  1. I'm not a big fan of targeting individual positions at this point anyway. Just take the best prospects we can get. Whether it's pitching, catcher, or shortstop, I don't really care. Just concentrate on adding the best players.
  2. I don't think we are necessarily looking just at low level guys. I think Stearns likes to focus on these areas because it's easier to get top potential talent when they're this far away and less projectable, plus they would be starting to come into the league around when we project to be competitive again. But Stearns @Co. have said they want to accumulate talent at all levels. If the right deal presents itself for an AAA stud, I'm sure they won't hesitate.
  3. I disagree regardless, but Guerra isn't proven so not even close. It seems crazy, but I never would have thought a rental of Chapman would be worth more than Lucroy, which he was. It doesn't matter what should be worth what, it just matters what the market says. I think the market has told us that Lucroy alone is worth far less than we thought.
  4. How can you say that without knowing the return? Agreed. I love Davies and would prefer to keep him, but let's not oversell him. We're not talking about a future ace here.
  5. Agreed. No prospect is a sure thing. Gallo would be an outstanding return. People worry too much about the strikeouts. Jim Thome had damn near a 1.000 career OPS and struck out a ton. Strikeouts do not keep someone from being a really good player. If a guy leads the league in strikeouts but has a .950 OPS, are you going to play him? Yes. Every day.
  6. Not me. I'm just not a big Nelson guy. I think he's peaked and he doesn't have a ton of control left. But I can understand why people would prefer to sell Guerra now who could flame back out.
  7. Which is absolutely totally fine. I'd prefer not to deal Davies, but I'd consider it for the right offer. I'd deal Nelson first and Guerra second.
  8. OK now I'm getting excited. Please don't let us be let down ...
  9. I really don't think that you do. Stearns cannot just demand an asking price if he doesn't have a suitor willing to meet that asking price. Do you really think Stearns wouldn't love to add the best guys possible? Do you think he's telling teams to take 3 guys of their choice off the table and then they can discuss the rest? If the deal also includes Jeffress, then yes, he HAS to demand Gallo as a PART of it. Remember, all reports are to trade Jeffress, he MUST get a major piece in return. What if Brinson, Tate, Ortiz, and Mendez were included? Gallo is not the only major piece in the Ranger system. And Stearns cannot demand anything. He can request anything he wants, but if he doesn't have a buyer, he can't sell. He can either take what he is offered now or try again in the offseason or next deadline, but there's no guarantees.

  11. I don't know how many times they had to be told that Travis D'Arnaud was not an acceptable centerpiece.
  12. Elmore is hardly a guy who can afford to waste it when he gets on base.
  13. Ortiz is a long-term investment, not a short-term one, so unless something in his medical indicates a red flag of a possible long-term issue, I don't think a minor injury concern would be a deal breaker. We had a trade in place for Wheeler at this time last year, who as far as I know still hasn't even resumed his career as of right now.
  14. Conversations have been ongoing since the winter meetings... teams pretty much know how others value their players by now. If either side has a strong will to get it done, it'll get done. And figuring out if said player will or will not veto said trade. Well that won't be an issue with Texas
  15. The only team I could think of would be Atlanta; since they're the worst team they would have waiver priority on Lucroy, so technically Lucroy could be easily dealt to Atlanta in August after the deadline. You wouldn't think there would be much urgency on their part, but maybe they would rather do a waiver deal now rather than wait until after the season when they'd have competition.
  16. If they boo him, it'll be impossible to tell.
  17. This isn't a hard thought. Package a pitcher get fair value. It certainly is when many people have said Stearns is not looking at packaging players. It's July 31st. If the Rangers come to us and want Lucroy if we're interested in including Jeffress or Smith, we're listening.
  18. The important thing is that we still have significant pieces that could improve a team out there from playoff contender to World Series contender. Lucroy, Jeffress, Smith, Guerra, etc, would tremendously improve the odds of any contender. The desire to 'go for it' is strong, and some teams may be looking to make a response move to what their rivals have already done. Think the contenders in the AL don't want to add some talent after seeing the Indians get Miller?
  19. Funny that the Brewer game is like the least exciting thing about the Brewers going on today. Especially with Garza on the hill.
  20. It's going to be an intriguing next 24 hours. I will say it will be massively disappointing if our only midseason trade is Aaron Hill.
  21. I really don't understand how people can say this when the no-trade clause was PART of that contract. He is honoring the contract. Not honoring it would be something like refusing to play when we exercise his cheap team option.
  22. We get it, Hoynes. It wasn't even THAT big of a return. He's acting like they were giving up 3 top 50 guys to make this happen.
  23. I have a hard time believing the Brewers will do better in the offseason. Less control, no urgency of an imminent pennant race, and several FA options available.
  24. Exactly. How much value did Gomez lose last year after the Mets nixed the trade? Lucroy still has a ton of ability to help a contending team in the playoffs, which is what really matters. If some team wants to pay that price, great. If not, so be it. An AL trade to one of Cleveland's rivals would be more satisfying at this point, but the Dodgers may be more likely.
