  1. Braun is hitting. 214? Felt like he had started the season a little hotter than that.
  2. Even on a play where he couldn't quite get there, you can see what kind of range Broxton can cover in CF.
  3. It's 669 for me. They're beating the Celtics right now with their B squad.
  4. I just don't know if we have room for him as an outfielder, especially as one who won't likely be good defensively. I think it's 2nd or bust for Villar. You could stick him at SS and his bat would play very well there, but it'd be tough to hide his glove. Isan Diaz is probably the future at 2nd, but not until at least 2019.
  5. Got one, sucks to strand the runner on 2nd with no one out, though.
  6. Villar has some nice pop. I can see a 20 HR season as a possibility .
  7. Watching now. If you've been giving that all game, you better give it there.
  8. I'm just watching on Gameday, but according to it he's giving a ton of room off the corners today.
  9. It's great seeing Santana and Broxton get it done. It's huge if these two end up being breakout players.
  10. If Barnes and Knebel continue to perform like they have the first week, they'll easily top 70 wins. Villar may make 30 errors and fan 200 times and that will be hard to overcome though. Why is it that its too early to tell on everyone, 8 games into the season, small sample size, nothing to worry about with guys like Perez and his .154 OBP, but for Villar all the small samples matter?
  11. He's not overpaid right now, but there's a good chance he will be on the back end of his contract. The remainder on his deal is probably roughly about market for what he would get as a free agent right now. Thus the reason he went unclaimed on waivers last August and typical assumptions about us getting anything of value for him require us either eating a substantial chunk of his remaining salary or taking back a player with some decent salary.
  12. Even if Feliz did get excited, which he didn't, baseball players are the most sensitive sallys on the planet about showing any joy.
  13. The fact that the Padres are a bad rebuilding club with no chance to contend in the West and zero need for a 19M a year 33 year old veteran outfielder.
  14. Good question. Did Feliz show a little excitement after striking him out or something? Not whatsoever. Took a few steps toward first then circled back toward the mound.
  15. Yes and no. They are measuring pitch speed differently this year, it's now measured at its fastest point, rather than where it was about 5 feet from the pitcher. So pitch speeds have been inflated a bit, but 101 is still humming.
  16. For the most part the corners seem to be a lot more uniform than in past years, with like you guys said much tighter corners than in years past. The top and bottom of the strike zone still seem to be called rather subjectively to me.
  17. I saw some video recently of Greg Maddux pitching and was lol'ing at some of the calls he'd get. I didn't realize how wide the zones were, especially for him. Even at the time people complained how wide they are. I think umpires do a pretty good job behind home plate. Usually my frustrations come when they're not consistent throughout a game. I know accurate pitchers can expand corners but the inconsistency is what drives me nuts. I agree with this, but it seems kind of funny to me that this is the expectation. The strike zone isn't supposed to be subjective, with each ump calling it a different way. Seems to me we should be expecting them to call it right, not just call it consistent.
