  1. franklin is out of options. rivera--currently optioned--will burn his final option this year if he spends more than 20 days optioned to the minor leagues. unless you count ryan cordell (who is getting some action at third base), there are no other optioned infielders on the 40-man roster. this is indeed a lack of infield depth. It may be a lack of depth, but I'm fairly certain they can find a no hit utility infielder somewhere if they need to. Heck, Counsell could come out of retirement. They're not contending anyways and it's not like they'll be unable to field a team. Exactly. What does it matter right now? The DeJesus, Franklin, Rivera types are a dime a dozen. If you don't have one on your 40, won't take much paperwork or time on the phone to get one.
  2. You literally assume every possible good outcome for Braun and every possible bad outcome for Puig. Sorry, to me, that's homerism. I'm just telling you what the projections are. I know they're not perfect, but they're not a group of drunk dudes in a basement watching baseball who hate Braun and love Puig, either. There's science, precedent, and reasoning that goes into these. Time will tell who is right on this.
  3. And 100% rightfully so. The Brewers should be one of the stingiest teams in baseball at starting arby clocks. Why on earth would anyone here ever want to waste a full year on a piece of the future in a year where contending is a fantasy. That kind of shortsightedness is ridiculously out of place in a small market. This is nothing new either. Can't believe this still has to be debated. If we really have David Price on our hands, I would expect Mark A to open his wallet accordingly. Since I doubt that is the case, get the kids up and start playing them. Nothing I hate more in baseball than the clock watching BS teams play. If we really have David Price, Andrew Miller, or Chris Sale on our hands, we really have no idea at this point. Every team does the clock thing. Sorry, but you're talking about potentially 10s of millions difference and an extra year of control. For a small market, that 6 years of control that the CBA allows you is gold that you have to protect. Wasting one of those years when A) You're not going to win anyway, and B) Your guy isn't ready, is potentially very detrimental.

That kind of shortsightedness is ridiculously out of place in a small market. This is nothing new either. Can't believe this still has to be debated. For the most part, I agree. It's business, and smart business. It's been years, but I thought that a move like sticking JJ Hardy back in AAA just long enough to screw him out of a year of free agency took it a little too far.
  5. For someone who seemingly cares only about the present and winning games in the current season, it's very odd to see you pine for Scooter Gennett as though he's some key, win now player. You're line of reasoning is really, really hard to read every day coming here. Not really. He likes guys that don't strike out much and put the ball in play a lot regardless of how well they actually hit. So, the opposite of Khris Davis?
  6. Obviously a bad throw by Villar, but Thames should have been able to knock that down, too. Now it's probably over, this team continues to shoot themselves in the foot.
  7. I can't help but think, 'You lucky SOB' every time they run one of those lawyer commercials with the few smiling healthy looking people who ran into a few hundred grand for getting hurt.
  8. Too much, but better than it is now, maybe like a 50/50 split. You're not going to be able to keep them out, but I would certainly hope that in a Brewer/Cub playoff series, the organization and fans would be actively doing everything they could to ensure that as many Brewer fans as possible are at Miller Park for the home games.
  9. While this can't continue, that last K was not on him. That ball was at least 3-4 inches off the plate. I'm beating a dead horse here, but I wish they would just turn the damn strike zone over to the machines already. They have the technology for it, but for some reason MLB gets a warm fuzzy from seeing middle aged men subjectively make a judgement call on each and every pitch. That strike 3 from Torres was outside too.
  10. Captain K is 2nd on the team in K's despite being 10th in ABs. 8 Ks in 13 ABs, yikes. Didn't look a good call on that one though.
  11. Damn, just missed it. We are owed some luck bloop hits like that right now .
  12. Still gotta pull him now, I think. He's at 92 pitches and his spot is due up.
  13. I have to wonder how much that C flap affects the vision coming in of Villar and Broxton. Not that its still not worth hsving of course.
  14. What is that for Santana this year, 1 for 20? Ouch.
  15. Yeah, he'll get a deal just like every other pitcher his age. One that you know will be a bad one on the back end, but you still have to do it if you want the guy. I know the Cubs have a lot of arms in their system but for the most part all the good ones are at the lower levels.
  16. When Arrieta is on he does that to a lot of teams. Very smart pitcher who exposes a hitter's weakness and has a lot of movement on his pitches. Will be interested to see where he ends up in 2018. Likely the Yankees or Dodgers I'm thinking. Still can't see Chicago letting him walk. They can pay him. But he's more or less said there won't be a hometown discount.
  17. That's the issue with Davies. If he isn't getting that call like the 3rd strike to Arrietta, he isn't going to win many games. Going to be a big problem with him then having a higher strike zone this season.
  18. It's a really nice day out and I'm about to leave work. Won't be wasting the rest of my day on this.
  19. There can't be a worse '#2' pitcher in MLB than Zach Davies.
  20. Aren't you better off there turning 2 and conceding the run? I'm not watching so I don't know if it was an option or not. Uek made it sound like a comebacker right to Zach which presumably could have been a double play ball.
  21. Do they even carry Cubs games anymore? That was the only worthwhile reason to even have that channel back in the day.
