  1. Hopefully he will handle it better than he did last time. I don't see Stearns adding the 'If you want to' at the end of his requesting him to move to the pen like he got the benefit of last time.
  2. Might as well ride Drake for 4 innings tonight. Or see what Jesus Aguilar can do on the mound.
  3. Yep, it's not been a good day. Likely looking at 3.5 back in the division and 4 in the WC at days end.
  4. The CBA only allows a team to reduce a player's salary by a maximum of 10% year over year, so the minimum the Brewers could pay Walker on an extension is $15.5M next year, $14M the year after. They will have to release him in order to bring him back on a reasonable salary. That doesn't seem right. I've heard of such a rule for arbitration but it makes no sense for free agency. Matt Cain has a $20M contract for 2017 and will be a FA after the season, are you claiming no team could offer him less than $18M next year? He won't find a job if that's the case. I've heard this claim in the past and it makes no sense to me for that very reason, there will be guys every year coming off massive contracts who can't find work because they're no longer worth a fraction of their former selves in free agency.
  5. Tomorrow's headline: Brewers awarded Nicasio on waivers, DFA Torres
  6. I mean, deep down, is anyone really THAT surprised?
  7. Look, Garza is a lightning rod for criticism. That kind of comes with the territory of expectations when you sign a rather lucrative FA contract (in historical perspective) with the Brewers. It doesn't help when you complain and moan after a terrible year and leave your teammates and go home. Fans aren't going to like that. Fans aren't going to like it when you're tweeting about what others should and shouldn't do regarding abstinence and birth control. So yes, I get that it can be unfair at times, but I can also understand why he gets the flack he does.
  8. This team is such a tease. Every time they start to get a little something going and look like they're going to start making a run for the playoffs, they go and take 2 steps back again.
  9. I don't like to criticize Shaw much because he's pretty much been our best player but he needs to step up and start playing better. Definitely not a good day for him either offensively or defensively so far.
  10. Nobody actually said that, in fact nobody in this thread defended Garza the pitcher. The 3rd inning included an error by Shaw, the ump missing two strikes leading to a walk, a bobbled ball by Arcia, a very poor decision to try to turn 2 by Walker, a bad throw to the plate by Thames. It also included Garza fumbling a come backer and the catcher missing a throw he easily could have caught. Garza is not really to blame for 3 runs that inning, maybe 1 is on him. Trying to blame the 3rd on Garza is what another poster called hate and I get it, people dislike him so much that he gets no benefit of the doubt at all. I would gladly see them cut ties with Garza. I don't think they will because we have him next year and the team needs depth. He is not a good pitcher at all, but the 3rd inning isn't a reason why he is a bad pitcher, it was bad defense all over the infield. "Matt Garza gave up a single and a walk...his team decided to give up three runs" That is not defending Garza the pitcher or saying it's on his team?
  11. I definitely still think the WC is our most likely way in. Only gotta catch 1 team out of 2, both with tough schedules instead of 1 our of 1 with an easy one. Also not totally sold on the legitimacy of either WC team compared to the Cubs Of course that would set us up with L.A. if we even win our play-in game, but we've played them tough.
  12. 7 walks and we're not even through 4. Hard to believe these 2 bums account for 25% of our payroll.
  13. 5 walks in 3 and a third for Garza and people want to say it's on his teammates. Unreal.
  14. Garza is crap. No, the 3rd was not all his fault but spin it all you want and make as many excuses for him as you want. If letting him have these last 2 August starts instead of Woodruff costs us just one game, it may be the one game that costs us a playoff shot.
  15. Just atrocious infield defense all-around this inning.
  16. When we acquired Walker I said my only real concern is that Villar will simply rot on the bench. That is exactly what has happened. I understand that a premium needs to be put on winning right now, but it's kind of too bad that we won't have the opportunity the rest of the year to find out if he's going to turn it around and see if he is part of our future or not. He was showing signs of a rebound, too.
  17. Nicasio was placed on outright waivers today, meaning that whoever claims him simply gets him for free just by paying his remaining salary. These are non -revocable type waivers, so the Pirates cannot pull him back if claimed. NL teams will get the first crack. I doubt he makes it past the Cardinals. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/08/pirates-place-juan-nicasio-on-outright-waivers.html?fv-home=true&post-id=101551
  18. Take that? Do you think anyone here is disappointed about the result? Heck, I'll own it, I thought one win in LA would have been fine, didn't think they had much of a chance to win the series, but I'm thrilled to be wrong about it. Winning 5-4 road trip out West is a success.
  19. And now get ready for all those runs we missed out on earlier to come back to bite us.
  20. 3-0 is nice, but we've left quite a few more runs out there today. Hope it doesn't come back to bite us.
  21. Rewind it, I could swear Perez looks back at the dugout and mouths 'Wow.'
  22. Broxton has a ton of natural power. It looked like he got well under that one and just missed a HR at the wall. I know his cold streaks are tough to take and I'm not opposed to trading him in the winter for the right offer. But he's someone I'm kind of terrified will go somewhere else and hit 40 HR.
  23. Seriously Sedar. What the hell were you thinking? As good as 3-0 looks, Eddie needlessly took a 4th run off the board.
  24. Nelson should have been red lighted all the way on 3-2. It's not like he's going to do anything with it if he makes contact anyway and there would have been 1st and 2nd with the top of the order coming up it it gets called that way.
