  1. I wouldn't say it's not the point. Villar has been caught stealing at 3rd only twice this season and four times in his entire career. He has an 82% success rate stealing 3rd this year and 85% for his career. So obviously he has a pretty good idea of when he can and can't make it. Obviously I don't want him just doing it every time, but when the situation warrants, sure. If he can keep the risk at that minimal 15-18%, I have no issue. A guy in scoring position doesn't guarantee a score with every basehit. There's still an added advantage of a man at 3rd. I don't think throwing him a permanent stop sign at 2nd is the answer.
  2. Wilkins looks like we may as well have let Zach Davies be our last man off the bench.
  3. How many times has he been thrown out in that exact situation? I know he's attempted to swipe 3rd with 2 out but I don't know what his rate is taking 3rd with 2 out.
  4. Uh-oh. The Cardinals aren't going to like Nelson showing emotion after getting out of that 6th.
  5. Hey, there's another walk to the pitcher. That's your thing now, Jimmy.
  6. Was anyone doubtful for one second that walking Wacha would come back to haunt Nelson?
  7. Good grief. How many pitchers has Jimmy walked this year, 3?
  8. Scott Boras is very unhappy about this, calls it a disrespectful move that isn't generally done just to buy an extra bench spot for a few days.
  9. In case anyone was still wondering, Garza is worth nothing. Actually, nothing would imply we could give him away for free. He has very negative value.
  10. I kind of hope the NL loses because of bad Cub performances, the Cubs make the World Series, and lose in the 9th inning of Game 7 in a clutch situation in front of a roaring hostile crowd. That would be fantastic.
  11. For what? It's not like we have a 2nd half pennant chase to worry about. If we're showcasing him for a trade I think the ASG would be a good platform.
  12. I have no idea how the 1st base ump said Middlebrooks didn't go around. That was horrible. 4 strIke K. And that there is why I hate the sac bunt on this team, because we simply don't have a lineup that executes well with RISP.
  13. Brewer fans will do their part. It may come down to the rest of the country. Are they going to vote for the most deserving, or anybody but Braun simply out of spite?
  14. I've got no problem with Gonzalez making it. Those road splits aren't terrible and although he clearly benefits from Coors, it's not unusual for a player to have better home splits. A .927 OPS and 18 HR still seems deserving. Braun is another issue and I agree he's a snub. Still have a chance to get him in in the final vote.
  15. For what it's worth, Counsell took the blame completely for the lineup mistake, said he was playing around with different lineups and must have turned the wrong one in. I don't know how that excuses the bench coach from double checking before it'd turned in, but at least it didn't cost them a win. Hopefully they will both be more careful in the future.
  16. I think that's on (bench coach) Pat Murphy, though I don't know if Counsell will throw him under the bus or not. Counsell has never hit Lucroy and Braun 3rd and 4th this year and didn't question it when Braun came up so I doubt he changed things around today. Somebody copied it down wrong and mixed it up, I think. Would probably be Murphy. Either way I agree, it just can't happen.
  17. I think Lucroy is definitely gone and I'm not concerned that the saga has dragged on this long. I would guess that the vast majority of deals come in the last week of July so it's not at all unusual for things to still be in the preliminary stages in early July when teams are still trying to get an idea of where they are at. If we can't get an acceptable return this month I doubt we'll get it in the offseason when he'll be a 1 year rental and not part of any 2016 pennant race.
  18. Either nobody was watching that 9th inning or we've all seen it enough times to know it's a tease.
  19. 70 win pace halfway through the season. Pretty much right on target. Of course, assuming we're unloading Lucroy + other top trade chips this month, that will be a tough pace to keep.
  20. Just enough game in now before the rain for us to lose.
