    I don't think it's a consideration (and I hate the Giants and their hypocritical fans). If Prince had tested positive near the end of last year, and writers had tried to say that Braun's season was tainted because of it, I'd have been pretty outraged.

    Simply as a devil's advocate question (because I do 100% agree and stand by the move), I wonder if you asked Doug right now if he could take back the Greinke trade, what he would say. Segura has been a great addition, though. Not saying he has Greinke's value, but even a non-MLB ready Segura is a lot better to watch than Izturis was.

    Shame on you, Eddie. If you're going to send a guy from third with nobody out, he better be able to walk to home plate. Could end up being very, very costly.

    Fiers - Starting to taper off a little bit, but still the most established over the long haul this year. Probably most comparable to Shaun Marcum, and could have a nice career as a middle of the rotation guy. Peralta - Small sample size, but the highest upside on the staff, possible top of the rotation starter. Rogers - I think I might be most excited about him because he was all but left for dead. Now healthy since 2010...remember, he was a top 5 overall draft pick. There's still a chance for him to show why, 8 years later. Thornburg - Never really got a chance to show his potential as a starter, but it isn't for lack of upside. Will likely compete for rotation spot in spring training in 2013. I almost feel like Estrada deserves mentioning here as well, as he certainly has the numbers to be in the discussion this year, but given his age and career, he seems more like a journeyman pitcher developing into a very serviceable rotation option rather than a big part of the future. Either way, the future of the pitching staff looks really bright. It's been a long time coming, but finally, all the emphasis on pitching in the farm is starting to pay off. This isn't a full list by any means, and there are guys out there like Hellweg, Nelson, Bradley, Heckathorn, and Jungmann, to name a few, who may be in the MLB discussion at some point as well.

    I think we can forget about offering Marcum a qualifying offer at this point. So we're going to lose him for nothing, but I don't want him back unless a big discount is in line.

    Couldn't they just DL Rogers? He was on the 25 roster before September, so Peralta should be eligible to take his place if they DL him as an "injury replacement".

    A 6-4 road trip means a 4-2 home stand still only gets them 84 wins. Not a very good chance 84 wins gets you even a share of the 2nd wildcard spot. Without running the numbers, I have to believe a 7-3 or better road trip is more likely than a 5-1 or better home stand. I gotta disagree with this. I think a 5-1 homestand to finish the season is very feasible, given the competition. We just finished this last homestand 5-1. I see no reason we can't sweep against either the Astros or Padres and take 2 of 3 against the other. Not guaranteeing it or anything, just thinking there's a better chance of that than 7-3 on the road against the top 2 teams in the NL and the Pirates.

    The good news is that the Reds and Nationals are pretty much assured of winning their respective divisions. The bad news is that there definitely will still be a battle for seeding going on. St. Louis' schedule is worrisome to me. They are loaded with cupcakes from here on out until the last six games. Then they get the Nationals and Reds at the perfect time when they probably won't be playing for much if anything. I'll definitely be rooting for the Dodgers today.

    I dont even know what the point of putting Hart on the 15 day would be. It doesnt free up room on the 40 man, and anyone from the 40 can be brought up freely anyway.

    Pretty disappointing game. In our position, doesn't do much good to sweep the Braves if you can't keep it going against the Mets.

    I also agree about not having Marcum on the postseason rotation, though not for the same reasons...I am less concerned with velocity as to his performance since coming back from injury. Frankly, he's just not one of our best 3 starters right now. But if we're worried about stater velocity for the playoffs, the same concerns apply to Fiers, and I think Fiers certainly needs to be a part of our playoff pitching staff in some capacity. I'm okay with Estrada being a playoff starter, I'm okay with some sort of piggyback combination of Estrada/Peralta/Marcum, whatever they think is best. Really the only thing that matters for a playoff game is to try to piece together the 9 most effective innings that you can to get you to the next game, so I don't really care how they do that.

    Thanks. To stick to the original topic, I would probably prefer doing that (DL'ing Rogers and replacing him with Peralta) than reactivating Rogers. Rogers is currently too high risk IMO to consider starting up again. We've finally got him healthy, I'm worried of the potential consequences of starting him back up again after two weeks off.

    I doubt it, but I don't think that you can just say no. We don't know anything about the difference in style between Kyles and Tunnell. We don't know if Tunnell caught something very small or mechanical that Kyles wasn't. We don't know if he may have discovered that one or two guys were tipping their pitches. We don't know if a different approach was tried. We don't know any of that. Is it quite possibly just dumb luck? Yeah, definitely, but I don't think we can say for sure. I don't personally think that we can analyze coaches the same way we do players. We know that we didn't go on a major run last year because Rickie Weeks got injured. We know that we haven't been winning since the All-Star break because we traded Zack Greinke. But coaches, I think that's something totally different. Too much behind the scenes to make a real determination IMO.

    Hypothetical question: It is my understanding that Peralta is not currently eligible for the playoff roster. However, if we were to DL Rogers, who was on the 25 man roster before September, Peralta could then be declared playoff eligible as a replacement for Rogers, correct?
