Again though to me it's not about the day off today. I do get that. It's about the bigger picture of the pattern of becoming a part-time player who really lacks durability in the last 2 years.

Not that the 2 runs have been all his fault but Samardzija doesn't seem to have his best stuff today. Not yet anyway.

Lucroy is one of those cult hero guys around the league. He's not extremely well known so he's loved by the ones who do.

Exactly. Ok, so it's a bad day for him to play today. That doesn't change the fact that between injuries and a suspension, he's played a total of 86 games since the start of 2013. I'm concerned that he's a 100-120 game a year player going forward in his career, which is not what you're looking for from a franchise player.

Braun has also destroyed Samardzija in his career, so it's a surprise. Questioning Braun's durability is not being angry about everything. It's been a growing concern -- he's the biggest investment in franchise history, he's still the face of this franchise, and we certainly need him to be more than a part-time player in the coming years to be successful.

Why would that matter, if his oblique isn't bothering him? Or at least be able to wait one more day until Gomez returns?

Supposedly, no. So we're at the point in his career where he can only play 3 games in a row without a day off?

Gomez has 1 more game to serve. Braun's day off can't wait 1 more day?

You'd rather Herrera be out there than you, Rickie? I'm not trying to understate the difficulty of outfield defense, but how many balls are likely to come your way out in RF over 1 game anyway? 3, 4? Chances are you won't even have an opportunity to have to make a difficult play. If you do, it's not like Herrera is a gold glover out there either.

Maybe they are waiting for waiting for his Super 2 eligibility date to pass. I'm not sure that's a big concern with Morris, but if he breaks out in a couple years, it could be. If Morris is still hitting righties well in a month and Overbay is still here, I'm really going to start to question the FO on Overbay. He's OPS'ing .588, he's 37, and he's limited to 1st base. He's one of the most head scratching roster spots in all of MLB.

Escobar was the must have in the Greinke deal. Cain wasn't even close to him. -
For me I think its less about the merit of Francisco and more about Overbay just being a total waste of a roster spot. I'd be fine with Morris instead once we're past the point of Super 2 concern. Its hard for me to want Overbay gone because he seems like a real decent guy. But from a baseball standpoint, looking at him logically, he wouldn't make another 25 man roster in the entire league if he was cut tomorrow. He isn't a good lefty bat off the bench. He can't play anywhere besides 1st. He doesn't have upside. His glove is fine, but that only helps us if our other option is inferior. Reynold's glove is just fine to justify being in there every day. We don't need a backup at 1st. Not that defense at 1st isn't valuable, but its arguably the easiest position to cover in an emergency. Lucroy, Maldonado, and probably others can play it in a pinch if Reynolds needs a day or two off. Juan is at least a good lefty power bat which is already more than Overbay. Maybe he's a bad clubhouse guy, I don't really know. I'm just saying Overbay has absolutely no value. I'm frankly a little surprised he's still here especially with the short bench at times.

Also, the "they'll pick it up" theory applies to our competition too, not just us. St. Louis is 25th in runs and OPS. Do you think that's going to keep up? -
If we can't rough up Wandy a little bit we have a serious problem on offense.

I want to be excited about Weeks' recent offensive performances, but I've been watching him play the game for too long. He'll get hot for awhile and get everyone excited and then he'll go into a such a funk that he looks lost during every AB. It's the way his entire career has gone.

Do you really think we went from 20th or so in overall talent last year to top 3, just like that? Just by adding Garza? Thornburg is good, Davis is okay, and Will Smith was a nice acquisition. I can't overstate the historical fallacy of declaring a division race over less than a quarter into the season. "I think we will win the division" and "This is going to be over by the end of April" are two way different things. I think it's about 50/50 that we make the playoffs right now as of this very moment. That's a lot better than I figured before the season, so I'll take it. There's nothing wrong with being optimistic, but it's not particularly credible when you twist every possible scenario in favor of the Brewers (their bats will come around, they can do more offensively than this), and completely ignore the flip side (guys like K-Rod, Duke, and Smith are pitching over their heads, and most of the rotation is likely to face a bit of a dropoff by season's end). Could we win the division? Sure, it could happen. Will we be in 1st every day from now until the end of the season? I tend to doubt it. St. Louis, unfortunately, is much much better than you are giving them credit for. They did not go from NL Champs to middling .500 team in the last year. They will go on a run at some point. It's not if, but when, and we'll have to ride that out to keep our lead. This is still a fairly loaded division. Don't let the early season records fool you. Anyone besides the Cubs could go on a run and get back in it at some point. -
Weeks shouldn't have been able to be "looked back". He should know the situation and be breaking for home as soon as he sees the ball on the ground. A throw to home is fine, we are counting on it. Then his job becomes to stay in the rundown and at least give us 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Maybe even 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 3rd if he can stay in it long enough. That's a lot better than just staying put and watching as they turn 2.
