  1. According to Rock and BA they were never looking at whether he got a foot in.
  2. They need to close this "loophole" of managers being able to essentially imply "I don't want to have to use a challenge on this, but it would be great if you could look at this."
  3. I like the LaRoche idea, just not giving up Weeks for him, unless Washington is eating the salary and we have a plan to use it for bench depth elsewhere. Like Weeks or not he is by far our best bench player right now and with this move we get deeper at 1st for sure but are left with just Fulu or Herrera as a backup at 2B.
  4. If it ends up being the UCL, this is the last we'll see of him til 2016.
  5. I am a little worried that they will have the mentality that "We don't need to change anything, we are in 1st". Hoping not as that would be a mistaken train of thought on their part. Your competition is constantly looking for ways to improve and you'll have to do the same to stay at the top.
  6. Surprised how close they would have been to getting Gomez on that one. I think a good throw might have had him.
  7. Braun has such high standard. I mean he is batting over .310 and has 33 RBI's which is close to leading the team (even after missing 14 games)and it still seems like everyone thinks he is not having a good year. I look at OPS a lot more than conventional statistics, I don't pay much attention to batting average and hardly any to RBI, but you're right, over the course of the year he's still sitting pretty close to his career norms at .895 right now.
  8. Braun had 2 multi-hit games, and 2 0-fers. You can look at game logs and see what players have actually done. Before today he was hitting .280 and slugging .440 in the month. I did. Sub .300 OBP and .736 OPS. Which will surely be much worse on both accounts after today. Certainly not a good June by Braun's standards.
  9. Save for one game, Braun has looked pretty bad in June and could probably use a day off again. Unfortunately any OF'ers beyond our 3 starters are so bad that it makes it tough to do.
  10. Since we decided for whatever reason that Overbay was a better keeper than Francisco, I doubt that there is a good long-term solution out there for us right now. Take what you can get for a reasonable upgrade for 2014 to help us play October baseball this year and then re-evaluate the position in the offseason.
  11. I will never understand why a professional pitcher cannot make a routine pitch and catch throw to a base.
  12. To me, that's the key. I'd have certainly taken him as a FA, but not for Thornburg or even Fiers.
  13. Ike has 4 HR this year hitting .248 with a .722 OPS and at least from what we've seen today, questionable D. As said, we didn't miss out on much here.
  14. If the White Sox are willing to eat maybe half of his remaining prorated salary for this year, how does Estrada for Adam Dunn look for both sides? The White Sox need pitching help in general, but specifically at the bottom of their rotation. They could either plug Estrada there or use him out of the pen. Dunn gives us a power lefty and big OBP guy who is a huge upgrade from Overbay. Nelson also moves into the rotation. We get better at first and better in the rotation with this move. Just a thought.
  15. Wang knows his situation and needs to do a lot better job selling an injury there.
  16. Okay, how many good heaters will it take to send Wang to the DL til September? Dial it up, Wang.
  17. It seemed inexplicable a month ago, but Thornburg is a pretty strong candidate right now to head down to Nashville for the summer after Henderson or Gorzelanny return.
  18. Francisco, 10 HR, 26 RBI, .943 OPS, 1.4 WAR Overbay, .592 OPS, -0.5 WAR The "gritty veteran" Overbay has been worth 2 wins less than Francisco so far, as far as WAR goes. If they had made the right decision in the first place and just kept the better player instead of overthinking it for the sake of defense, we wouldn't be talking about this problem so much.
  19. My friend is sitting about two rows away and said he heard it hit the pole. Yep, I have a friend even with first base and he said he could hear the clunk off the pole even where he is. Edit: If he could hear it there they may have heard it in the dugout, or I'm sure some of the position players heard it. You would think that something that was audible in the dugout certainly would have been able to be heard on the broadcast.
  20. It doesn't matter to me if it hit the pole or not. It's still A) the crew's job to look at a game-changing HR call that is that close down the line, and B) Roenicke's job not to sit on his rear on such a close play and just take the umpire's word for it. At least come out and ask them to take a closer look. Nothing to lose by asking.
