  1. Yeah, but it doesn't matter in that situation. At best, you've got the bases empty and 1 run in. At worst, you've got 1st and 2nd and still just 1 out. That's better than a runner on 3rd and 2 out. For a team that loves to be so aggressive and historically likes the contact play from 3rd, we dropped the ball there.
  2. I can't see the game, but how does Weeks not score on that double play? First and 3rd with nobody out, Weeks needs to be running home on the grounder. That way you either score or you avoid the double play. So what happened?
  3. Sorry Rickie, that's incorrect! We were looking for, "Sure skip, whatever I can do to help the team win."
  4. If only there was something that Roenicke could have done in the 1st inning today to prevent one of those Yankee runs from scoring.
  5. Weeks has about the sneakiest .302 average you'll ever see. No power anymore, though.
  6. God forbid we not proactively try to give away an out when it looks like we might have a big inning. THANK you Schafer!
  7. I hate homeplate umpires that change their zone based on the count (bigger zone on 3-0 counts, smaller zone on 0-2 counts.)
  8. We are really not adjusting to the approach that MLB pitchers take with us at all. It's nothing but hack, hack, hack. Starting pitchers going 7-8 innings on us is going to become commonplace.
  9. When you choose to bat Lyle Overbay in the cleanup spot, you pretty much deserve to get the offensive struggles that we have been getting.
  10. That's certainly true, but you know that there's 9 innings to go, and having a challenge left LATE could loom LARGE by comparison. I'm pretty certain that even if you don't have a challenge left late, the crew can look at a call on their own initiative. (7th or later isn't it?) Either way, no excuse not to challenge that call in the 1st.
  11. I just can't fathom why we wouldn't challenge. It would have removed a run from scoring position and possibly saved this game. This whole "we need to be 100% sure in case we need to challenge a play later" mentality is just stupid. Games can swing in the first inning. If you're 95% sure, challenge the damn thing.
  12. Just a stupid, stupid, no-challenge and it's going to lead to a big inning.
  13. "Buying" implies that you have something that you can use to spend. Maybe we can scrape enough together for some bench help, but I don't see much else. Nelson is the only one in the system that probably has substantial value, and I think they're smart enough not to part with him for a rental.
  14. I said this exact same thing to you 2 weeks ago and you said the race would be basically wrapped up at the end of April.
  15. Some turds smell better than others. But their both still turds. Well, the turd in Toronto is 11 years younger than our turd and is hitting .311 with 5 HR's in just 17 games and OPS'ing 1.062. That would look pretty good in a lineup that is struggling to score runs. Our turd is 37 years old, is strictly limited to 1st, has no future, and is OPS'ing .647. I'm surprised that most are downplaying this so much. This could end up being a really, really bad move, especially to keep a guy that we had absolutely no reason to keep.
  16. I kind of agree simply because Yost was so entertaining even when we were not good. If the cameras panned to him in the dugout, you were pretty much guaranteed to get a shot of him either grabbing his breasts or baring his teeth. Not to mention his post-game press conferences were hilarious. Not that he meant for them to be.
  17. And Overbay makes me eat my words on his first AB. Nice clutch hit.
  18. Again, Reynolds should not be benched against righties. He is your best power hitter on a team struggling to score runs. He can hit righties, he has his whole career. Overbay is getting far too much playing time for a 37 year old who was lucky just to make the team.
  19. I would be willing to bet that if Yost had the 6th ranked bullpen and Roenicke the 25th, Yost would look a lot smarter and Roenicke less so. Roenicke didn't become a bullpen genius, I still remember him talking about how Loe is "our 8th inning guy". He just has better options now. With that said, I give him a lot of credit for going to K-Rod as his closer off the bat this year. It would have been easy and excusable to say "Henderson did the job well last year, he's our closer til proven otherwise". And that might have saved us losses by now.
  20. I guess for some reason, I just find the general old school attitude towards bunting to be really annoying. I don't mean that towards people that think it can be a good thing. I think that it's more of a matter of opinion than anything else. What I mean is the fact that after a successful sac bunt, you are guaranteed to see cameras panning toward the dugout and the player receiving more high 5's than if he had just went yard. Congratulations, you just did something that accomplishes very little (besides a squeeze) and is successfully done 7 out of 10 times. I think it's against the unwritten rules to not high 5 a player after he does something that qualifies under the old school definition of "fundamentals".
  21. It also creates the disadvantage of working with 1 out instead of 0 out, thus why the situations are almost equal in the odds of scoring a run. I agree that we should be mixing up the strategy a little bit, at the very least. Our bunting situations have gone way beyond predictable.
  22. I addressed this in the original post. I also disagree with the strategy of lowering your expected runs in that situation to increase your odds of scoring one run by a mere 3.7%. If you are at home and it's a walkoff, obviously 1 run is as good as 4. So that's different. On the road, it's still a slim margin with no insurance. Even K-Rod will blow one sooner or later.
