow revenue gaps. The Brewers are in a significant hole to half of baseball before anyone even sells one hot dog, parking pass, or ticket. Sure with the current structure, the Brewers can make a run, but large market teams are getting more efficient. I didn't consider Milwaukee the smallest by either metric, because #1, the Brewers aren't really a Milwaukee team, they're a Wisconsin team. I will never understand why people use the small amount of people in Wisconsin as a measuring stick for their market when their base clearly extends well outside of Milwaukee. Using the GDP of Milwaukee itself as a measuring stick for the Brewer marker just doesn't make much sense. Yes, the TV market can't compete with the big boys, but they actually have a larger TV contract than the Royals who I was obviously referring to before. And $160M is likely pushing too much, but I would guess they could easily double their current payroll without operating in the red. They had a beginning 2015 payroll of $104M and turned a $27M profit that year despite a drop in attendance and a 90 loss season. They had a $60M payroll last year and essentially matched that in income. Look, I understand it's a competitive advantage to have more money to spend, I'm not denying that. I just hate using it as an excuse for being content with smaller accomplishments, there ARE small markets winning the World Series. The 0-6 system allows for control of young talent through prime years. The competitive balance lottery exists to try to move the bar back toward the middle. 27% of MLB income is shared to also help smaller markets. We have to be smarter, but there are ways.
  15. Not true, we're not at a massive disadvantage. Maybe we were in the past, but our owner and attendance can and has supported a top 10 MLB and 9 figure payroll in a given year. Consistently, we can probably sustain a middle of the pack payroll. No, we're never going to spend like the Dodgers or Yankees, but our owner can and will spend money. We're just not right now because it didn't fit our plan coming into this year. Yes, more money is an advantage, but it's still a very poor excuse to consider finishing in the top third of the league one year to be a massive accomplishment. The Cleveland Indians just rattled off their 22nd consecutive win and have the 17th highest payroll in baseball. The smallest market in baseball won the World Series in 2015, and the A's and Twins have 14 playoff appearances between them this century. Let's stop using not having Dodger or Yankee or Cub money as a crutch and excuse for celebrating lesser accomplishments.
  16. I can't believe how easy the Cubs' second half schedule has been. Was it really thst hard in the first half? Man, the Mets really suck.
  17. Yes..they should. Qualifying for the playoffs in baseball is no small feat. And I don't know how you make a distinction between when to fly a WC flag. If one year they go one and done and the next they lose in 7 in the NLCS do you only hang one for the second year? It's a small thing and probably mostly inconsequential long term, but you don't get a lot of chances to hang banners or make the playoffs. Certainly not when you were expected to be closer to 90 losses than 90 wins. I'm going to have to disagree with you here. I'm not trying to downplay what it would mean for us to make the playoffs this year, because no doubt for THIS team given pre-season expectations, it would be a huge accomplishment. With that said, looking at the bigger scope....33.3% of teams make the playoffs, so just an average franchise averages playoffs one out of every 3 years in this era. Is it diluted as much as the NBA and NHL, no. Is it much 'less' of an accomplishment than it was in the early 90s and prior, yes. The NFL is probably the closest comparable (37.5% of teams to the playoffs). I guess correct me if I'm wrong but I can't imagine there are any indicators hanging up at Lambeau of the 2009 and 2015 Wild Card teams, for example. To me, part of it is simply getting out of that old Brewers mentality of 'we're just happy be to here', and goes along a bit with the overcelebration of the 1982 team.
  18. Jaso would definitely have blown off a series in August '69 to attend Woodstock.
  19. There was nothing wrong with him trying to steal 3rd there, especially with 1 out and Glasnow totally ignoring him. If he just runs he takes 3rd standing up. The problem was him trying to take it like a hesitant timid 6th grader playing little league ball.
  20. Wow Sogard, first time trying to steal a base? Nice jump...
  21. So how far are they going to go with this home team/away team at Miller Park? I assume we'll be batting in the top of the inning. Voice inflection for lineup introductions in favor of the Marlins? Sitting in the visitor's clubhouse? Excited animations on the scoreboard for when we strike out or the Marlins make a good play? Could be some level of hilarity here.
  22. I'm good with the division flags. The WC flag is a bit much. What if they win the second Wild Card, then lose the play-in game? Does the Wild Card 2017 banner still hang proud next to the 2008 one? Yeesh.
