  1. Small sample size, but I haven't seen anything from Segura at the MLB level that makes me think he won't stick at shortstop.
  2. They have 5 starters who will all, barring injury, start basically the same number of games. Aside from lining them up at the beginning of the season, I don't see how an imaginary hierarchy makes any difference
  3. Nothing like mis-managing a blowout game by burning through 5 pitchers when you claim the pen is already overworked.
  4. I laughed when Brian and Bill wondered aloud earlier if they were going to pitch around Lalli to get to Yo. Why would they?

  6. ERA's: Axford - 24.30 Badenhop - 7.36 Gonzalez - 11.57 Gallardo - 6.61 Fiers - 10.80 2012 Bullpen ranking: 26th 2013 Bullpen ranking 30th 2008 total pitching (with Baltimore) : 29th 2009 total pitching (with Baltimore) : 30th Can somebody tell me how this guy still has a job? Outside of a couple good months last year by some new young pitchers that the rest of the league had never seen? And please don't say he hasn't been given any talent to work with. Part of the team promotion last year included multiple ads of our bullpen basically saying that we had the best back two in the bullpen in baseball and leads after the 7th inning were almost a foregone conclusion.
  7. This team is just not good. Right now, they are probably one of the 3 or 4 worst teams in the NL.
  8. You're not. I don't have the numbers in front of me right now, but I know he's been pretty considerably worse in his career in clutch situations vs. his averages.
  9. Is there a less clutch player in MLB than Weeks? Also, I would love to see Molina get a fastball to the ribs tomorrow, but considering how gutless Roenicke is, I don't see that happening.
  10. He won't cost us a penny in baseball terms until 2016 and he can't be a free agent until 2019. I like Segura a LOT -- huge fan. But he's still got a small sample size of great success and frankly it's a little more than anyone expected at this point. Let's see if he is the kind of star that you build a team around before we worry about locking him up for 2019 and beyond.
  11. His opening day starter in 2010 was Jeff Suppan. Not sure how anyone could have expected that team to top 80 wins.
  12. I don't think Axford is going to right the ship. He just isn't the same anymore.
  13. Augie, there is not a magic "combination" in the bullpen that's going to right the ship there. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. As an aside on that, how does Jerry freaking Augustine continue to have a job with the organization every year?
  14. Axford is really, really bad.
  15. I'd advise Axford not to frivolously spend a dime of the $5 million he's making this year. It will be the one and only big payday he sees in his career.
  16. Agreed with the last post. Its not like there are a bunch of quality first basemen on the scrap heap available better than what we have. At this point we are just trying to tread water til Hart returns, nothing more. Until then we are going to have a big hole at 1st no matter what we do, just how it is right now. Deficiencies like this get a lot of attention when we're playing this badly, but we're 1-5 because of poor pitching, not our lack of options at 1B.
  17. Yuni is more of just a convenience scapegoat, and he's certainly not someone you want starting ideally, but he is not at all the reason we are 1-5. It's pitching, pitching, pitching. We are losing because our pitching has been atrocious. Plain and simple. When opponents are OPS'ing .918 off your pitching staff, it's not going to make a difference if you've got your A, B, or C lineup in, you're not going to win consistently.
  18. The problem with Ax is that Roenicke and Melvin are still living in their own fantasy world in which they think Axford is still an elite closer going through a tough stretch. He had a negative WAR and a 4.67 ERA last year. This isn't completely unforeseen right now, he was very bad last year. He is, in all likelihood, a flash in the pan 2 year wonder, at this point. It happens. A lot. But they are still trying to force it.
  19. "Our pitching hasn't been that good so far." Props to Davey N. for figuring that one out all by himself. Why are they asking the bullpen coach about Mike Fiers? He more or less said, "That's Kranny's problem".
  20. Craig and Dave need to host a postgame show called "Craig N' Davey's Cliches and Excuses".
  21. Why was Rick Kranitz brought back this year? Does he have any redeeming value whatsoever? His pitching staff was 2nd worst in MLB in 2008 and worst in MLB in 2009 in Baltimore. I know it's a little early to be scapegoating guys, but I'm not sure he belonged back in the first place.
