  1. I expected us to come back down to earth, just that the manner in which we have has been pretty frustrating. I didn't expect us to win the division and I don't today.
  2. He also said that was the first time in his entire tenure here with us that the contact play has backfired on us. So I'm not sure he's actually caught the end of all our games.
  3. So within the span of 1 week: - Our manager "assumes" that someone is warming in the bullpen and is forced to put in a cold reliever. We go on to give up 3 runs and lose the game. - Our aggressive style comes back to bite as we essentially forfeit a run when Gomez tries to go from 1st to 3rd with 2 outs and nullifies Braun's run. We go on to lose 2-1. - We have a runner on 3rd with 1 out in a walkout situation. We send in a AAAA pinch runner on 3rd for one of our best players. He sprints for the plate on a looping line drive out to SS. We lose in extras. Is it really a wonder why most experts believe our fast start was just that and we're now headed back to the pack? We're giving games away left and right. We're not losing games, we're giving them away. The tongue-in-cheek theme of this thread is ironic.
  4. Wow, that's a gift. I don't know anything about this guy but he can't be worse than Bianchi. Let's see how it goes.
  5. How does a pinch-runner come into the game and not know how many outs there are? I swear, if they lose this game, so much dumb fundamental crap that is costing them games.
  6. I understand the tongue-in-cheek point of this thread, but I think it's a little silly to imply that blowing a couple games on a complete managerial brain fart and poor fundamental baserunning over the course of a week is not that big of a deal.
  7. I'd be upset that we brought the infield in and a routine groundball became a double, but if it's back, they score on that grounder and it's 3-1 either way. So it really didn't make a difference on the score.
  8. Any reason Smith couldn't have thrown pickoff throws to 3rd until he was good and warm? Or just walked a guy (which would have been practical in that situation anyway) and then thrown pickoff moves to 1st to get warm?
  9. I was wondering the same. Considering how quick Gonzalez was to challenge every detail about Roenicke's screwed up pitching change, you would think Roenicke would at least take a moment to broach the subject with the umpires. If for no other reason than to try and save a little face, so to speak. I don't think Roenicke knows how to save face. He's never retaliated against another manager in his career.
  10. Also, guys like Jean Segura and Aramis Ramirez are decent players. They don't give you top 3 talent. And unless you are referring to a trade I don't know about in which we acquired Chris Davis, players like Khris Davis are a dime a dozen.
  11. You literally named all guys that were on last year's team. So are you saying the 74-88 Brewers of 2013 had top 3 talent?
  12. This is straight delusion. Who exactly on the roster this year compared to last makes that much of a difference that they jumped from middle-bottom of the pack talent to top 3?
  13. I'm counting on Braun being a 100-120 game player the rest of his career. I wish we had signed he first contract with him and only the first one.
  14. It also depends on your position and the guy you're replacing. Since Reynolds is a good defensive first baseman, Overbay really has no value as a 1st base only replacement, especially considering his D is only "average" and he can't hit a lick. Bianchi probably has more value because of his positions, but you have to at least be able to outhit your pitching staff, or you are useless as a pinch-hitter. I'm not saying it's easy, just the easiest. Any player playing a position he doesn't usually play isn't easy. But you can plug in Lucroy or Maldonado at 1st for a day or 2 if it's needed. You probably won't get great defense, but you can get by. You certainly couldn't do that with them at SS or CF.
  15. "Tough matchup for Schafer". In other words, a Major League Baseball pitcher.
  16. Yes. Every single team in MLB has just as many useless players as the Milwaukee Brewers. No team has 25 players all of whom are comfortably above replacement level. We threw away over 1150 plate appearances on Yuni and McGehee in 2011 and still managed to win 96 games. Betancourt and McGehee, though bad starters, OPS'ed well over the .543 and .318 currently carried by Overbay and Bianchi. It's also apples to oranges because you're talking about a player who is exclusively a first baseman, arguably the easiest position to fill in a pinch. I bet you cannot find a single first base only bench player in MLB who is OPS'ing as low as Overbay with even close to the same amount of AB's.
  17. I'd hate to think Segura was dogging it down the line. There's no excuse for him not beating that out.
  18. Why would anyone trade us anything of value at all for Wang? It's a wasted roster spot for anyone who acquires him so the only ones who would likely be interested are the ones who have nothing to play for this year. Most of those teams could have had Wang themselves in the Rule 5 months ago if they really wanted him. He surely hasn't done anything to raise his trade value since then.
  19. So Wang can come pitch in a 1 run game yesterday, but a 5 run blowout requires you to burn Thornburg and Will Smith. You are truly a genius in your own time, Roenicke.
  20. Does Narron work with these guys on pop-up techniques? I cannot imagine a team being this skilled at popping up the ball without putting some serious time and effort into it.
  21. You know a surefire sign that you're a really bad hitter? When the opposing pitcher won't even put one pitch in the strike zone against Khris Davis because you're on deck.
  22. I am just not sure it's worth it anymore. I would guess there is maybe a 10% chance of Wang living up to the "mid first round pick" status that some people are putting on him. I would guess the chance is at least 50% that he never pitches at the MLB level after this season. Everyone is afraid of losing out on the next Johan Santana, but for every one of those, you get 10 Enrique Cruz's and Jeff Bennett's.
  23. Wouldn't it be nice to have Juan Francisco to PH in that opportunity and not have your options be Lyle Overbay, Jeff Bianchi, Logan Schafer, and Elian Herrera? The horrible bench that they built is hurting us every day. And they did it willingly, letting better options go.
