  1. Why boo Berkman? Boo Bob Davidson, I would understand that.
  2. Me too, I'm pretty certain Lucroy was on that list.
  3. I don't even really count Carlos Lee, because the deal was for other MLB talent, which at the time was pretty confounding. I agree, we haven't been trading MLB talent, we've been trading prospects, many of which would eventually be upper tier MLB talent.
  4. The so-called 2nd wild card is a joke in my opinion. It does nothing except force the actual wild card winner to have to beat a team in 1 game that they were better than over the course of 162 games to get in. That's all it is.
  5. That's one Aoki should lay out for, nothing to lose at all if he doesn't get it.
  6. Is it a little annoying to anyone else that the entire Brewers bullpen seemed completely indifferent to the fact that Ransom just hit a grand slam to give them a 4 run lead as his HR landed out there? Geez guys, I don't expect champagne parties for it, but this is a pretty big game for you and that was a pretty big moment.
  7. Nevermind what I said about Ransom before, he just totally redeemed himself.
  8. I think I dislike Cody Ransom more for giving Roenicke absolutely no reason or excuse to stop playing Izturis as I do for the lack of actual production.
  9. Morgan's fault for sure? Are we 100% confident that call didn't come from the bench?
  10. Ron and team- STOP freaking trying to steal with Braun up!! Best case scenario he makes it and then they walk Braun anyway!!
  11. I agree. You do this the right way, and you end up with a situation like the Rays are in, where they have limited payroll flexibility but are perennial contenders because of the way they built their system and have a continuously stocked farm system which allows them to continue this cycle. Meanwhile, we have a higher payroll and a poor farm system. The Brewers had the makings of this cycle, but were hampered by two things -- failure to draft good starting pitching, and impatience. When Mark A started to open his coffers, eventually the team started seeing these "windows" to win and the temptation was just too much for them to pass up, so they sacrificed the farm system and bloated the payroll down with overpaid players to give themselves a better shot within that window. In reality, the window was always there, it was just a matter of being patient and building from within, but that's what we've gotten away from since 2008. We can continue to try to tread water and "go for it" one last time in the second half, but the bottom line is that the Brewers current business model is not sustainable for the long-term without a $150M+ payroll to support it. We are already getting to the point where the roster becomes bogged down with expensive veterans, and there aren't enough cheap 0-3 players in the system of either high quality potential or quantity role players to fill in the gaps.
  12. I don't think Weeks a waste of money, I thought he was a good signing and still do. I can't be too upset about K-Rod as I was excited about it at the time. What I tire of hearing, from both the brass and fans, is the small market excuse. We have the 10th highest payroll in baseball, which is pretty remarkable. We were never going to be spending as much as the Yankees, Phillies, Red Sox, etc, and never will. Right now, the 10th highest payroll has us the 22nd best record in baseball. There are 12 teams right now doing more with less (in some cases, a lot less) -- the Pirates, Rays, D'Backs, Jays, Indians, Nationals, Orioles, Reds, Braves, Mets, Dodgers, and White Sox. There is 1 single team doing less with more -- Philly. That's not very efficient. Is the wins that a GM is able to buy with the money that he is allocated not as good of a measure of a GM as anything else? I could live with this if this had been a transitional period when we've been phasing out some vets and restocking the farm, but that's not been the case.
  13. Sure, I agree with that. You're going to get picks for him, so if someone doesn't offer you something that is a slam dunk to be worth more than those picks, there's no reason to give in.
  14. “I think, respectfully, general managers don't call when you're eight games out (in the division), six games out of a wild card. They don't call but their let their interest be known in a different way. Their scouts will talk to our scouts and say, 'We're interested in somebody.' The sin of spin. There are a total of 22 out of 30 MLB teams that are 6 GB or better from a WC spot.
  15. Gonzalez isn't back next year. We'll address shortstop one way or another I would think, but his vesting option doesn't come into play next year. Given that we're not particularly competitive right now with Greinke and Marcum, I'd have a tough time seeing us being competitive without them. And counting on adding guys like Dempster, Adams, Balfour, etc, is a pretty big leap of faith I think. All of them will probably be sought by a number of teams. Even if you assume that we sign a guy like Dempster and add Adams or Balfour to the bullpen, which would definitely require some spending, Gallardo/Dempster/Fiers/Estrada/Peralta looks like a pretty average rotation to me with a ton of question marks at the back end. I love what we've seen from Fiers, but we're still a ways away from knowing if he's a long-term #3 starter. The bullpen even with the addition and some progression would probably be average at best -- K-Rod will almost certainly not be back, so we'd add one but lose another. Just too many holes to fill IMO. We have to completely overhaul the rotation and bullpen, and have no choice but to add a shortstop in free agency as well. So even with those additions, I could see us being an average team all the way around next year, but I feel like it would take a whole lot of things going right for them to be a contender.
  16. I don't know why it's a crazy idea that we would be able to trade him and sign him in the offseason. I think most of us can agree that the following 2 scenarios are very, very likely: 1) At this point, Greinke is going to go to free agency and not sign before then. 2) When Greinke is a free agent, he is going to go to the team that makes him the best offer, like almost every other elite free agent. So if we are that team that offers him the most, I think he'd be right back here anyway, I don't think that a trade two months earlier is going to make a bit of difference. If we're not that team, we're going to lose him either way. We can say all we want about Greinke wanting to play in a quieter region, that he's different, that he loves it here, etc. We hear this every time a top Brewer player is heading to free agency. Top FA's 99 times out of 100 do not give hometown discounts when they hit free agency. Partly because the players union frowns on it, and partly because, well, they've made it here, they want the most money.
  17. ARam and TPlush for Upton? I wish. Frankly, we are a terrible fit for the D-Backs. We have a deep outfield, as do they. They have similar needs -- SS, 3B, young starting pitching. Maybe Gallardo and Ramirez gets it done if Arizona gets back in contention, but otherwise I'm sure they'd be looking for prospects. Either way, I'm not sure that trading away the one high end starting pitcher that we have guaranteed in our rotation the next few years is going to make us better. So I just don't see it. There are a lot of other teams out there that are probably better fits and can make a better offer.
  18. Must we do this with everyone? Although, I'm sure RR is already one step ahead of us here.
  19. Can't blame the offense for this, but we had a 5-3 lead with the bases loaded and nobody out in the 10th. They couldn't get more. That could come back to bite them.
  20. Gomez is a BUST. That's not to say he doesn't have value, but those who think he's still going to turn into an above average everyday centerfielder are going to be holding their breath for his entire career. Hopefully Roenicke has seen enough to keep him far away from the leadoff spot.
  21. 1st and 2nd, nobody out. This is where Roenicke is a perennial overthinker and why we often come away with nothing in these situations.
  22. I agree. However, I think the fact that we are thoroughly impressed by an umpire who "swallowed his pride and asked the homeplate umpire if he had a better look", says just how embarrassing the state of MLB umpiring is. It's a sad truth -- for most MLB umpires, salvaging their ego is more important than getting the call right. Glad to see at least with this guy, that wasn't the case.
  23. Vintage Corey Hart waving helplessly at low and away pitches.
  24. Way to beef up your trade value right before the AS break, Zack.
  25. I really doubt that some bogus ejection in the 1st inning with scouts watching is really going to have much of an affect on Greinke's trade value or way or another.
